Reliable package delivery service
Mostlylost replied to Kevin K's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
You can get a free address in Laredo, Tx from Merkalink . They handle forwarding with Estafeta and custom clearance as necessary. http://merkalink.com/index.asp -
I really hate the word RIPOFF. If the OP didn't like the price they certainly could have gone somewhere else to send a check to the USA. When you accept someones price and you get what you pay for it is not a RIPOFF. ....It is an agreement between two parties. ONLY IF you don't receive what you agree to then the word RIPOFF should be used. Handymail received a big fine a couple of years ago when Dryden was still the owner. A package went with over $10,000US. Now they follow the same procedure as everyone because they are sending the package via FedEX. If you use DHL or FedEx to

You can also use Merkalink which is owned by Estafeta. I have used them for over 10 years. Even brought in a fireplace log set..no problem. Check their webpage in English or Spanish -
Last time I drove up to see the snow (on a weekend) it was like a parade. Solid line of vehicles. Many passenger cars in the line.. I have a 4WD but never used the 4x4 function. Every vehicle made it to the top with no problem. I did go on a sunny day,and there had been no precipitation for at least a week.

New Pemex W of Ajijic doesn't accept credit cards
Mostlylost replied to geeser's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
The Pemex on the highway Chapala GDL at the libramiento will take a foteign CC but you need to go to the office to do the transaction -
Your money when paid at Oxxo, a bank, or direct to Mercadolibre goes into your Mercadopago account. When you make a purchase money is deducted from your Mercadopago account. If you pay in a bank or Oxxo the code you are given is a deposit to your account, not the merchants. The merchant does not receive the money until you receive your purchase.

Mostlylost replied to ibarra's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
Estafeta has a service the name is Merkalink. They handle customs clearance and shipping. They give you a free address in Laredo and when your package arrives there, notify you by email. I have used them for 10 years to import every thing from auto parts to gas fireplace logs with no problem. -
Zig zag up the mountain?
Mostlylost replied to TheBestSideOfTheWall's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
The name is Las Minas. They are selling houses and lots. There are very deep pockets including an ex state politician. Indians never stopped work on the project. The casino project was 1km east. -

How to Pay Telmex Bill and CFE online?
Mostlylost replied to Lakesider's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
Both Telmex and CFE will only accept a Mexican credit or debit card. -
Every consumer advice expert and story says never to use your ATM card for anything but banking transactions. Never in stores, never in restaurants etc. If an atm card is skimmed, scammed or otherwise compromised the money is taken from an account and can not be reversed easily or quickly. Use a credit card. The bank can reverse the charge and put it in contention until a decision is made. You are out nothing until an investigation is finished.

I did it at migration in Chapala, was an easy process. If you say stolen you will need a police report. I said lost and all they did was interview me for 5 minutes and then they approved the replacement.

New message on HSBC ATM at their bank
Mostlylost replied to cedros's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
You can check the rate on the Visa or Mastercard website (depending on which type of card you are using.) Your debit card will have one of those symbols. Your bank may have a 1-3% international charge, and the websites have a way to enter that into the calculation. Both Visa and MC offer an app for your smartphone. . I have always received the quoted Visa and MC rates at every ATM that I have used worldwide including HSBC on Monday the 17th in San Antonio. -
Flew out of GDL this week (July 2017) with laptop, Ipad, cellular. Absolutely the same as the past 10 years. In USA leaving on international flight to Caribbean exactly the same. Laptops and tablets need to be in a separate bin for scanning. That rule has existed for years, but was not always enforced.

FYI - electronic devices on flights to US
Mostlylost replied to bournemouth's topic in Mexico General
Flew out of GDL for USA this week (July 2017) arrived 2hrs early for an 8AM flight . (airlines have been saying 3 hours for years) . Traveled with laptop, Ipad and cellular. No problem whatsoever. In USA I went thru security to leave for international (again with all electronic) 25 minutes before boarding time no problem. Laptops and tablets need to be in a seperate tray, but that has always been the rule.. -

Tequila town - what not to miss?
Mostlylost replied to solajijic's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
We have taken many visitors to the Cuervo factory in Tequila. The have tours in English I think wvery 2 hours. Chosse the most expensive and you will have soecial tastings and a visit to the "cave" below and sample the Reserva de la Famila which is $800 or more a bottle. Twice we were the onlyones to the cave and what we consumed was equal to the ticket cost. After they have an excellant restaurant right across the street. Enjoy an hour or so in the plaxa anh visit the 2 churches. -
Think twice Mexico about getting too cozy with the Chinese
Mostlylost replied to Mainecoons's topic in Mexico General
In truth the USA probably is the most honest in honoring trade agreements Try to import a 2013 vehicla as stated in NAFTA and see what happens. -
The meter will record the watts purchased and the watts sent to the grid. On your bill they will show both and then the difference. You pay for the difference.

If you experience a problem with your phone when entering the USA .. turn the phone off and back on.... It will then connect correctly. There is a prepaid plan with Telcel that will work for sin fronteras. It was $150 for 25 days, unlimited calls and texts to USA Canada Mexico and whats app. That price was 4 months ago it might have changed.. The $199 plan will do the same thing, but you need a contract and pay monthly. To dial calls to Mexico USA Canada it is easy if the number is in your address book on the phone. Just use the usual process. I have never had a problem.

can I make calls in the US with my Mexican SIM card
Mostlylost replied to twelveoaks's topic in Mexico General
If you pay for the $150 sin fronteras pre-pay it will be unlimited in Mexico-USA-Canada for 25 days. -
You will need a credit history in Mexico. Do you have a Mexican credit card? With that you would have a history in the Mexican credit bureau http://www.burodecredito.com.mx/

Smart card = dumb idea. Switch back to regular meter and make life easy!
