  1. Farmacia Guadalajara. Super cheap and fast. Just be careful of which one you go to though. I went to the one on the carretera up from LCS and the background they used was pieces of white paper which showed up in the photo and was thus declined by the consulate. Which ever one you go to make sure the background is solid white with no shadows.

If it is the same , and it looks like it is , in Chiapas it is called tutsis in Tzeltal , it is a type of stink bug. If you touch it it stinks  but it is harmless.   Tsis in maya is to fart.. so it gives you an idea...

Good to know. A couple of days ago I had the same exact bug staring at me through our office window as I was on the computer!

  3. I'm feeling your pain Mitch. I was born in San Diego and lived there most of my life. My wife still has most of her family living there. In normal years we would have made at least 2 trips up north. I missed my 50 year college reunion at USD. We talk to them almost daily so are aware of what's happening. Stay safe and healthy and hopefully in the near future we'll be able to travel again.

  4. Following advice I saw on the forum here I checked with the post office that handles the mail for our area and low and behold there was a check waiting! We were told that we should have been notified that we had to pick up the letter, but oh well.

I'm having the same problem depositing/cashing it that others have mentioned. Has anyone found an easy way to accomplish this? Opening another account at a different bank (already have one at BBVA) is not an option. The Paypal option would maybe work if I didn't already have the check in my possession. We have an account in the states at a credit union and they do have e-deposit but the app is so bad it rarely works. Has anyone been able to cash their check at a casa de cambio? The one in Chapala said they can't but one in Guadalajara could. My last option is to send to check back to my sister-in-law in San Diego and have her deposit it in our credit union account.

The US Consulate in Guadalajara opened about 3 1/2 weeks ago. My wife and I were there on Friday. She did her 10 year B-1 visa - first everything by their website and the appointment they confirmed by E-mail was at an office several blocks away, not in the consulate, for her interview. The small office had painted on the window Austrailian Government and the sign with the American Consulate General outside stated it was temporary.

That's to renew a visa though. On the website for getting a passport and the e-mail reply I received yesterday they state that only emergency passports would be issued and they want to know what the emergency is.

I would suspect there would end up being a few smoking allowed places, that would do well because all the smokers would go there, and most of the restaurants would be smoke-free.

I would certainly hate to be the person that had to work in a smoke filled environment. I'm all for the new law.

  7. I'll probably regret this. Stopped in today and saw that they have a nice quantity of black licorice. Sorry, no Twizzlers (but that's not really licorice). They even had the Red Vines in the 16oz packages. Also Australian licorice.

This will be the 8th Home Depot in the Guadalajara metro area.  The one on Manuel Clouthier is closer than this new location. Doubt they would close any of the existing stores

The Lopez Mateos Sur corridor is the fastest growing commercial area in GDL at this time. Not getting in early would cost them a lot if they waited.

This new location makes it perfect though when going to Costco, less than 5 minutes away.

  9. Coming back from the Costco on Lopez Mateos this morning I noticed that there is a new Home Depot going in. It's located on the right side as you head south, not far from the new Galerias mall. Couldn't see when it will open but from outward appearances it should be fairly soon. I wonder if they will close the old store on Lopez Mateos just north of the periferico? Would seem strange to have 2 so close together. I'm looking forward to seeing it open as the old store was always a hassle to get in and out of.

We just got back from GDL.  Used the macro to come home from Costco.  It was clear the whole way.

Same here. Although going north on Lopez Mateos, right around where the outlet stores are, there was what looked like at least a 6 car pileup. From what we could see driving by going south there were 2 or 3 cars that had their front ends under the rear of the car in front of them. Typical going too fast, following too close, and not paying attention.

I just received my mailed check, delivered by MexPost and it did require a signature.

I just noticed a stamp on the back that says it was received in Chapala on "25 JUN". Eleven days to go another 400 meters ain't that bad, no?

What if you're not home when they try to deliver the letter? Will they keep trying or is there some where you could go to pick it up in person?

So Galerias mall is open during the week. I like the Galerias near the old Costco. When I check Google maps to see how to get there it shows another Galerias mall on Lopez Mateos in Las Tijeras. Can that be?

Yes, just opened recently. Just south of the Costco on the right side as you're going south. You can see the Liverpool store closest to Lopez Mateos.
