  1. Thanks, RickS. That's sort of what I figured. So the only guidance to offer is the proverbial question, "Do you feel lucky?" 😀
  2. In the meantime, I have a client who is buying a house and wants to bring her Lexus down here. Are there any Lexus owners around and are you able to easily get your car serviced at a Toyota dealer, or anywhere else? Are parts difficult to impossible to find? Thanks.
  3. Had to backtrack from the link, but found it. Thanks!
  4. "You can make an appointment to renew your Jalisco driver license. People with appointments go to a separate facility in Guad..." Great info. Where in Guadalajara was this "separate facility"? It wasn't indicated in your link. Thanks!
  5. Clients of mine crossed northbound at Laredo either yesterday or today, not sure, and said "90 minutes", about "normal" for them.
  6. I tend to translate "naco" to "white trash" so as not to be geographically specific. ("Patán" is a new and useful word for me, so thanks for that.) All of these phrases circle the same area. Apologies to everyone for the language detour.... ...back to lunch at La Vita Bella.
  7. Casón was the "fish of the day" at an Ajijic fonda on Friday. Not sure if the accent mark is needed but that's how waitress pronounced it. What is it casón? Thanks.
  8. I'd pay that price in a heartbeat if it came from a legitimate tree removal service and meant I never had to read any more comments in this thread.
  9. I've received emails from Telmex, phone calls, text messages to my cell phone, etc. The envelope my Telmex bill arrives in has for at least a few months talked about the "new/higher speeds becoming available". I even remember a Telmex envelope about three months ago with a pre-printed "biggest fiber optic network in the country" message. (Of course you have that Telmex. Who else would? But how big compared to what? Pffffft.) My guess: this is all an avalanche of pre-marketing to every Telmex customer throughout all of Mexico. When and if these wondrous new speeds ever arrive here at Hooterville by the Lake is anybody's guess.
  10. Galeana was done BELOW the carretera. We're talking about the first couple of blocks above the carretera.
  11. I'll second this nomination. Of course we all recommend the ones we know best/worst, but that is a bad stretch, and important since it's highly used with the sometimes-working stoplight at the carretera. Upper Revolucion is also an annual joke.
  12. YESSSSS. Never. There are a lot of spooky creeps on the internet. I'm sure Eric Blair would agree.
  13. We drove back from Barra yesterday and noticed the same. It was pleasant.
  14. Ja! I took that foto - and I mean that exact foto - today at 2:15 and sent it to a friend by WhatsApp. The internet is amazing for sharing/spreading info.
  15. CONGRATULATIONS Henry! And thank you for your very precise and descriptive post. I'm much less intimidated now.
  16. I LOVE this bit. (Yes I need to renew, yes it's already expired, yes I'm paying attention.) It makes complete sense since your name only appears on page one. They must need to know your calling history to see if you can drive. (Sarcasm alert! ) Whatever....bring the beast what it wants. Thanks, Ferret.
  17. There's one who goes on patrol in Upper Ajijic where I live, above Farmacia Guadalajara, generally during the cooler/colder nights. It sounds like a steam locomotive pulling into town. I've heard them all over Mexico, even some beach locations.

    SMOKE HOUSE

Until the most recent from Bookworm, all the posts in this thread are a year old, and much has changed at the Smokehouse....for the BETTER! They've been very consistent for the last several months.
  19. Thanks Anonymous Source! Had I faced those questions in multiple choice format, I'm pretty sure I would have gotten 70% correct. Pretty sure. I KNOW I would have gottem 60%, so surely I would have gotten at least one more by educated guess, right? Ja! Not much worried about the Spanish. This will be fun....unless you tell us we need 90% to pass! How did it go for you, Joe Johnstun?
  20. Oh cripes. I would appreciate hearing how it goes for you in January as this is on my 2018 "to do" list. I had no problem with the old sample test, without making any effort or doing any study. Now I wonder...
  21. Buy a packet of Cynoff powder at Jara or elsehwere. $60 pesos. Dilute with water in a garden sprayer and spray around baseboards of house interior and exterior. Repeat occasionally throughout the year. No more scorpions (or cockroaches). Safe for pets.
