  1. Well, you'd have to specify which part is baloney. Questions for Kiko: I have no doubt whatsoever with your recent experience. Are you Residente Permanente? Was the property that you sold that you paid "capital gains" on your primary residence? Were all three properties yours? Did they all have buildings on them? Too many questions and too many variables to be saying "this is what I paid, be warned." BTW, Nayarit is/was very strict on "capital gains"... long before PV and Lakeside started charging.
  2. That's kind of like saying that a proofreader can't point out errors to an author. Notarios actually do make mistakes.
  3. I'm sorry Kiko, but I do not think you are correct, unless the laws have changed drastically since 2011 when we sold our San Pancho home for a very large chunk of change and paid no capital gains. The one thing I agree with is that everyone's situation is different and that independent council is required. There are many more hoops to jump through than you have indicated... one being the size of the house compared to the amount of land that it's on and it's not a blanket 200,000 deduction but is based on the UDIs. Damn rules keep changing. In 2006, the time frame was 2 years and then it changed to 5 years and then back to 2 years and, now, you say it's 3 years. Anybody who wants to nail this down should get information pertaining to THEIR situation BEFORE putting your home up for sale.
  4. Kiko, they are not on the hook for large capital gains if they are permanent residents and live in the home as their permanent residence and have not sold a Mexican property within a certain time frame.
  5. You can choose whomever you please. But I'd be beating a path to Spencer's door. This is what he just wrote on TOB. http://www.insidelakeside.com/t20342-how-to-lose-money-in-mexican-real-estate
  6. CFE removes disincentive for installation of solar panels. https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/cfe-backs-off-on-legal-action/?utm_source=Mexico+News+Today&utm_campaign=1e64aa1540-newsletter_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f1536a3787-1e64aa1540-349497701
  7. Thank you so much for the update Go Solar !!! Very much appreciated !
  8. She's HONEST. If she can't do something for you, she will not lead you down the garden path. I still giggle from my appointment where she referred to me "as a one eyed person" and that under those circumstances, she would not operate on the small cataract that is developing in my one (reasonably) good eye. Integrity is so very hard to find these days.
  9. I am so happy for you Tingting! May you have continued success and joy with your "new" vision. We are very lucky to have Dra. Claudia Camacho and Co. at our disposal. I also think that she is wonderful.
  10. Sorry for your experience Zeb and I do understand. But, to have access to the heavy duty meds here, your Doctor MUST be an Anaesthesiologist FIRST and then specialize in pain meds. That, and the prescription in triplicate with bar code is how the meds are controlled here. If something not so heavy duty is required then you have other options. Best of luck whatever your decision. I can't think of a more helpless position to be in watching someone you love in pain.
  11. I would most definitely check with Quality Care. Your first contact should be with Letty at their front desk. The pain Specialist that my hubby used was in Guadalajara and was recommended by Quality Care. HER name was Dra. Ana and the prescription came in triplicate with a bar code on it. All the meds she prescribed were only available in Guadalajara and patches were her preferred method. That said, none of them worked. And, he ended up trying just about everything. Some people are ,unfortunately, genetically inclined that way. For others, some pain meds can increase the amount of pain they are feeling. It can be a very vicious circle. Dr. Hector Valenzuela was the Doctor that my hubby was seeing at Quality Care. Very nice and very caring and it was he who put us in touch with Dra. Ana...……. she is an Anaesthesiologist who specializes in pain meds. My hubby had stage 4 colon cancer.
  12. I have yet to buy anything at Barbara's Bazaar because the parking is awful and I find their prices much higher than the other stores. Even Todo Bueno could use some serious organization and marketing. My current favourite is "It's kinda Bazaar..and kinda not"... on the lakeside of the highway in Riberas. Stuff in there seems to move very quickly. Easy to park, easy to walk around and logically displayed. YMMV.
  13. I don't have a favourite. I cruise them all. And there are a LOT of them on the highway in Riberas. Almost as much fun as going to auctions in rural Ontario. There is very little in my house that was bought new. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle... if at all possible.
  14. I came across this article from April of 2017 and thought it might be of benefit... https://www.retireinlakechapala.net/single-post/2017/04/20/Quality-Elder-Care-In-Lake-Chapala
  15. Although that's generally true Angus, one does not need a referral here for anything. You want a skin Doctor, go make an appointment with a skin Doctor. Why prolong a situation when there's no need.
  16. LOL. Yeah, there's only so much you can take off.
  17. Can't help you with a source Gringal but I hope you consider getting a unit that both cools and heats. I remember your comment about your work room being too cold in the winter as well but that a propane heater wasn't helping your lungs. Two birds, one stone.
  18. We bought and installed a Shaw System from Ajijic Electronics in 2012. In 2015, they bought the system back from me. Mike Merryman is a good guy with whom to do business. My point being that they also probably have used systems to purchase as well. Originally, I brought down a Shaw System from Canada for our house in San Pancho. Yes, even the elliptical dish fit in a large suitcase... well padded with towels. So it is possible. Do the local thing. When your dish gets blown out of alignment or something else, they are an easy phone call away and a short trip for service.
  19. LOL. My housekeeper doesn't say a thing about my one bedroom/one bathroom little house in Riberas. Hers is three bedroom/two bathroom in the center of Ajijic. She has initiative, arrives on time once a week, calls if something happened and she can't come, does a great job, and is good with my two dogs. She's happy and I'm happy. End story.
  20. Tiny, I agree with your last post. But, if it happens really frequently then I start to wonder. I've (we) have some wonderful employees over the last 22 years here and I value them. In San Miguel, we had the same housekeeper for the full nine years and she did not want to accept her finiquito and said it wasn't necessary because of other things that we had done for her and her family over the years. We insisted and helped her to set up a bank account too. In San Pancho, our housekeeper informed us that she was pregnant and would be leaving. I asked if she could talk it over with her husband because we had already sold the house and if she could stay, she would receive her finiquito in five weeks and that would be good for both herself and the baby. So, yeah, I value good employees. There are duds here and NOB.
  21. I think you missed the point of my post entirely.
  22. It's not about being cheap. It's about boundaries and respect. And respect is a two way street. Gimme, gimme, never gets. I am all about generosity but I will not be taken advantage of.
  23. Everybody's different Pete. Slow and steady wins the race. This link is worth reading. https://www.peoplespharmacy.com/2017/06/08/how-to-stop-tramadol-without-withdrawal-symptoms
/ It's not just the pain relief. Tramadol affects neurotransmitters in your brain, including serotonin which is the "feel good" neurotransmitter.
  24. The ability to tolerate pain and the ability of pain meds to ease your pain are written in our personal genetic code. https://www.painmedicinenews.com/download/GeneticTesting_PMN0413_WM.pdf
