MSAlex, I am sorry for the situation of your friend. However, I must note that it is putting someone in a precarious position to ask them to bring in meds from/to the USA/MEX without a Rx in their name. FedEx, however $$$, is a much safer and legal option. Aduana and US Customs and Border Personnel are very vigilant these days, and should the person be randomly chosen for a bag check, then be found with meds and no Rx, it can be VERY serious. One should always have the Rx in their name when traveling with meds, unless they are OTC in both countries.

Please do not assume that all people without cars cannot afford to buy them, or that they cannot afford to pay for a ride to Guadalajara or they cannot afford to pay for hospital services in a private hospital. Why would someone not want a quality facility nearby ? This new hospital is within spitting distance of me, and I am thrilled not to have to rely on the Cruz Roja for emergency care. I hope the new hospital is a success and, I , too, am thrilled with the option of immediate care/stabilization prior to a transfer to GDL if needed. If not, then decent care close by is just plain wonderful.

Yes, Tiny, I did look at those. My ceiling expanse is pretty big and those tiles are quite fancy. I agree with Ferret about the "tin" and copper colored ones. So pretty. Way too upscale, though. I prefer the planks as it doesn't chop up the space above, and I need to drop these ceilings at least an inch or two. I cant glue them down. Thank you for the suggestion.

I love those pictures , too !! Soooooo far away from my lifestyle it's not even possible to consider. I have never even seen anything like that. Way above my pay grade. I am not interested in resale value. It is my home. I have investments and this isn't it. This is just where I live, along with a hubby and 3 dogs. No way is it fancy. If covering those ugly ceilings with a removeable "fix" lowers my resale value, so be it. By the time this house is ready for resale, I won't give a flying flip. I do love that giant medallion, though. Houzz and Pinterest are my favorites browsing locations. I have a friend in the states who will check out the "feel" of some of the possible choices and he will give me an idea of what to continue to consider and what says to him, "walk away." Those are really cool ideas, and, if the space was smaller, would definitely be contenders. However, husband doesn't want that artsy of a ceiling. I think I will stick to the panel or beadboard look. I will definitely post before and after picks, but it will probably be after the rainy season. I have one or two trips planned to the US and then I will get a hands-on look at the panels so I can decide. Thanks so much for understanding my position and for the suggestions.

I think it is a nice look, too. I can post a pic, sometime later tomorrow. My ceilings are "flat" I believe. The bumps are more like plaster clumps. Small ones, like real popcorn, not what they call popcorn ceilings. It is not a covered boveda. I wish it were boveda, which I have in several rooms. I totally expect to have to get the hardware from the states and the materials, too. Good idea on the laser level. I have been speaking with one contractor, who has had experience with suspended ceilings in office buildings in the US. Thanks for taking a look at the idea.

RVGRINGO, yes, suspended ceiling tiles. Angus, I could not see the pic, but no, I am not going for the retro office/modular look. I must say, though, that mid century modern calls to me. Must be the look of my childhood, the look I saw in the homes of my parents' more prosperous friends. I had great fun in the 50-60s ! Things have come a long way in what is available. No more does it look like acoustic ceiling tile. I remember looking up in grade school and seeing the pencil holes in my classroom tiles. More to my mind was a look of beadboard paneling, or tongue in groove weathered wood. Rafterbr, I am at the age and stage that I don't really care about adding to the resale value of my home. It's a nice, spacious house in a good, middle class neighborhood, and has been added on to so many times over the years that it isn't a typical Mexican Casa with that style and charm. We bought it for the location, ample size, guest suite, breathing room, sunporch, patio, mirador and big, but not fancy, kitchen. No Mexican touches except 2 arches and 40 year old talavera tile. We even still have a 1970s baby blue tile bathroom in perfect condition. Whoever did that little bitty ceiling did it perfectly ! The buyers of this house, whether we are off to the nursing home or dead and gone, will have to revamp the kitchen and baths, so they may as well unscrew the brackets and remove the ceiling, and then THEY can endure the mess. That was what appealed to me. The ease of hiding the ugly, without a permanent glue down installation. I don't mind hearing it, but am definitely open to something other than endless dust. I just don't want to look up and see ugly every time. Simplest solution might be to take off my glasses and just not look up, I know. I suppose I will have to be more astute in the future not to sound repetetive and tdo my best to avoid taking up people's valuable time by asking them to read a post on a topic more than once. As to whether or not the answers were not to my liking, well, the suggestions offered before were much appreciated, but not applicable in this situation. In fact, I am asking specifically about floating ceiling panels.

Hi, All, I have UGLY bumpy plaster ceilings all over my house. Every ceiling looks different, all are different ages and in varying states of unattractiveness. The ones in my LR and kitchen area are especially awful. They have been patched, spackled, painted and repainted more than I want to recount. I don't want to deal with them again. Don't want them scraped, as I just do not have the stregth of soul to deal with the mess. Don't want patching because it has been done many times before. Anyone had experience with floating a new ceiling with styrofoam or new style plastic panels ? I thought about drywall, but it just seems that MDF would be too heavy. Suggestions welcome. Thanks !

We are going to GDL to get our renewals. Easy to go online and get an appointment. After that, we have a list of things to do.

I, too, cannot answer your question, but as a retired special education teacher with more than 40 years of in the classroom experience I CAN tell you this. Most teachers are not really trained to work with students who have ADHD. Even when they are trained, the class size and rigid expectations of the school/curriculum might just be too much for the teacher to give your child the attention he needs. ADD/ADHD is a complex set of behaviors, and even with medication, students need one to one or very small group training in order to learn how to work with and around their ADD/ADHD. This "syndrome" comes with gifts as well as behaviors that make traditional schooling difficult. Adaptations for tests, etc., may help in the short term, but you need to find someone who can help your child learn to control himself and develop coping mechanisms. I do not know of a school that would suit your needs. If your child were in my previous school ( The American School in Japan), I would have had him for 1 hour 4-5x a week, in a small group or even one to one, and we would work on time management, on lengthening of his attention span, and on developing behaviors to function more successfully in school.There was parent education model that gave the parents individual time with me to learn how to help their child in school and at home. Perhaps sessions with an educational psychologist or counselor trained in these methods would be helpful. I would not look to the school to adapt to the child, as the child needs to learn to adapt to the school environment. It is not easy, but it is definitely possible. There may be a retired special education teacher who could provide the services on an ongoing basis outside of school. Perhaps home scholing is an option ? I wish you the best of luck.

I am thrilled to see IKEA. We furnished an entire apartment with it in Tokyo, perfectly suited to the space and place. I don't plan on redoing my kitchen from IKEA nor do I expect the furniture to last 20 years. I don't expect that I will last that long ! 😉However, when I want a piece of furniture for a corner or outside on the sunporch, I don't always want to wait for a carpenter to come and measure, then build it, and deliver it within a month of the promised date. Sometimes I want it NOW !! That's a great thing about IKEA, CostCo, etc. I patronize the local stores as much as I can, but perhaps some will step up their game and become a bit more interested in their customers and a little speedier in their service. Perhaps not. Only time will tell.

I am so sorry, Colleen. Barcelonaman is correct. Chapala Plus os a first class bus. They leave for Chapala every half hour.

As far as I know, there is not a bus from Tlaquepaque to Chapala. In my opinion ( and being a veteran bus rider) this is the easiest, least stressful and most efficient way to do it. Take a cab to the Camionera Central Vieja in GDL. Then get on one of the busses that leave every 20 and every 30 minutes. The Primera Plus is 53 ? pesos, I think. The 2nd class one is a little cheaper, but it stops a lot, and you can never tell when it will get to Chapala. There is a bus that will go to Ajijic via the libramiento and one that goes to the Chapala station. The route through Chapala is easier and more direct. You can get to Riberas either way. You can take the one to Chapala, get off, cross the street and take a little bus or sometimes a bigger bus that says Jocotepec, and ask the driver to stop in Riberas. Chapala to Riberas is anywhere from 8-10 pesos, depending on the bus. Alternately, you can take the bus that goes to Ajijic via the libramiento and get off at the stop closest to Wal Mart. Cross the street to the WalMart stop and wait for a bus that is headed to Chapala. It will take you to Riberas, as well. If you take the bus from WalMart towards Chapala, it might be one that meanders thru San Antonio and is a little slower, and will definitely be more crowded. Some people will tell you to go to "The Alamo" stop on the other side of the carreterra and catch the bus to Chapala from there. I have done that ONCE, and hope never to have to do that again. It is a madhouse. Noisy, full of fumes and smells, tons of people all trying to catch a different bus at the same time. Even if you manage to get the right Chapala bus, you may have to stand all the way to Chapala. Just my opinion. Good luck on your trip.

We have full solar by ESun and are thrilled ! I, too, do a happy dance when the bills arrive. Excellent customer service and not one problem in almost 5 years.
