  1. Problem with Firestick Ethernet is that it connects through a USB port. Since it's not even a USB3 port, your bandwidth will be limited, and maybe that makes the Wifi faster. I can tell you though, I have two 4k Firesticks connected with Ethernet, and they work just fine when streaming 4k content. Ethernet will always be more consistent and reliable, but if Wifi works ok for you, great.
  2. Where would you want to send the pesos, if not a Mexican account? You might be able to register someone else's bank account and send the $$ directly there, I'm not sure if XE allows that.
  3. This thread was resurrected by a spam-bot. This board needs an option to flag this.
  4. I admit I was kind of skeptical at first. Covid was the bogeyman, and nobody knew how you could protect yourself. Then data started coming in. This article and other like it convinced me that masks were effective: https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coronavirus/how-two-hairstylists-with-covid-19-saw-139-clients-without-passing-on-the-virus-1.5023700
  5. You can stick your own router behind the Telmex one, or even just a Gbe switch. That's what I did. That way my devices can communicate at 1Gb/s. Pete
  6. XE works fine for me. Funds are transferred directly from my RBC account into my Bancomer account. Takes a few days. Setting up takes a while, to validate all the account information, but once done, it's a breeze. I have transferred amounts from $1000 to $10,000 C$, though have not done so recently. Pete
  7. Have you tried any third party apps? Linphone is free and open source. Pete
  8. You can try what many snowbirds are doing: have your car shipped across the U.S. border, fly down, then drive to Mexico. I don't know if that will work with a Mexican-plated car, though. It is also pricey, $1600 to take a car from Montreal to Florida, but you might be able to ship to a closer spot and drive down the rest of the way. Pete
  9. What's wrong with your existing one? Those things are pretty simple, it might be fixable. I know I had to replace the pressure regulator on mine. Unless it has been badly damaged somehow, it could be worth looking into. Pete
  10. So far, it seems that most of the infections in Canada have come from meetings indoors, where people were close for extended periods and not wearing masks (bars, partys, restaurants). It seems to me that in Mexico, where all of our gatherings are outdoors, the risk would be much less. Flying I am unsure of, though the airlines are really doing everything to minimise risks. Pete
  11. "Unsupported video signal" sounds like a problem with the TV not with the receiver. Check the cable between the two. Trying turning on the TV before the receiver or vice-versa. Pete
  12. You might inquire if your bank will accept deposits by mail. Fill in a deposit slip, include the check and mail it in. With a good VPN, there is no reason that the bank will know that you are in Mexico. Unless of course, they have registered your address in Mexico. In that case, they have flagged your account somehow and would also refuse it even if you were physically in the U.S. Pete
  13. If Wifi is your only problem, then get an separate router/access point, and turn off the Telmex Wifi. Pete
  14. Thanks for your responses. In the end though, wife decided on a totally different color... Pete
  15. Is there a local paint store that has computerized color matching? We want color to match some upholstery items. Thanks, Pete
  16. I think a lot of the ATMs we use already have a fingertip reader. That little window, with the green light? That's what it looks like to me, but I could be wrong. Pete
  17. Keep in mind that most cars on used car dealers's lots have all been detailed with engines cleaned, so it is difficult to know exactly what condition it is by looking at it. Many have also had their odometers rolled back. When we went with Spencer to look at cars, he would sometime point out how a car, showing 65,000 kms had evidence of a 90,000 km service in its service booklet. Buying from a new car dealer is a good option as they usually keep the 'good' cars for themselves. We are still very happy with our 2006 Honda CR-V. After 8 years it is still in great shape , with very little repairs needed. Pete
  18. I checked online and both WM and HD showed the product as unavailable. A couple of showings on Mercadolibre. I think I will try to get some Cynoff and a sprayer from the garden store. Thanks everyone. Pete
  19. Having a hard time locating the "Home defense" bug spray I have been using for the past 10 years. I regularly spray along the walls, doors, etc to keep the critters out. Costco, Wall-mart, Superlake did not have any, and I was told that it is no longer being manufactured. Anybody else heard this? And what would you suggest as an alternative? Thanks, Pete
  20. This has happened to me also. So, don't give them the complete form with the bottom part attached! I don't think they can tell that the top part you give them has a different bar code. Pete
  21. I have a 300 liter tank. When it reaches about 20%, I call Zeta, and have them put in 200 liters. Always fills the tank to 85-90%. Never been cheated, but then again I speak decent Spanish and keep an eye on them the whole time. Always ask the price per liter before they fill. Pete
  22. Ok, went to see a notario today to ask about selling our house. Here are the facts: Once every three years you are allowed a tax exemption of $4,300,000, this is actually 700,000 UDIs, whose value changes daily. Must be your primary residence. Must be permanente You need a tax (RFC) number You need to show six months of CFE or Telmex bills with your name and address. Bills must show sufficient amount to prove you were actually living there. If you go over the exemption, you will be taxed on the difference: $sales price - $purchase price - $exemption. Notario didn't charge anything for this consultation, so no reason to avoid consulting. Never listen only to what agents will say! Hope this helps. Pete
  23. As a permanente, you should be eligible for an exemption, which is good for houses up to around $4M pesos or so. Get an opinion from a different notario. First, ask what conditions are necessary to qualify and make sure you meet them. Then tell your buyer you will not sell unless you can use a notario that will accept your exemption. Pete
  24. My 2006 CR-V has developed a very minor gas leak. I would normally go to Pablo, but he already has way too much work. recommendations? Thanks, Pete
  25. Filled up at BP la Canacinta around 11:00, 25-min wait. 500 pesos max. At 12:30, passed by, there was no lineup! Pemex near Arileo still closed.
