  2. I told my wife about this thread and I asked her that she donate my body to science but she has already made plans to donate my body to the Museo de las Momias in Guanajuato so she can visit and nag me. 💀

  4. Within the last year or so I have taken 3 excellent classes at LCS - one on getting my driver's license - the instructor even went with us that day to help - I think everyone passed - advanced care planning - and last week on medicare in Mx (by a US medicare specialist) (which helped me understand what could NOT be covered)

  5. Here are a couple sites that I found, I have not read them thoroughly. Perhaps some of the information will help with your question. IMHO It may be beneficial to contact a property management company and ask them. https://yunglava.com/mexican-property-rental-laws-and-regulations/ https://www.mondaq.com/mexico/landlord--tenant---leases/1392244/rent-increase-clauses-in-mexico-real-estate-lease-agreements

  6. IMO I would go to your mailbox and, if you have a lot of old mail, delete it. Your mailbox may be full not allowing you to receive new messages.

  7. In the above list of qualifications from the Treasurer he refers to LCS as a charity. This is not correct. In Mexico a non-profit and a charity are not the same thing. A charity has a very high bar that means all of its activities must be directed towards a specific charitable goal such as housing orphans or providing food to poor families and it must be registered as a charity with the government. LCS does not have a charitable goal and is not registered as one. It is a non-profit, but it is not a charity. I find it disturbing that the board does not know this, especially the Treasurer who should absolutely realize this. It makes me wonder what level of competence this board has. What is the basis for selecting the board members?

  8. Our first and only encounter with the LCS was in 2001 when we moved to Ajijic. Neither of us could put a finger on what we disliked but both of us just had a bad feeling about the place. It seemed like a great idea that the founder had that had somehow been subverted by the people then in charge. There was nothing to complain about, it just seemed like why get involved in the same old, same old stuff we had left behind in the US. We never regretted not being a part of it nor did we discourage others who asked questions of us. We followed it's ups and downs mainly from newspaper stories. This sounds similar to what we saw years ago. To each his own.

  11. I was surprised to see that members could not ask questions at a board meeting - unless the question was given - in writing - to the president - 24 hours in advance. Hopefully he is easily always available in the LCS office to just hand over the question And my recall is that the meeting agenda does not have a requirement to be published 24 hours in advance - before the cutoff for questions in writing. ? I have not attended a lot of non profit board meetings - but a few - and questions from attendees were always welcome. Is discouraging questions with a pre-approval required a normal practice for a community non profit - ? Also what about publishing an agenda? Ok for it not to be published 24 hours etc in advance of meeting from the LCS Website - Any LCS member may attend a Board meeting as an observer, except for closed sessions. Any member may speak — provided a request has been made to the President in writing, stating the subject and purpose, not less than 24 hours prior to the Board meeting.

  12. I would another item to the list of concerns posted above by sarainchapala: 7. The surprise announcement that the President of LCS now carries the title President and CEO (Chief Executive Officer) with management control over all aspects of the organization.

  13. interesting - I do hope LCS is responsive to applicants for the treasurer position. After the (interesting) LCS annual meeting, I did volunteer for the audit committee and my application was acknowledged and I was advised someone would get back with me shortly. Note - The reason I volunteered was that Steve said LCS did not have any volunteers for the audit committee. I guess one needs to define shortly - after the next 9 days of silence (after we will get back with you shortly) , I did withdraw my application as I did expect some sort of response within several days - based on my experience working in for profits and non profits - and decided the silence was not a good start - so better off un volunteering And did receive the recent email that Executive Director, Luis F. Pacheco will no longer be with LCS. So appears that several positions are open - Executive Director and Treasurer and Audit Committee.
