  2. It is a good idea to keep your Medicare with A & B, as you may need it on visits to the USA, or when you move back; willingly or not. We moved to Mexico in 2001 and bought a home in Ajijic. We sold that one in 2004 and bought a larger place, in Chapala centro, in 2004. Then, medical issues caught up with us. Care was excellent in Guadalajara hospitals, and with our various doctors, but the frequency began to add up. My wife reached medicare age, I developed more problems, including COPD. That was the straw that broke the camel's back, as I needed a lower elevation to reduce my depen

  3. Land invasion is common in Southern Mexico... I know several cases of both Mexicans and expats who havelost the land they own to the zapatistas, ejidos and others..Buying large amount of land where the locals won small parcels just because you have he money does not seem to be a good idea. In Chiapas at 2h from San Cristobal a cuple of foreigners bought land at the entrance of Tonina and developped a macademia ranch alomg with a guest ranch, they worked the land , employed many locals and helped a lot of people 6 or 7 years later just before the first harvest came in , the zapatistas cam

  4. Dear Carnivore, There’s a lot I can say about your post and experience. First of all I want to apologize for your bad experience, secondly you mentioned being in the food industry yourself and should know that the best thing a customer can do “is let management know of your experience “ your food wasn’t cooked right ? You didn’t like it ? Let them know!! It gives them the opportunity to fix it! Why go behind “doors” and criticize and talk bad about the place when they have no clue there’s an unhappy customer. Good or bad reviews helps us grow. But the most important ones are the one brought up

  5. Just felt like rebutting a Post made here recently about South Dakota plates and their history at Lakeside. For some reason, back when, a few folks wanted to make out the whole 'using South Dakota plates in Mexico' as a sham if not a scam. There was much mis-information then and the recent Post just brings those mis-representations back for some reason. Jubilacion is actually spot on with his/her comments. It was NEVER a scam or sham nor a ploy, Clay County was NOT the only county in SD offering the state-wide program to out-of-staters etc etc. Why this.... using SD as a viable option fo

  6. Hog droppings! You can get virtually any BP drug over the counter. The US prescription would just serve as written name. Any shop will do but there are places that sell generics and one in particular is 25% off on Mondays. You should have a doctor become your primary care provider for many reasons.

  7. A few weeks ago I asked recommendations for a driver to Guadalajara for 4 to 5 weeks. I had several names given and I talked with all of them, but they could not assure me I would have the same driver every day. One person answered me on the web board, Noel Rivera and he also sent me a p.m.indicating to me he would drive me every day for as many weeks as I needed. I called Noel and I decided on him as my driver. The appointments were every week day M-F at 11:20 for 15 day. He uses disinfectant spray in the car, hand gel and also wore a mask at all times covering nose and mouth. Noel a

  8. Let me start with a confession. I'm not living in Ajijic any more. I now live in Queretaro. But I have made a few trips back since moving and this site has been a good way for me to quietly asses any issues like traffic that are going on. But in this case, I feel I need to speak out because I would feel awful if I didn't and someone was made for the worse for it. Three months ago I had COVID. I had a moderate case and did not need hospitalization. But afterwards, I just didn't get better. The fever went away, but he shortness of breathe, (SOB,) fatigue, chest pain, strange symptoms comin

  9. That story says, " Vita Deyun is the first Mexican treatment that has undergone rigorous laboratory tests, but has also proven its effectiveness in more than 7,500 people. Mexican doctors performed numerous in-vitro tests on patients and health personnel to verify the effectiveness of the supplement..." In-vitro test are only test tube tests, so how could it be effective on people when they are not tested in-vivo?

  13. Heidi and I both had REAL cuban sandwiches at Sabor del Caribe in Riberas today and they were fantastic. Best I've had since leaving Florida! The sandwich is ham, pork (cooked the Cuban way!), swiss cheese, pickles and mustard...served with fries for $85 pesos. I would have gladly paid much more! All kinds of goodies on the menu at excellent prices. They bake their own bread and pastries. Took a loaf home and Heidi at about 1/3 befoer we arrived! Damn, it was good!

  16. I have NO idea why you went off on me? I was just there, you have not been, what's your issue? I was 100% AGREEING WITH YOU in my post that COVID must have changed the vendor dynamics because right now, not 8 months ago and not 12 months from now, but last Monday, the length of the two Tiangius are about the same. That's it. Nothing else. I only know what I have seen, I have no history pre-COVID. I apologize if you took offense and misinterpreted my comment, I am not correcting you or anyone else just reporting what I saw firsthand. Excellent pictures by the way.

  21. That would seem to me to be the first step.. But so many of the expats here won’t do that, they want someone else to do it for them...they like to complain. They buy a property that’s cheap because it’s very close to a commercial area which has had bars and restaurants with music long before they purchased their property and then they want other people to solve their problems for them. A little due diligence would have solved their problem before it even started..

  23. By this statement are you advocating euthanasia? So if all the 'spay and nutter is not working' then why are so many animals sterilized daily. A 3 day clinic can sterilize 170 to over 200 animals (cats & dogs). One of the groups goes to the small communities and gathers up animals to be sterilized. Other groups hold weekend clinics in the surrounding communities. I believe, all the local shelters, sterilize the animals that pass thru their hands. Think of how bad it would be if there weren't active spay and neuter programs going on.

  24. Request your ballot NOW Cutoff dates for requesting your ballot vary by state, but are as early as Oct. 3, so don’t put this off. Request your ballot from the last place you were registered to vote, not necessarily the last place you lived. You must submit a completed Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to your local election officials. The FPCA. serves as both your ballot request and voter registration, and must be received at least 45 days before an election, to allow ample time to process your request and resolve any problems. Once approved, your name will be put on a list of voters t

  25. This entire post has become so ridiculous that it's now only best described as bad or drunken humour. In case some of the more self-aggrandizing posters have forgotten....the whole purpose of the forum it to allow restaurant clients to honestly report their good OR bad experiences so that anyone who happens to read the post can make their own decision about patronizing the eatery, OR not. Some of the most recent posts can only be described as drivel and an incredible waste of time for both the poster and reader!

I forget the man's name, but he also comes from GDL and provides this service in Dra. Justina's Clinic. I had an x-ray before the procedure to confirm my suspicions of diminishing cartilage. He told me to wait about 5-6 months and get another x-ray. I did and my cartilage is growing. I can only speak for my experience but I'm grateful I caught it in time while I still had cartilage for the stem cells to initiate re-growth. I did research before choosing this procedure an

  28. This attitude is why so many of us who cannot afford it end up paying for bad meals, overpriced service providers, poor repairs to our vehicles and homes, and yes, substandard medical care. The idea that we should just be silent when any of the above has occurred is ludacris. We owe it to our community to warn them off and we most certainly do NOT owe it to business owners who aren't providing quality to pay and hope they do better next time. Had I read Carnivore's review before going it would have saved me time and money. Their description mirrored our experience to a tee.

But if you read again, it was not ME who brought up the subject with ERRONEOUS information in another thread.... that was subsequently locked. And the good news is that you did not have to read the Post seeing that you were thoroughly informed years ago and have good retention of the subject matter.

  33. In your "home country" as a citizen no but as a "Residente Permanente" yes you need to carry your immigration card at all times to prove your immigration status when asked by officials exactly the same as in Mexico according to the SEGOB INM rules. Not a copy or a notarized copy but the official INM card/document. Break the rules if you want to. Federal Police and INM officials can ask. So can INSABI [using their emergency room etc], state and federal agencies when doing business with them. Probably the National Guard since they are replacing the Federal Police can ask also.

Best to take your bottle or old script to the counter so they can read it themselves (sometimes they look it up in a thick reference book that lists drugs in both English and Spanish). Occasionally you will not find exactly what you had in US. Years ago could not find the time-release version of a heart medication, it just wasn't available in MX at that time. Sometimes with OTC meds and supplements, dosages will not be the same as what we bought in the US or they will have other "
