  1. To update the smoking question, it's two young guys who are trying desperately to make a go of it. Immediately upon reading the smoking policy concerns, they responded to this webboard in a mature, positive, and professional way. We went back Friday evening: there is a prominent NO SMOKING sign, they are going to create a two-table area in the open area behind the restaurant's swinging saloon doors for patrons who want to smoke. They have been THE most responsive restaurateurs I've seen pretty much anywhere. And, as the topic says, these are DAMN GOOD BURGERS. Please give them a try: have some complementary popcorn as you wait for your meal to be prepared to order, sit and chat with them in their perfect US-accented English, learn who they are and what they are trying to accomplish, then enjoy a DAMN GOOD BURGER. Thank you, Beto and keep up the good work.

  2. As of tomorrow Beto’s Shack is smoke free. We will have a table outside in back of the restaurant designated for smoking, with an awning to protect from the sun. We're thankful for the support and the constructive criticism.

  3. you’re right, I’m sorry, I’m just getting started so it’s been a bit hard making ends meet but I’m getting a full time wait person and it won’t happen again, we'd be really happy to have u back and give u the best service we can. We're really sorry for the bad experience, but looking forward to offer our costumer's the best food service and attention.

  4. Interesting article but there is much more to it than "time". One has to assume that the antibiotic prescribed will actually do the job. The wide spectrum antibiotics being prescribed are a good part of the problem causing antibiotic resistance. IF Doctors actually knew what was causing the infection and exactly pinpointed the antibiotic required, it would go a long way to solving said problem. Basically, it's their best guess and I want no part of that. Even in situations of sepsis or CSF involvement, a quick microscopic check in a lab will tell the Doctor which category of bacteria is involved and they can immediately prescribe something more definitive than a wide spectrum antibiotic. Every person that I know who is vaccinated STILL wears a mask and takes precautions to avoid getting the virus and possibly being the cause of spread and/or mutation. It's what grown up responsible people do.

  5. It is the tri-strain. We were also given a pneumonia booster shot and was offered a tetanus booster but declined that. Now that I know the place doesn't exist, I probably won't return....even the doctors that I've known at that location probably weren't the real one's either. I guess that I was mostly lost!

  7. What an absurd comment. What is "wrong" with the Mexican economy? The Indian economy? The Brazilian economy? Are you aware that one Euro isn't equal to one US dollar? That one Aussie dollar is not equal to one US dollar? That one rupee isn't equal to one US dollar? Why make a comment when you obviously have zero understanding of exchange rates and world economics?

  9. OK.... can't stand it any longer. If no canned spinach is not easily available here, WHY can't the people seeking buy some fresh or frozen and simply cook the amount required ( to death) to equal volume of canned needed?

  10. The lack of understanding of global currencies that different countries and regions have and use, is highly evident in your comment and the phrasing of your question.

  13. To keep or not pay for Part B Medicare is a very personal decision. The current $170/mo (per person if there is a significant other!) is certainly a chunk of change to see go out the door with seemingly no value. Friends like gringal/spouse long ago made the decision that they would die in Mexico and I believe them. BUT I have other friends who made that same prediction but life vs death got in the way.... medical problems which only had solutions in the US of A. They had kept paying Part B so could go back without the penalty. Lived there about 10 more years by making that decision. Would have died within 2 months they were told if they stayed but without the 'drug' not available in Mexico. So it's a crap shoot. And a personal decision. Make that decision wisely.... or as wisely as one can without having a crystal ball.

  15. Seems like they taketh away more than they giveth, EVERY TIME !! I dropped Part B shortly after we moved here. Even with several short hospitalizations and numerous doctor bills along the way since 2004, we're way ahead. The problem I saw was finding a doctor who would take a new Medicare patient in the U.S. and the expense of getting there and staying while the problem was taken care of. I've been happy with my care in Mexico.

  16. I would not hesitate to buy a unit when completed. Just think about it, every morning you will be able to breath in all the exhaust fumes caused by the well maintained Coca Cola trucks and at no additional costs. ☺️

  17. Come on Pedro, you're getting a bit too personal here. Fred was not a former Mexican lawyer. And none of us know or should care about how free he was with his advice on U.S. legal matters. His questions were good one. We had the same and ended up doing a Mexican will because we own a house here. As noted, you can name your heirs as beneficiaries on bank and investment accounts. Actually, if you are certain who you are leaving it to, and the heirs are direct relatives I believe you can put them directly on your house deeds as well and avoid probate altogether. It does seem to rake a long, expensive time to probate a will here. If this might work for one, consult a notary. It didn't work for us because there are no blood relatives we'd leave anything to, let alone a house.

  18. Never mind the over 5,200,000 people who have died of coronavirus in less than 2 years, eh? And you know why the virus is still around? Because of people like you who spread and believe absurd conspiracy theories.

  20. The warmer lowland areas have mosquitos after the rainy season and a more effective treatment is done when the heavy rains stop so the lying water can be treated then and not needed again after another heavy rain or two. The program is Federal government funded, state government administrated, municipal government advertized and coordinated and doesn't cost the local government a penny. Your IVA and SAT taxes pay for it.

  21. Ditto on Dr. Daniel Briseno and San Antonio Hospital. He was completely thorough and gave me copy of his pictures before I left the treatment room. Then I was taken to recovery room and left to fully awake. The staff at the hospital were fine and the charges were told to me even before I went there. They took biopsies and charged extra for that, which was reasonably priced. A week later I contacted Dr. Briseno and he provided biopsy results, which fortunately were fine. Based on my experience, I totally recommend Dr. Daniel Briseno as well as San Antonio Hospital. I would go to Guadalajara as a last resort !!

  22. If there were a bunch of Aussies here and you asked what is wrong with their economy that their dollar isn't equivalent to the US dollar, or a bunch of Europeans and you asked what's wrong with the European economy that a Euro isn't equal to a US dollar, I daresay you would have received similar responses.

  23. There’s always pundits like Utilitus who try to give reasons why markets behave the way they do but the reality is more like what Barrower describes. Markets are manipulated by governments and major financial institutions and they are the ones who benefit from all this. The idea that we live in a free market capitalistic world is a myth. The recent development of limitless money printing just goes to show that.

  24. I'm a smoker and I never light up in a restaurant. If I want an after dinner smoke, I walk out on the street. Now what about all those people who slather on perfume and aftershave that I have to breathe while trying to eat a meal?

  25. Perhaps if you had read my original post regarding my cigarettes, you would have seen that I said "I'll." leave my cigarettes at home. Smart people know that I'll is a contraction for I will. So fly back to your limb and wait for the next one!

  26. It's kind of sad. I posted about a good experience Heidi and I had to let people know and, to possibly help the restaurant. Unfortunately, there always seems to be vultures sitting on their respective limbs waiting to fly down and attack something! I swore months ago that I would never post on this board again. I guess, during a senior moment, I forgot...I won't make that mistake again! By the way, I don't need an English lesson from someone who obviously can't read! ADIOS!

  27. May I suggest the Chapala Cruz Roja could be a great way to donate in Mike's memory. They could start a heart related fund in his name. I'll check with them and post back here.

  28. Go Canada! there will be 40-50,OOO people at Commonwealth stadium wearing snowmobile suits watching soccer and all of Mexico will watch on TV in the comfort of their homes or sports bars. I am wearing my jacket this morning because it's still cold HERE. Don't you people ever lighten up? A simple post about UNUSUAL cold HERE and an important soccer game and y'all gotta argue about global climate "scientists say" nonsense.

  29. Opportunity for what? Be ignored still? The problem around here isn't our neighbors, it is our government that does very little outside of Chapala itself. Sorry, years of deteriorating everything around here unless volunteers take care of the government's work ourselves has made me a bit cynical.

  35. Daniel Briseno did an endoscopy on me including biopsy next to ulcer wound and fortunately he is now local for endo and colonoscopy at SAT. I have the file including disc, fotos and written observation all of which I am capable of understanding as to accuracy.
