  1. There is a Ukrainian refugee here I am helping. I thought it would be helpful to introduce her to someone who speaks her language. She has lost everything.

  2. For some unknown reason traffic was great today - Weds. Around 10:30 AM I sailed past the five lights at Superlake and Walmart, drove through La Floresta and was only stopped briefly at the Tianguis. I shoulda bought a lottery ticket! SunFan

  4. I agree. Many foreigners I speak to have an inflated opinion of how much impact and significance they have in Mexico. Keep motoring and keep your head down.. SunFan

  5. Now that is realism! It boggles my mind how many ferners here believe their insignificant #'s affect things like this around here.-SNORK!

  6. When we first moved here in 2005 the family that works for me had four kids and one vehicle. Now all the kids are grown and have kids of their own. The over all group has around 6 vehicles and 2 motos. That story is replicated in the community and explains a lot of the increased traffic.

  9. I just heard that Rob passed away yesterday in Arizona. Perhaps some of you played tennis with him or his wife Patsi. He played linebacker for the LA Rams during the Roman Gabriel era, wrote science fiction books and brought the first gaming mouse to the public. The article linked below tells his story in his own words. There were so many people we've met living in Ajijic the last 20 years that lived an extraordinary life. Rob was just one of them. 10. The Monarch butterflies have started their trek North and its going to be a tough one. When they reach Oklahoma and other southern states, they stop to lay their eggs. A single Monarch will lay one egg on a milkweed plant and may lay over a hundred eggs on different milkweeds. This year it has been a cold spring and milkweeds are not growing. When a Monarch cannot find another milkweed for an egg, it will go back and lay another egg on the same milkweed. This milkweed may accumulate 20 or more eggs from the same monarch. When they hatch there is not enough milkweed to sustain them. Many will die and predators will eat many. From the time it hatches until it becomes a butterfly is usually 4 or 5 days. Without enough food it may take 20 days and few will survive this length of time. My tribe the Chickasaws and other civic groups have planted milkweed gardens for them but this cold weather has really stunted their growth. Cows will not eat milkweeds and prior to my knowledge of their relationship with the Monarchs, I eliminated all of them from my pastures. Now I am thinking of seeding some back. With all of their problems, I don't know how much longer Monarchs will be around for us to enjoy.

  11. jajajajajajaja. Have you deluded yourself into thinking that a smattering of ferners driving around here are more responsible for increase in traffic than Mexicans who outnumber you in THEIR country by zillions. That's like saying Mexicans are responsible for mucho mas traffic in California.-SNORK!

  12. Our United Healthcare Medigap plan reimbursed us for several emergencies. We had to pay for first, document, and get paid back. It was not that hard.

  13. I have said for about the past 5 or 6 yrs that you can hardly tell when the snowbirds arrive or leave because traffic is permanently bad now that Ajijic has been found by babyboomers from the north. It is not about the local governments tying things in knots, as Mainecoons claims. IT is the shear number or volume of traffic and people now living in the Lakeside area. You cannot blame the government when we have no real room for infrastructure improvement when the carretera is between the lake and the mountains. Tough situation. I feel sorry for many of the poor Mexicans who cannot afford the price of gasoline. We gringos are to blame for the traffic gridlock.

  15. My first language was Ukrainian but I haven’t spoken it daily for the last 50 years since after my mother died. I also have some Russian having worked there in the 90’s with a linguistic professor from the Moscow State University as my tutor, but again, that was 30 year’s ago, so I am somewhat rusty. What do you need a Ukrainian speaker for…..maybe I can help.

  16. Some time ago I saw a news story that said auto registrations in Jalisco have tripled, or something along that order. It isn't going to get better particularly since the local government is working so hard to tie it up in knots.

  21. Macrolibramiento, no contest. Lazaro Cardenas is a parking lot pretty much all day long. Two o'clock you get involved in mid day break traffic. On a long trip like that absolutely not worth the aggravation, stressful driving and likely delays to go through.
