  1. I have seen the error of my ways! Thanks to the insightful DM that I received this morning (subject line was "sad emojis"), everything has become clear! No more logical arguments for me, trying to read both sides of an issue and even - GASP! - sometimes changing my viewpoint, no, from now on, I will wait to receive this type of argument because it was so clear, so impersonal and such a great way to convince me that I've been wrong all along! virgo lady 717 Started conversation: 8 hours ago Dear Ding-a-Ling, Get a Life. On a more serious note, I really thought about whether or not to post this. After I stopped laughing when I first read it, I realized that it puts everything I feel about this topic in a nutshell: there is a group that is so self-righteous that they believe that if they're unable to convince others of their viewpoint that it's perfectly acceptable to be a bully. There is so much more I'd like to say, but it won't change a thing -- on either side. To those that contacted me via DM and have given support, thank you and I won't "out" you because no one should receive these types of messages.

  3. I've lived in Ajijic for 13 years and the only problem I've had was a doped up guy who went through the neighborhood setting fires on a New Years eve about 5 years ago. Fortunately, no damage was done to our house. (We got home in time from dinner). We figured out how he got in and promptly installed bars in that space. We also have a good neighborhood watch. Since we don't have a yard, we don't have a dog. I think some folks on here are getting a little extreme in their readiness for trouble. Either that, or we have a very problem-free mixed Mexican/Gringo neighborhood here in Ajijic Centro. I also agree with Cedros about leaving the door ajar for the dogs. It also leaves it ajar for a potential problem.

  5. The Brew House is possibly still owned by the people who own Adelita's. The quality of what is served at the Brew House is not, currently, the same as what's served at Adelita's. It is located in the same building as the Brewery "Corazon de Malta". The Brewery is not involved in the restaurant but their beers, on tap, are available in the restaurant. The Brew house has been for at least the last 5 or 6 years at the same location at the western end of Ajijic just a few metres south of the Carretera on Calle de Las Flores #25. The service and food have been consistently "up - and - down" and unreliable. Overall reason (read excuse) is a total lack of management and knowledgeable supervision. As a result they have a well-earned reputation as serving"undercooked unidentifiable fish" and an inconsistent burger presentation. It's not, in any way, what it could be if......they bothered to listen to dissatisfied clientele and, then, actually did something about it! ¡Hola a todos nuevamente! Solo queremos agradecer infinitamente su ayuda y la confianza depositada, si en algo más podemos ayudar no duden en llamarnos. Muchas gracias Sonia y Alejandro

  7. When the new 500 peso bill came out, I used it and some change to pay a bill. The vendor kept looking at me and repeating the price. I kept looking back like, "What?" Finally, he looked a little more closely and realized his mistake. Whatever the Treasury folks are smoking, it's STRONG. Here we go again...

  12. Do folks actually do that? How sick. About how many are doing this in Ajijic or Chapala each Christmas? I love my dogs. And when one passes away, I try to find another rescue dog, hopefully not a puppy that would need to be house trained.

  13. There is people in the Mexican Treasury department that must enjoy smoking weed. First they make the new 500 pesos bill almost the same color as the 20. Then they make the new 20 pesos bill almost the same color as the 50 and so on.

  14. I will happily wear a mask for the rest of my life. No illness, no flu, not even a cold for the last three years and I ride the bus. No meds of any kind for anything. I'm too fat probably because I don't wear a mask ALL the time.

  15. Saves time when you get the registration station if you have the refuerzo form printed out. AND remember each clinic has been different so why cause yourself any anxiety when you get there, just register and take the form with you. You retain 1/2 the form as proof of the booster.

  16. Actually, I was told by our vet many moons ago, (I was in HS at the time), that rib bones are very bad as they splinter and can cause internal punctures. If this should happen it requires surgery and can lead to death. I wont take that chance with my dogs.

  17. Actually, why do the dogs need to go out at night? I have had dogs my entire life and nobody in my family ever felt the need to leave any doors ajar overnight. During the winter months the cold and snow would be a great deterrent, not to mention any "critters" and mosquitoes which might enter the rest of the year. Keep your doors closed and locked.

  18. Eric Blair is correct. What you need is a lot of noise. Either a siren or horn which makes a lot of it. This will make the intruders uneasy and almost all of them will run away. As for the taser or stun gun, you don't bring them to a gun or knife fight, you will get hurt. Best is a baseball bat if they aren't armed, if they are its best to comply with their demands. I recently went thru a carjacking attempt in Texarkana, Texas but they ran off when I emerged with a 38 in my hand. They were lucky.

  19. First: I don't know about the legality of owning tasers in Mexico. But we have several. We bought them because our dog was attacked too many times by aggressive dogs. We carry them on dog walks, and "fired" them more times than I wish was necessary. Never had to taser a dog though, the sound and sparks alone are great deterrents against dogs. One thing to keep in mind these are "contact" self-defense tools, unlike tasers used by cops, meaning the prongs must touch the attacker. Would this be practical during burglary? I don't know, and I hope we won't ever have to test. You can buy them as fortified flashlights (flashlight / taser combination). The cost is 200-250 pesos, and they are sold openly in markets. We bought them in Mexico DF.

  21. This is misinformation at its finest, spread by the anti-masking crowd. The virus doesn't "fly around" on its own. It is carried in droplets. Masks prevent these droplets both from leaving you, and getting to you. Simple stuff. Masks work. This is why unmasked events are "super spreader" events.

  22. Putting things into perspective. In 1997 I started lagunanet and some people considered it the best thing since sliced bread, it saved people a ton of money "as long as they did not go over 100 calls" people were able to send email and do instant messaging, the web was still pretty green back then but it made communicating back and forth easy and avoided costly long distance bills. Telmex was the next best thing, it was new, cheaper, and they offered 56kbps over our 33kbps which later prompted me to start up a high speed wireless service, which again, was much better and faster than dial up and while we had our issues it was pretty reliable and you did not need a phone line for it to work. Eventually Telmex started high speed DSL which was pretty darn good and fast, however, over time. there service has degraded considerably, some areas are fortunate enough having fiber optic from Telmex many whom had to pay for the infrastructure in order to get it. Then came Illox which has seemed to have had a few stumbling blocks and issues but it was well received because they offered higher download and upload speeds than Telmex DSL. TotalPlay is currently the next best thing, I have it here in El Chante and have had it since June, and so far, with the exception of two outages when it was first installed it has been very reliable and very fast. I currently have their 200meg connection and am very pleased as are most people I have talked to. I also have Unet out of Jocotepec who also offer high speed Internet, I get 50 megs for $279.00 pesos per month. Just like our service back in 1997 our infrastructure was new and the longer time goes by, replacing and renewing equipment becomes costly, which in the case of Lagunanet it was no longer feasible to maintain. Total Play's infrastructure is brand new, over time, junction boxes and fiber cable will begin to deteriorate and crack but if Total Play keeps investing and maintaining their infrastructure it will probably be around for a while, that is, until the next new company or technology moves in. In the meantime, anyone who needs reliable internet service should always consider having two ISP's because nothing is 100% reliable and there will be service failures.

  28. Well that is interesting since about a week ago I was reading an article about several US athletes caught with fake Covid vaccination cards. Guess they had concerns' about possible side effects. (sorry I do not have a link to this story).

  29. I love that one of the unique qualities of Texas is the ability to be armed. I know they have online some very real looking replica guns. I wonder if they are legal here. Pulling one of them ount if needed, could be helpful. Usually in that kind of situation, the bad guys will back off (unless they also have a gun)

  30. With respect to home invation, my best protection, IMO, is my house itself. I use to live in Vista del Lago at the top street. This was like a big sign saying, "I have money and valuable things inside." Now I live in Chapala Haciendas, and anyone looking at my house wouldn't think there was anything worth stealing. Ditto on my car. Mechanically it's perfect, but from the outside, it is a "junker." No one is going to think I have much worth stealing, though a couple of years ago, in the WM parking lot, someone did steal the "computer" that is under the hood. Must have needed it for their car. Best of health to all.
