  3. This is terrible news. For the seven and a half years we lived in Ajijic we always used Mike's services. Over the years we got to know him as a friend! He was a wonderful person.

  4. Thankyou, Chris, for putting this up on THIS board. I know it was on the other one, but many (like me) don't go to both. That said, I hesitated to post here as was not really my place...... but am glad for this chance to express my extreme shock at the loss of one so young, and my most heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Mike was a wonderful guy and a very competent computer tech......... for both me and my husband for several years. In fact he built my most recent tower (yes, I'm a desktop devotee) , and did his best over and over to drag me kicking and screaming into the 21st century, and from WIn 95 to Win 7 and finally to Win 10....... which he "altered" just for me so I could pretend it was still the one I had finally learned to use. I'll miss him greatly, not just for his services, but because I truly liked him. And of course, because he was Canadian, and he loved cats!

  5. Netflix is currently streaming two films produced by the Chickasaw Nation. They are true stories of two famous Chickasaws. "Te Ata" and "Montford" are true accounts of early Chickasaw life in Oklahoma. Before the Lake Chapala purists weigh in, let it be known the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations are believed to be descendants of the Toltecs who came from the Lake Chapala area. The Toltecs followed a leaning pole and eventually wound up in Alabama and MIssissippi.

  8. As people usually say, "I am asking for a friend." I'm seeking a doctor to talk with about a final exit with dignity and who understands palliative care for a person who wants to be home at the end. Not looking for hospice care. serious responses please, preferably in PM.. Thanks.

  11. I got a FROWN thingy on this post commenting on the unusual cool weather here this Fall. Is this not historical FACT??? Ice ages to tropical oppressive heat over the 6+ billion years of our planets history??? And yes, even within many of our lifetimes the so called climate "experts" were predicting the next ice age!!!

  14. Sort of somewhat right. I was born and raised in the US but left when I was 17 and never lived there again, nor spent more time there than just passing through. Been a Canadian citizen since 1977, my daughters were born and raised there, and consider myself to be Canadian. So it's more like I happened to be born and raised in the US, but lived most of my adult life in Canada.

  16. Agree with Ferret.... no banking or any financial stuff on cell phone. BUT.... back to OP. Are you trying to pay with cash or credit card? I suggest you ignore the old account completely, register as a NEW customer with a different email address, cell phone number and password. Now plan to pay with CASH. Yes, it's a little inconvenient, but no hoops to go thru, and no personal info sent to who-knows-where/whom. And there are enough Oxxo's around it's no biggie. They've really beefed up security these days so you will have to receive a 6-digit security code before you can proceed to enter your account. 3 options.... I choose "send SMS to cell phone" which I receive immediately in "messages". Put those numbers where indicated and you can proceed. I know this is to protect ME so no worries. Also, with any larger purchases (2 recent) they've emailed me a password to be given to driver delivering (iShop or home) before he will hand it over. Thinking this is related to all the fraud going on these days, and more than happy to comply.

  21. No more Ice Ages allowed; the weather has to now be nice and predicable, so people can make plans that they don't have to change. Unacceptable if it gets colder or hotter than last year, or more rain or less rain. We all should know that by now. Get with the Program

  23. That's the meaning of ignorant, Rick- uninformed or misinformed. Ignorant doesn't mean stupid, as many people seem to think. It means you don't have knowledge about something. We are all ignorant about thousands of things.

  24. Go Canada! there will be 40-50,OOO people at Commonwealth stadium wearing snowmobile suits watching soccer and all of Mexico will watch on TV in the comfort of their homes or sports bars. I am wearing my jacket this morning because it's still cold HERE. Don't you people ever lighten up? A simple post about UNUSUAL cold HERE and an important soccer game and y'all gotta argue about global climate "scientists say" nonsense. This is supposed to be a lighthearted topic about cold coming here about 1 month early and an interesting Can. vs. Mex. soccer match which I am going to watch and so is mi amigo Lupe. He says M.2-C.1. I say opposite. What part of that don't you get ricks? Instead of highjacking this thread why don't you add your unrelated comment to one of the other threads of which there are a few on here about which you speak-eh!

  25. This is not meant to be a comment on Climate Change or not, but rather how we might be visualizing it.... drawing conclusions from our 'recent' past. "Recent Past" being defined as the last 50 years. While IMO there is proof enough that things are escalating at a rate not seen before, to judge that 'it must be because I've experienced a change myself' is not an accurate conclusion to come to. We say that 'we just broke a 50 year record with this (take your choice, hot or cold)'. But if one just looks at that statement it MUST mean that 50 years ago it was this 'bad', hot or cold. It's repeating itself but somehow we don't take it that way. We see it as a new situation. Another factor of when we talk about how the temperature affects us.... how we personally are colder or hotter than before.... is that for the most part as we age we become less tolerant of temperature 'spreads'... we generally are less able to be comfortable at the outer boundaries of hot and cold. So we complain and "think" that it is hotter or colder. Or at least I do and my wife does. My whole point is that it is DATA that should be listened to, not how we/our bodies are judging it.

  26. Although Medicare 'will be broke 6 years from now' is an accurate statement as of this date, it is misleading (not your fault) because it doesn't take into account that neither Party will let that happen. There is not a politician, either alive or dead, that would let that happen on their watch. We have all been hearing this song for at least 25 years. "They" will come together and at least 'kick the can down the road'. 6 years will come and go and we will still have Medicare... and maybe even an enhanced version. While I'm not at all counting on THAT we will all have Medicare basically as we know it for a long time. As far as the link.... IMO it's just one more guy (and he may have a point or two) among thousands who have a theory and may be hawking either a book or a service or fame. We could take that whole scenario and go back in history and see similar things preached time and time again. There's really nothing new here... again IMO.

  27. Crossed the border (permanently) at Calexico-Mexicali 23 years ago as of this Thursday Nov. 18. I can absolutely state weather last 5 years has gotten progressively colder, especially overnight... sometimes as much for high altitude cold AIR and winds, but also actual thermometer readings. At the same time, last few years have had hotter weather earlier in the April -- June period. Used to be people "escaped" in May. Now...... Climate change is not just HOT. It's also FREAKY other changes. Witness most of lower British Columbia since Sunday night, where "atmospheric river" rains have flooded out whole towns, caused landslides, highway washouts, and much more---- even at high, mountainous elevations. Entire total of November annual average rainfall (1991 to present) in one area happened in less than 48 hours, and it's still happening. This is the same area where all of August was H-O-T and fires ranged throughout for the entire month..... one town totally burned to the ground, hundreds of thousands of acres turned into ash and cinders, and losses in the many millions. ONLY if you're interested.... here are some video clips from different parts of the lower SE part of the province, fr4om many different elevations. https://globalnews.ca/news/8375787/b-c-floods-photos-videos-roads-washed-away-cars-submerged-debris/ https://globalnews.ca/news/8374573/people-trapped-vehicles-agassiz-highways-flooding/ https://globalnews.ca/news/8376358/vancouver-island-storm-malahat-closed/ https://globalnews.ca/news/8375493/runaway-barge-english-bay/

  28. I hope you don't think both sides of this issue have been given anything near equal and unbiased coverage in the MSM. It is pretty obvious those who get their "news" only from these sources are oblivious to the rather vigorous debate in scientific circles around global climate and its inevitable change, let alone what some nations can do about it while the greatest polluters roll on unchecked. Fully three fourths of the public NOB when polled consistently place little credibility in these sources these days. Perhaps some here might want to take note. Anyway, it will be interesting to see if the year end data confirms the feeling it has been cloudier, wetter and cooler around here than long time averages. It sure feels that way.

  31. Seems like they taketh away more than they giveth, EVERY TIME !! I dropped Part B shortly after we moved here. Even with several short hospitalizations and numerous doctor bills along the way since 2004, we're way ahead. The problem I saw was finding a doctor who would take a new Medicare patient in the U.S. and the expense of getting there and staying while the problem was taken care of. I've been happy with my care in Mexico.

  32. What can I say except OOPS? For those of us who are not inclined to drive to Guad for Costco needs, there is a service available which I have happily used for several years now. They take your order on Sundays from their website listing the Costco products and deliver it to your door on Wednesday or Thursday. Reasonable fees. Lakeside-SS.com

  33. Thank you Brandol, what really discouraged us was her racist attitude towards her own community. A professional hairstylist knows that product brands are not designed "just for foreigners" this was clear discrimination. She said her products are only for foreigners not for "Latin hair". I found the same brand of products in other salons in Guadalajara that colour any type of hair. As foreigners we want to contribute something positive to the Mexican community during our stay and racism is unacceptable, it makes me very sad that in this day and age we are still witnessing this behaviour and coming from people of a discriminated race.

  34. A friend of mine recommended this place so I tried to get an appointment and because I spoke perfect Spanish my appointment was declined. I obviously didn't know this at the time, so I went in person with my friend who's from Mexico and we encountered a very disappointing attitude, as soon as we asked the owner about pricing for colour and haircuts she said she doesn't work with "latin hair" as in she doesn't want Mexican clients. Very sad to see this coming from a Mexican business in Mexico! I am personally from Canada but because I speak good Spanish and was with my friend she treated us like we were leppers and then quoted a ridiculous amount so we wouldn't go... 750 pesos for a haircut and 5 thousand pesos for highlights. Please don't support these types of businesses, discrimination is not ok!
