  4. Gentlemen, and Ladies too... Earlier today I was in Farmacia Guadalajara (Ajijic) and, on my way out I decided I would go in the new store next to it. This is a new hardware store called Just Tools. I was very much impressed by the look and inventory in the store. So much so, that I walked out with a new hose, a new saw, and new gloves for working in the garden. If you have not already been there, check it out. I can see that I will be shopping there frequently in the future.

  7. I am about to order gas. I last filled my 180 litre tank in December of 2019. Yes, 2019. I have an on demand water heater which has no tank and no pilot light. It lights via piezo ignition automatically when the hot water tap is turned on. It requires two DD batteries. I have changed them once since installing the heater in 2016. And I cook using the stovetop... but have an electric countertop oven. No worries there either since I have 5 solar panels and my electric bill has been zero since March of 2018.

  9. Panchos is superior especially when it comes to customer service. As an example they brought in an import Czech cerveza for me even though it wasn't part of their inventory Pancho and Superlake will have their parking full and GG will have 1 or 2 cars in front and sometimes none. That tells ya something. They made a decision to kick their customers in Chapala to the curb and not stock it like they used to. It had good service.

  13. What previous posts states are true. I myself went to one of those schools. It was a hoot. I loved it. Only me and one other were the only guys. At first I thought I was in over my head. The Doctor spoke English so was helpful after class plus, every lady I sat next to were a big help. i.e. when I looked lost I got a polite elbow in my ribs and directed to the correct page. Everyone in my class treated me so well and helped all they could. Even though I was the only gringo there. I stood out in a funny way. I was treated like a human being nothing special or nothing less. What you learn is first aid and CPR. The first chapter teaches us we are not Doctors not paramedic just treat the person till the real professionals arrived. You learn to inject, bandage wounds, IVs etc. Plus part of passing the class you have spend time working for a Clinic or the Res Cross. Now caring for an elderly is in the DNA of Mexican people. So you learn the basics which is good. For me just being around 30 or so wonderful caring, loving people was an experience I would not trade. To some it up if you need a caregiver please consider on of these people.

  14. Retired RN here. I wouldn’t have hired myself right out of school. All I knew was theoretical and what I practiced under direct supervision. After being hired 2-3 months later I picked up the rhythm of the job and later I was able to start making my own decisions.

  15. That entire information page needs some dusting off. Dial-Up!!! And no mention was made of Cable Internet....

  16. Tom Barsanti needs to update that information since no mention is made of TotalPlay which is, handsdown, the best service available. Yes, you can get internet only with TotalPlay... click on the box you want ... like "INTERNET" ... Internet, Television and Telephony Packages for Casa | Totalplay I would never give up my Telmex landline. When the electricity is out, you can plug an old fashioned i.d.i.o.t phone directly into the jack and it works. Yes, I have a cell phone as well but like the back up.

  19. it is easy to say when you are not affected by the mess not to pass judgement but after being dumped on the side of the road kms from any transportation sometimes in storms as the night comes you quickly learn how not to sympathize with the students and their teachers. You do not have these problems in Chapala . The 60 s are a long time ago..and left me with no sympathy for rioters. I was in my 3rd year at the Sorbonne in 68 so I remember May 68 and the warehouse where i worked in Los Angeles was burned down during the Rodney King riots so I have seen a few riots and I still do not sympathize with rioters.

  21. The rural school in the southern States are a plague. The teachers and students run wild for all kinds of reasons. Destroy property and riots because their friend get arrested. .., the students Who are god should be given good scholarships and those school should be closed down.

  23. Harry, Having direct contact is good advice. But many people don't know a "real" licensed nurse from a nurse.
    1 point
  24. The term Nurses is used differently here than in the US. A nurse aide ( who may not have any formal education is called a nurse.) There are programs that will give certificates for nurse aides . Still called nurses. Then there is the second level of formally educated persons called General nurses. ( usually educated in places like Guad about 2yrs. .) Finally you have the college educated LICENSED nurses.( usually 4-5 yrs of college education . If someone needs a care giver, they should find out what education and experience they have. If one needs just shopping , cooking and maybe hygiene, this isn't too much of an issue. If one needs more assistance like injections, ambulation etc. or even how to relate to someone with dementia then you need to check the skill level and experience. I have heard directly someone say the vet told me how to give an injection to my dog. Really not someone you want giving you insulin. Things are very different here so use some caution. 25. Posting tutorial 101: The title of the post should make the topic clear. "Stores selling non-alcoholic beer?", not "Where to buy".
