  1. Reminds me of your words last year on this web board..."the kung fu virus is the same virus as the common cold,,,more people die of the flu every year than Covid,,, it will all go away tomorrow", now 612,000 dead Americans and millions in the world. I think I will pass on your opinion this time.

  2. Currently the states with the highest rates of Covid infection seem to be those with reduced focus on mask wearing, lockdowns, vaccinations, and controlling group activities like sporting events. I know that wearing a mask is not a perfect answer. Neither is a vaccination or never being in a large crowd or staying off of public transportation. Washing hands frequently is fine but won't protect against all transmission of viruses. But I tend to believe that we all should try to be part of a solution rather than being part of the problem. Delta and other variants are developing and spreading in part because of relaxed efforts to control Covid. ER's are filling up in parts of Texas. Kids are starting to get sick in larger numbers. Folks who have been vaccinated are still getting ill and spreading it to others without being aware. The lockdowns and related efforts are taking a horrible toll on normal life in many ways but to pretend there isn't a problem only makes the problem drag on longer. I sure hope this isn't the new normal but it will be if there isn't a unified effort. We are learning as we go along and "facts" change as new evidence emerges. As individuals we have to take personal responsibility for our own health and safety and sometimes it is inconvenient. More so if we care about others. That is just the way it is for now...hopefully it will change for the better soon. Alan

  5. Sadly, not on this, not on chocolate bars, not on vaccinations, not on lake levels, not on fish, not on anything. Asking for advice, and then telling almost every responder that you know more than they do, is not a way forward.

  6. This and your other earlier replies are the reason why yous should be doing this search by yourself.... because individuals will always have personal likes/dislikes/wants/needs etc. and you don't seem to want to agree with anyone else on this.

  7. You do make some valid points, but then you feel you need to put a stick into the eye of others by ending with a bias melodramatic meme.

  8. This issue of "truth, facts" is really getting worrisome. I would hate to think that we have members who believe that the holocaust did not happen, just fake news! But if we do not believe our respective government's for presenting the facts from any event or trials, what are the other alternatives Could we all agree the Covid-19 is present and if infected is very dangerous to your health At the start of the Pandemic the hospital, health systems were overwhelmed So solutions are offered and the problem starts to be under control I am trying to find an appropriate word...maybe Faith...or Trust...in the respective government's and pharmaceutical companies to present data, solutions, and for the respective decision makers to do what is best with the recommendations available . For myself I am very happy to go on a cruise where the rules are 100% of the crew are vaccinated and 95% of the customers must be vaccinated We are entering another dimension of how best to live with this new danger and maybe our lifestyle will be dramatically altered in a way we never expected

  10. I totally agree Kiko. Thanks. I am being short shifted on reactions again so I guess I'll just have to post MORE replies. It wastes bandwidth but if it's the only way to let my opinion be known, so be it.

  11. I do agree with one of the statements made earlier in this post -- that the world would be a much different place if people were actually required to read reference materials themselves before citing them or criticizing them on social media.

  12. dvinton, you would only need a 52 in front of the number if your phone card is from outside the country. And no Whatsapp number will appear unless: they call you first, or you have the number registered as a Contact on your phone.

  16. And your fluffing it off like it's a big joke REALLY isn't helping at all. I get the Reuters Health Report sent to me every single day. What's going on in the WORLD is horrifying. Try expanding your own horizons.

  17. Unless you have the percentage of accurately diagnosed that were hospitalized, there is no way to compare the relatively small data from Mass with anything else. And compounding this problem is a lot of faulty testing. I see now the PCR test is being dropped because, guess what, is can't separate covid from flu. No, many of us do not believe government much these days. The alternative is to be really well informed. That almost dictates one ignores the U.S. media.. What is obvious is a climate of fear and hysteria has been generated by government and media. This has been very destructive of credibility. https://www.brookings.edu/research/how-misinformation-is-distorting-covid-policies-and-behaviors/

  19. Dont'cha love the way the canned, boxed and bottle stuff frustrates us label readers by having the ingredients in such small print that the shopper has to carry a magnifying glass in order to read them? I do, but a handy shortcut is to reject anything with more than a few lines.

  20. There is no government hospital in Chapala. Possibly in the future as it was a campaign promise of the newly elected mayor. The federal website lists hospital occupancy as of July 30 Jalisco at 53.34% and beds with ventilators at 39.70% Shows Jocotepec at general occupancy of 60% and zero on ventilators on July 30 Maps of hospitals beds with ventilator occupation as of July 30 below

  23. MSG is one of the first things that I discovered I reacted to in an allergic manner. Not only the headache and stiff neck but the face/eyes and nose swell also. Not fun. YMMV. I really try and avoid it but it's getting harder because of the myriad ways of naming it. Basically, you can't eat anything pre-prepared or out of a box or out of a can or bottle. Honestly it sucks.

  24. The list shown re MSG must be the reason so many food labels proudly claim their products don't contain any. 🙃

  25. If they do then they can use less salt. 1. Glutamate is the purest taste of umami, the fifth basic taste. Umami taste receptors have a special affinity for free glutamate. 2. We consume between 10g and 20g of glutamate from our diet, of which glutamate from seasoning (monosodium glutamate) or condiments is less than 10%. 3. What is MSG (monosodium glutamate)? It is the sodium salt of glutamate, an amino acid found abundantly in protein. 4. MSG brings nothing new to the diet. The body treats glutamate in exactly the same way whether comes from the food we eat or is added as seasoning. 5. Glutamate is important for healthy metabolism; however, most of the dietary glutamate we consume is used as fuel by the cells of the digestive system. 6. Increasing the umami taste in food by increasing the level of free glutamate can result in reduced sodium (salt) and fat-reduced recipes which still taste satisfying. 7. In recipes, replacing salt with some MSG will reduce the sodium content, as MSG has two-thirds less sodium than table salt. 8. Only a small amount of added glutamate is required to optimize umami taste; using more won’t do you any harm but, as with salt, the food might not taste as good. 9. The extensive body of research which exists about glutamate has been reviewed by independent scientists and regulatory authorities around the world — all have found MSG to be safe. 10. Numerous well-conducted scientific studies have failed to show a connection between MSG and adverse health effects. In fact, MSG gives the benefit of umami taste.

  29. This pandemic has provided a very steep learning curve with information coming from every corner of the globe. I stand firmly on the side of science but acknowledge that information will still be forthcoming long after most of us aren't here to debate it. There is a youtube video from early in the pandemic showing the difference in growth of bacteria on agar plates from a person coughing without a mask and coughing with a mask. The difference is remarkable and it's a common sense "show me, I'm from Missouri" approach. (shorter video of this is the last in this post). This is common sense to me. As is, 1) wearing the mask properly 2) wearing a clean mask 3) keeping your distance 4) properly disinfecting hands 5) getting vaccinated. 30. After being exposed, changing the topic is called diversion. The point is censorship and you were wrong. Again. I'll bet not a one of you is aware of this highly referenced piece nor the rigorous documentation behind it. And I'll bet none of you will read it because you really aren't interested in learning anything new or considering the possibility you've been had. https://www.aier.org/article/the-cdcs-mask-mandate-study-debunked/ And don't give me your usual lazy ad hom BS. Click on the references and read them and their sources.

  35. Last time I checked, no one had God given rights or constitutional rights or any other kind of rights to put other people's lives and health at risk. Hospitals are in serious trouble because too many people can't afford to pay the bills or the co-pays and are filing for medical bankruptcy. Again, being double vaccinated means you will get less sick. So quit whining and wear the darn mask, social distance and get over yourself.
    1 point
  36. Correct... as far as it goes. BUT... what everyone needs to get thru' their thick skulls is double-vaccinated people can spread ANY variant... AND they can (not necessarily will) still get sick from any of them!!! They just won't get "as" sick.

  37. No, but it is a big city with big city prices and a burgeoning upper class. It had wealthy businessmen and moguls a hundred years ago, when lakeside was just a country fishing village. I can't imagine how the poor in the neglected barrios even survive.

  38. Maybe I'm crazy but I would simply tell him what I wanted done and when he finished I would ask "Cuanto hoy?" Whatever he said I would pay with a smile and then if I felt it was fair I would continue to use him, the same way, unless or until I began to feel cheated. I almost can't believe anyone is asking such a broad, open ended question as this here. As mudgirl said, who can say how much work is involved (or perhaps, how little).

  39. An hour??? I have a father and son come to my large property here in lower SAT once a week, and pay them $500 pesos a week for about 2.5 hours of work. They have their own equipment and pay for the gas. I gave them a raise a few years ago because of the higher gas prices. During the rainy season they have more work because of the grass growing but they also keep busy in the non rainy season with bougainvilleas, tree and bush trimming and always raking the leaves. The wife/mother as well as daughter and aunt (3 Amigas) are my maids bi-weekly at the same price and time here. Works for me with this family for over 10 years now!
