  1. This thread has gone from a pity party to a pizzin' match. Always the same cast.

  2. Please keep in mind that Mexico has a limited supply of vaccine, unlike the US. Everyone who gets a 3rd shot is taking vaccine away from someone who needs to get a first shot. Wait until the vaccine is available from private clinics.

  6. I recently acquired a home in Chapala with a mature avocado tree in the back yard that is producing a large quantity of fruit. I want to make sure that the crop does not go to waste; however, I know nothing about how to attend to the tree. Can anyone here advise me on how to determine when it's the right time is to harvest the fruit? (By the looks of things, I'm guessing it should be fairly soon.) And should all of the avocados be harvested around the same timeframe before they spoil? Might there be anything else I should be considering doing around now to protect crop? Many thanks.

  8. There is a pet store on Francisco Madero that sells live geckos, lizards and eggs. I miss them too, but I don't think our landlord would appreciate us introducing them to our house.

  9. https://harvesttotable.com/how-to-plant-grow-and-harvest-avocados/ This site is quite informative about harvesting, and a few others things. Your photo looks a lot like the Hass variety, and if this is the case, fruit can be left on the tree as long as 8 months, picked a few at a time, brought indoors, wrapped in newspaper, and checked daily. Or you can store in the fridge for quite some time and then ripen at your schedule. There is, however, a time limit after which fruits will not be as tasty. DO NOT pick all at once!! The one thing you really need to know is they are shallow rooted and if you overwater you can kill them. Been there. Done that.(Well, landlord's handyman did.... but I would have stopped him sooner if I'd known) Enjoy!!

  10. B 12 shots - easy to do at home. Just get the B 12 liquid (Cyanocobalamin Injection, usually comes in a 10 ml small bottle) and a IM syringe (get 10 of them). 3 ml size, 25 G x 1 inch (.5mm x 25mm metric) Each dose / shot is typically 1 ml, takes 30 sec to do at home.

  11. Great link! BTW, I am streaming from my laptop to my 55 inch Samsung TV using the Actiontec (available on Amazon) which simply plugs into the HDMI port on the TV. If you want the cheapest way to get it from your laptop, then you just need an HDMI cable going from the HDMI outlet on your laptop to the HDMI outlet on the back of your TV. That's what I started with years ago and I bought it at Steren's.

  14. Kind of funny but I'll say try leaving a light on at night for them Idea is the light attracts moths and moths attract lizards. Not a yellow bug light but a plain white light. Possibly an LED light would work okay not sucking up power. Where I live now an invasive species of lizards from Puerto Rico eats other lizards and their eggs. Seems the geckos numbers are down. But I did see a roach come out of the grass onto the porch the other day and thought cock-a-roach you are in trouble. Then like lightning one of the lizards bolted past me scooping the roach like heck no this roach is my meal going over to a planter to hide with his prey that was bigger than him. One thing I've noticed from some of the geckos that always hide is when I turn the lights out they'll give that laugh sort of call sometimes. Not sure if it means good night or what. Here some of the windows are jalousie windows with the screen on the inside with the wood jalousie's cracked so lizards have a hunting grounds where moths are semi trapped. That's where I get the gecko laughs from most of the time. Any creatures need water so a plastic planters base can double as a watering pace for the lizards. Figures moths give them dry mouths I'm nuts so I put low sugar strawberry jam out for some Day lizard that are green with red spots.stripes on their backs. I've got an army of those guys now around 15 or more just by the gate where i feed them. They run amuck in the house too not bothering the rare geckos. The weirdest lizard breed we have has like a dinosaur fin on his back. Still can't find any info on them. Enough rambling.

  16. Airlines usually list the FMM card as a tourist tax when looking at the list of charges. I have yet to see it listed as a non-resident fee or a non-citzen fee.

  17. Odds of getting Pfizer, not good. They probably will be giving 2nd AZ shots in 2 or 3 weeks in Chapala. No way of knowing if they will open it up to everyone over 50 again or just those who already received their first jabs. Depends on how much vaccine they get. If you want Pfizer, you will need to get both shots in Texas.

  19. Airlines, by law, have to only consider the passport passengers are entering another country under and not any residency a passenger has. It is not illegal or unethnical only the law. What is illegal is falsifying an entry FMM form stating you are a Mexican citizen to save $30 dollars. Very bad advice.

  23. That glyphosate biodegrades fully was/is an unfortunate obfuscation promoted by Monsanto/Bayer. It destroys or inhibits many beneficial soil microorganisms. Perhaps worse it has become a popular 'tool' of many large grain farmers in Canada and the US to hasten senescence making for a timely harvest. Because of this, glyphosate is detectable in many vegetable oils (especially canola) and virtually all cereals. Nice eh?

  25. We havent experience bird or bug damage, unlike mangos ,peaches and spagetti squash. For those you can buy over the internet, very fine mesh nylon mesh bags with a pull tie. These stop stop insects and varmints. The leaves of avocado are also used in some Mexican dishes. https://www.amazon.com/mesh-bags-drawstring/s?k=mesh+bags+drawstring

  26. You can harvest them when they are full sized but hard. They will ripen off the tree. Give them away to your friends and neighbors if you have too many. Or you can mash the ripe fruit, add a little lemon or limon juice and freeze in usable portions.

  27. Most certainly, like they do here in Joco. Un-helmeted mom and dad with 2 little ones wedged between them blasting down the streets "a toda maquina"! Crazy! A few months ago the owner of the best tacos in Joco crashed his bike which split him in half. He lay on the street with spilt viscera waiting for over an hour for the "bomberos" to arrive. First person on the scene and who called the bomberos said he was conscious and talking for quite some time but finally bled out. Talk about terrible! I can't figure out why the bomberos took theirs sweet time! There are 2 or 3 ambulances parked at the clinic that they never seem to want to use. And they appear to be in good functioning condition. Guess they don't want to get them dirty? I hear the Cruz Roja in Chapala is top not notch though. Just don't have an accident in Joco I guess the is lesson here. Life doesn't seem to have too much value here sometimes. One of the drawbacks of living here.

  28. Interesting. I don't spend my spare time trying to verify the science behind vaccinations. So why do some people spend hours finding isolated reports trying to debunk the science? What is there to gain? What a waste of time.

  33. There is never a way to know. The guy who used to be the guard there (now retired) told me it depends on demand at all the machines that company services (Guad included), what they think will be needed and when, IF they actually perform as expected (he would sometimes tell me "xxx hours" and when I went back "not yet.......much later"......) Those delays were not under anyone's control out here altho' I think he had a little more info since he was the one there with the big gun! (they are safe, they wear face masks..☺️) WHAT has that got to do with this post?????

  36. What is too funny, you only insult women, as proven on this very thread. Must be the experience you had insulting a local cancer patient who had his veteran son, with PTSD, visiting him. They attended a pool party and some drunk started calling his son "a babykiller" and "a coward". The son pushed the drunk in the pool. You publicly supported the drunk, and they offered to pay you a visit to discuss it. Ha ha, you hid in your house for a whole week like a baby bunny, and hired a so called bodygaurd. Maybe discuss this with your mental therapist? Bubba rarely makes spelling mistakes.
