  1. OK... enough already!! To those who think it might be repairable...Ferret, Curmudgeon, Mainecoons, and Johanson and anyone else who wants to leap into the fray.... and knowing I'm certainly not infallible, especially with anything remotely tech-related: Have I got a deal for you! Come and get it (bring something to wrap it in) along with manual and remote (batteries included). Goes to first one in the door. Take it to SJC. IF the guy thinks he can repair it...... (1) pay the piper and get yourself a "free" 55 inch flat screen Smart TV (2) same as # 1 but be a hero and donate it to a person/family/ ?? of your choice (3) tell the guy to go ahead and fix in on HIS dime, and then HE can either keep it for himself/family or give it away to a needy person/family (SJC certainly not lacking in that category). Hoping somebody can come out a winner in this.🤞 Just don't ever bring it back 🤣 376 766 3580 to arrange (phone has answering machine)

  2. In the interest of all moving along, have copied/slightly altered this from last night's post in case someone interested misses same. To those who think it might be repairable...Ferret, Curmudgeon, Mainecoons, and Johanson and anyone else who wants to leap into the fray.... and knowing I'm certainly not infallible, especially with anything remotely tech-related: (my tech knowledge could fit in a thimble and still have room for a cup of tea 😉) Have I got a deal for you! 3. Marco, and his charming and lovely wife, were riding his motocycle when they were rear ended at the Walmart entrance mess. The bike was totalled and they spent the night in hospital. The driver of the vehicle says he cannot pay to replace the bike, and has no insurance. So Marcos has come up with an ingenious plan to raise the 18,000 pesos he needs for another motorcycle, which he uses for delivery. Right now, he is borrowing a friend's bike. The deal is you pay 1,000 pesos, he records your name and deducts any meals you purchased at El Rey Taco. Tonight the special is grilled garlic shrimp, with cob corn, and something else tasty - or, slow cooked beef cubes cooked in a French style like Bournigon, with generous sides. Great food at great prices. His Father is a professional Chef from France and he has gone to a trade school for a Chef certificate, worked all over Mexico, but Chapala always draws him back. Super nice young couple.

  7. OP wants it for INCOMING calls where the caller thinks the number (and OP) are in the US. There are some US banks and other financial institutions that want to send security codes to US phone numbers, and there have been reports in other threads that VOIP numbers do not always work.

  9. I thought this forum existed for discussions about topics that affect us here at lakeside. This topic does that. When I used the term "new money" it was meant to be sarcastic. There is no new money from this little scam. All of the money will just come out of the legitimate economy someplace. People only have so much to spend and that money could be spent over and over as it circulates through many hands. The money collected by transitos will be spent that way. But the money collected by the government and some German company who sets up these stations is likely gone, for the most part. That's about fifty million dollars a year taken out of the local economy and that represents perhaps ten times that much of economic activity lost as that money won't circulate. Those who don't like the topic and think it is a waste of time should also not waste our time posting complaints about it...maybe just go do something else. Alan

  12. When you hit decline the ATM automatically processes your withdrawal using either Mastercard or Visas exchange rate which you can check online before you go to the ATM.

  15. When they 'suggest' a rate, they show one the rate they are offering. If one hits the 'Decline' button on that low rate, which is always a much worse rate, the ATM moves on to the daily "VISA" rate. I *think* that one has to answer one more question unrelated to the rate to finally get their pesos.

  18. According to the Reporter, there are three testing stations each with four lanes. It takes fifteen minutes to test each car meaning four per hour each lane. 4X4 is sixteen cars per hour at each station. 16X3 is 48 cars per hour. If they are open 12 hours a day that is 576 cars per day. If there are 177,000 cars with plate ending in "7" then, if they are open Sundays also, it will take them 308 days just to get the first number done. They need to get busy with new stations or this will soon become another income stream for Transito cops asking for mordidas. They should also exempt car models newer than 2011 models. Those cars will all do better than the minimum test standards and the state knows it. But that would cut into the revenue stream they have created with the testing. What will the "new money" be spent on? Probably not on road work, trash collection, sewer and treatment plants, etc. I'm guessing it will just disappear into the money funnel that is government everywhere. There might be a slight improvement in air quality but they could achieve the same improvement by only targeting the worst offenders by impounding vehicles with visible smoke coming from the tailpipe. 19. A Tourist visa for the USA is valid for10 years. You are allowed 180 says a year in the US. At this time the only entry is by plane. If some is granted a temporary work visa than a land entry is allowed to travel to a specific job.

  22. Yes, I arrived today/Friday, July 16th at 11:45 am. I paid inside at the Pharmacy and went to the little trailer in the parking lot. They were open and did my test. I received the results in an hour and 45 minutes via email. Still the same low price of $480 something pesos. Safe travels, Val. :)

  27. You can take it to the TV repair service in San Juan Cosala. Jose Teleservicios Calvario. On the highway, almost directly below the cell tower on the lakeside. 387-761-0379. My tv had the same problem but they couldn't repair it in a satisfactory manner (aka picture but very bad resolution). imho, time to upgrade if at all possible.

  28. This is NOT the f&%$ing flu!!! Just read an article on the local Covid forum about the polio epidemic/iron lungs/after effects on those who survived. The difference between then and now is that everyone got the vaccine to eradicate the problem. "No one is safe until we are all safe". Sigh.

  29. This is about more than just me. A vaccinated population is the only way to beat this pandemic. Otherwise it will hang on for years, overwhelming the healthcare system and sickening and killing more and more people. The long term side effects for Covid are too often ignored. Educating the un-vaccinated is critical at this juncture IMHO.

  30. Fully vaccinated does not mean immune. You could still be infected. Why take a chance, just because you may not get as sick or die? You can also still pass the infection. This can be bad for others who don't have as good an immune response. There is nothing wrong with being cautious, whether or not you are fed up with the routine. Because it just well may affect you, whatever you think.

  31. He has been my vet for about six years. I have dogs and cats. They love him. He does not order a bunch of expensive tests unless they are needed or sell expensive drugs and supplements. He will make house calls. He came to my house to put down my 16-year-old dog and was so kind and gentle. His prices are reasonable.
