  1. Marco, and his charming and lovely wife, were riding his motocycle when they were rear ended at the Walmart entrance mess. The bike was totalled and they spent the night in hospital. The driver of the vehicle says he cannot pay to replace the bike, and has no insurance. So Marcos has come up with an ingenious plan to raise the 18,000 pesos he needs for another motorcycle, which he uses for delivery. Right now, he is borrowing a friend's bike. The deal is you pay 1,000 pesos, he records your name and deducts any meals you purchased at El Rey Taco. Tonight the special is grilled garlic shrimp, with cob corn, and something else tasty - or, slow cooked beef cubes cooked in a French style like Bournigon, with generous sides. Great food at great prices. His Father is a professional Chef from France and he has gone to a trade school for a Chef certificate, worked all over Mexico, but Chapala always draws him back. Super nice young couple.

  2. Yes, I arrived today/Friday, July 16th at 11:45 am. I paid inside at the Pharmacy and went to the little trailer in the parking lot. They were open and did my test. I received the results in an hour and 45 minutes via email. Still the same low price of $480 something pesos. Safe travels, Val. :)

  4. Juts to be clear for all.... you must accept the first thing offered... which is the cost they are charging for your use of that ATM. It's the second one you must reject... where they actually you figures re: what their conversion rate will be. Usually "decline" button is on the bottom left

  5. Thankyou, but in this case 2 knowledgeable techie friends talked me thru' some diagnostics and concluded the video "chip" (whatever) is fried. Dead forever. Bought a new one on MercadoLibre today.... excellent price as one-day-special. (Better than Amazon.mx)

  6. So true. My ATM fees worldwide are returned by my banks. The thing is to choose a bank that either has no branches or very few branches and none of their own ATM's . Ally Bank, Schwab, Etrade, Fidelity, and many credit unions in the US offer ATM refunds, and 1% international exchange fees. Some are unlimited fee refunds, some have a monthly limit. https://financebuzz.com/no-international-atm-fees

  7. The little chonk of cutness has a new home! Thanks to everyone who took the time to read and care. During my very early morning walk, I stumbled over a puppy that was desperately trying to get my attention by clinging to my legs. He was wet, cold, and very hungry (he's now dry, warm and full). We absolutely can't keep another dog, so if anyone would like a little chonk of cuteness, please contact me at 332-617-3588. He is your typical mix and should grow to be a medium-ish/slightly larger sized dog (but this is just a guess). (sorry, not the best pics)

  10. Whew......great news! Thanks @thevalerieleigh for posting this! We have used Soriana as well as Go Labs and Ajijic Clinic. Soriana is best in both service and price.

  15. I was in email discussion with the verification site and they advised that it IS mandatory if you are a resident of GDL and surrounding environs OR if you made frequent trips into those areas. As far as lakeside goes, stay tuned as once the verification sites in your local area are set up THEN ALL vehicles (no matter where is it plated) will be required to have emissions testing done.

  17. Luz is the best. Exam is free so no risk. We have never had exams this thorough anywhere. Good Covid precautions as well. Available every Thursday at LCS. She takes complete notes and reminded me that she recommended a particular eye drop in February of 2018. She just spent over an hour with my wife who has a very high minus and a myriad of other visual issues. After this lengthy exam she told her that her eyes had not changed and that her existing glasses were fine no need for a change unless she wanted an update. No pressure to buy anything, just an honest exam and presentation of fact. She is fluent and answers her phone except when she is driving.

  18. Yikes! I'm not sure what to think. I just called Soriana and asked to be transferred to the Pharmacy. I spoke with a lady there who said the testing is open today until 4:30 pm. She went on to say that if I want the results today, I need to be tested before 1 pm. If tested between 1 pm-4:30pm, the results will be sent tomorrow. I hope when I arrive later this morning they are actually open. Val :)

  20. I have had two pairs of prescription (by an ophthalmologist) glasses made at the small shop opposite Plaza Bugambilias. Perfect. My hubby had more pairs than that and they were also perfect. Nice choice of frames, excellent service, reasonable price. Dr. Pinto, otoh, managed to screw up my prescription and would not fix them without another charge. Coming from the east, turn up onto the lateral at Z gas. They are the first store in the small strip of four stores and parking is right in front. Do NOT go on a Wednesday because of the Tiangis.

  21. Each to his/her own. I am grateful for the use of ATM's here in Mexico since there weren't any when we moved down. Standing in line at a bank to get money is a waste of my time. Those machines and their operating costs ain't cheap either. And, do I really want to change banks when EVERYTHING is set up electronically in the bank that I've been dealing with since I was 28 years old? Nope. I am willing to pay the $3.00 Canadian for each withdrawal... especially seeing as how there are no other monthly banking charges on my account. YMMV.

  22. Jose Gabriel Cardona Hijar. Chapala, Hidalgo #222 Tel: 331 395 0931. About 1/3 up on the right from the lights. Small, hard to park. As far as I know, the store in the strip just east of the Telmex office is the same people. Don't know the name, can't describe the location much better. Across the highway from Plaza Bugambilias. You know where Telmex is, I'm sure. Eye exam, prescriptions, frames, coatings, bi and tri, who knows what else. I have no idea what else either is capable of, but they are at least local.

  24. I have no contract or installation fee (maybe because I got it early). For the promotion, I changed to 500/500 which replaced my double-speed promo (40 Mbps -> 80 Mbps) before I could activate it. Oh well -- the promo speeds were not as important to me as getting the fastest. Switch to 500 Mbps while I am in Mexico, switch to 40 Mbps when back in Canada, with just a single WhatsApp conversation. Currently, I'm going to be back in Canada shortly now that I am Pfizer-vaccinated (courtesy two side trip to USA), so I'll be testing the speed-downgrade shortly. TotalPlay can just press a button remotely to change your Internet speed!

  25. Try Salvador about 1/2 block from the Ajijic plaza on the left side. Parking lot a couple of doors to the west and a sidewalk that's as good as you're going to get.

  26. I sure looks real. But I'm not sure a cocodrilo would swim that distance without diving for a time and returning to the surface. Next time, someone should throw a rock into the water to see if it reacts. I'd be interested in seeing that.

  27. FYI, there are no more Covid tests being performed in the Soriana parking lot in Chapala. A sign says suspended until further notice. Chopo in Riberas also says they don't do tests anymore even though the place is filled with signs touting all choices. Our friends walked from Chopo to Go Lab and got the test for $900 pesos. There were also people at the Ajijic Clinic between 11 and 12 getting a test. Same price.

  28. I have both a MC debit card with Etrade, and a Visa debit card with Fidelity. Both charge 1% foreign exchange rate. Capitol one is 0% If your bank is charging 3.25% foreign exchange fee than you could change to an bank that offers better such as Ally Bank which is FDIC insured and only does business on-line. Their fee is 1% Rather than checking 3rd party websites the most accurate way to know what to expect is using Visa and Mastercard's calculator because they will be doing the actual transaction. https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/personal/get-support/convert-currency.html https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html/

  30. I know many Mexicans from Chiapas who just left for the States legally. Companies or agents offered them jobs and visas with contract for 6 months to go and pick fruit and work in orchards in Florida... A all bunch of them left last week for MOnterrey. Another bunch left for Hermosillo. I do not know where these guys were headed but they all had contracts and none of them were vaccinated.
