  1. My neighbor, and please keep them. ☺️

  2. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I really don't see Ajijic as a Pueblo Magico when compared to others.

  3. Gee, we must have picked the one peaceful night to visit. Enjoyed good seafood supper near centro, and room service breakfast at the pet-friendly hotel.

  4. It is a well traveled route, and you should expect nothing out of the ordinary. Just decide how far you want to drive each day and pick an overnight location, as there are many choices. The last time we used that route, we did it in two long days with an overnight in Culiacan.

  5. The problem is the posters that do not have where they are in their profile and do not bother to state where the problem is. I always assume they are in Ajijic because when you are in what you think is the only place to be, why bother.

  6. I have to say the last three days that I drove past, in both directions, all the drivers were most courteous; stopping to let traffic from all directions pass. Yes it was faster than when the lights were active. SunFan

  7. No cop, no lights at Walmart intersection at 9:30 this morning. Smooth as silk both directions through to Super Lakes area.

  8. New 2021 Regularization Program (Get legal if you overstayed your tourist visa) Immigration has been offering sporadic programs so that people who have overstayed their tourist visas can become legal. Many of these programs have been limited and come and gone. There is now an effort to offer the program nationwide. Details are still emerging as there is no official publication or law so each office has leeway to make some of their own rules about qualifying. Currently it is available in Jalisco so we can do it in Chapala and Guadalajara and we will nail down the guidelines in the next few days. It appears that the first requirement is for people to have an expired visa which was issued in 2019 or earlier. More to come as we verify it.

  9. Well, the traffic control lights at the intersection of the carretera and libramiento have been off for a few days. Guess what! No problems with traffic jams, accidents, and no transito cops trying to direct traffic or stopping cars to ask for bribes when they can't figure out the WalMart entrance. People seem to be careful and polite and Mexican anarchy proves once again to mostly function OK if you can keep government and other "experts" out of the situation. Think how many uncontrolled intersections are in our area and folks make them work fine on their own. In several places in Europe, traffic controls are being removed and results are similar. People enter the intersections with caution, they let pedestrians cross, and traffic flows much easier. I like to think somebody is looking at that mess and trying to decide how to best change (and hopefully improve) that intersection. I could be wrong...it could just be a faulty light controller. Alan

  10. IMHO, it is the same chronic bitching about everything the government does locally. Can´t you people ever see anything good in the evolution of events and enjoy what we have instead of being constantly negative?

  11. Photo of final results posted on FB. A small army ran for Presidente. Must be pretty lucrative if one wins.

  12. BeanRoy-"Right now it's tricky at Allen W. Lloyd for those trying to get out or across, because for some reason drivers are not paying attention there". We live on Allen W Lloyd and without the light it is very difficult sometimes mainly trying to turn left. If only people would just be courteous and let you out.

  13. Has anyone watched a semituck trying to exit Walmart at the West light and turning east? It's a slow motion train wreck!

  14. If El Jardine and other rest. bars, etc on the plaza are not allowed to use the space that they did occupy prior to construction the plaza will not be a place people would want to gather. The Ajijic plaza has always been a real focal point in Ajijic. The rest, bars, venders were always part of the plaza area draw. The old cast iron benches were great and maint. free, not to mention recycling them would be FREE! Don't get me started on Puebla Magico. Lakeside streets in constant state of disrepair, years long garbage pick-up problems, broken sidewalks and property owners allowed to let their street side building fronts go to hell. If some of Chapala's current rules are not working CHANGE THEM! Develop a plan, with resident input and implement It.

  16. A lot will depend on who sits on the local Puebla Mágico steering committee. If it ends up being run by developers, we're doomed.

  17. The only nice thing about the pueblo of Palenque are the ruins rhat are a few km away from the pueblo. The pueblo itself is pretty ugly

  20. All that was needed was the traffic light at the intersection to have a right turn arrow, left turn arrow and a turn arrow on the Walmart side. No need for the extra right turn lane. Just widen to another lane at the light. One lane for left, one for straight into Walmart, one for right turn.

  21. When the lights in Ajijic and La Floresta were all on flashing yellow one weekend a couple of years ago there was almost no backup. People were entering from the side streets without problem. When following weekend they were working normally the traffic was backed and it took forever to get through town.

  22. Pedro, your health is yours, so your lack of adverse effects from charcoal grilling doesn't necessarily contradict what has been found for others. Since I have a few serious health problems, I'm not going to engage in dining behavior based on your experience. The risks to health are one thing, but there also evidence that environmental damage results from charcoal grilling. As in all things, it's a matter of individual choices. As a long ago former heavy smoker, I am experiencing the sorry end results of that choice.

  23. If you google "health hazards of charcoal grilling" you'll find a number of articles on the tradofff for that cooking option. In my opinion, it's not worth it. If it's a good piece of meat or fish, it doesn't need to be "flame kissed" to be plenty tasty.

  24. There are multiple reports of Telmex being down in various areas, and you are saying no it's not? Can't wait to get out of here? Edited.

  25. Mazamitla and Tapalpa show what well run and cared for pueblo magicos can look like. The cynic in me after 13 years believes the Chapala politicians, regardless of label all of them IMO, got Ajijic designated just as another means to milk the town while doing little for it. The potholes proliferate and the trash piles up regardless of who sits in Chapala municipio hall. On top of that their latest milking scheme on the Ajijic Plaza is just cheapening it and destroying the character like they did to the Chapala plaza.
