  1. We have met the "them" and they are us.

  2. I quit reading when I saw, "There is not a single documented Covid infection anywhere in the world from casual outdoor interactions, such as walking past someone on a street or eating at a nearby table." Why anyone, much less a news publication, would use this absurd statement to justify anything is beyond me. It's not documented because it neigh impossible to document where anyone actually GOT the virus... at least not in any numbers that could possibly be used as a reference point. But we'll use that statement and hope that no one actually thinks about how misleading it is.

  3. Grampa and Grandma were sitting a the table. Grandma gets up suddenly, rolls up her newspaper and proceeds to slap Grandpa upside the head. He says, "What was that for?" Grandma says, "That's for 50 years of bad sex." Grandpa sits there muttering, rolls up his newspaper, and goes over and slaps Grandma upside the head. She says, "Now what's that for?" He says, "That's for knowing the difference."

  4. This is what you SAY. This is what you MEAN-- Please only post comments that completely agree with my theory that I will not encounter any problems crossing into or out of Mexico without a valid passport.

  5. Obviously, there are differing points of view on the right way to deal with this plague, and some are spending a lot of time finding authorities to back them up. The way I see it is: It's not going to harm anyone to wear a mask around others; not wearing one "could" be harmful to others. So, no matter who's right, I'll go along with the "official" position and wear the danged thing for the time being. I'm a lot more concerned about other matters, like the completely chaotic way the vaccinations here are being administered.

  6. OK I'm not taking any chances with this dose! In addition to the Expediente de Vacunacion and the Comprobante de Vacunacion and the CURP and the Permanante Visa I'm bringing copies of my Birth Certificate, Baptismal Certificate, High School Diploma, University Degree, Marriage License and just to be sure I've got a roll of self-adhesive Hologram stickers. Anything I've forgotten? SunFan

  8. Boca Mar, Benito Juarez 547 A, behind the mercado, not only offers fresh seafood, they will cook it for you too. I ordered a half kilo of coconut shrimp and now see how it should be made. They were in balls and void of a tail shell. Just the right size to eat with your hand. The order was more than two chowhounds could eat at a sitting. With side salad 155 MXN.

  9. So well got excited and printed out the Expediente as per Mopsy's instructions. FB video does NOT mention doing that. Anybody taking bets / odds on what happens tomorrow in Chapala?

  13. Not until October will private companies Worldwide be able to purchase vaccines as regulated by WHO because Covid-19 is officially a Worldwide pandemic. If you are offered one in Mexico for $1,500 pesos it will be saline solution.

  14. NO IT ISN'T. See the comment I made above. I was there today and experienced this. You do have to have the one you got, but you also must have this. It's a lot faster if you already have it in your hand and don't have to wait for them to print it out for you. I know because I had not printed it out.

  16. Mudgirl, I don't know how the weather is on the coast where you live, but for those of us that live on Lake Chapala, the first rains are truly a marvelously exciting and refreshing time to be at Lakeside. Remember that the last time we had a real rain it was around the first week of October of last year. Between then and now we've only had just a few light sprinkles here and there that you count on one hand. So yes, rain makes for an exciting conversation at the Lake.

  19. Interim Presidente Municipal just confirmed that the vaccines are on, starting Thursday May 13 and running through next Monday. The Sinovac lots are confirmed. Starting on Thursday: • alpha order by first letter of last name • only second doses of Sinovac • only people who got their first dose in Ajijic or Chapala • we have exact number of doses as first-shot people; no “new” people from other municipios • Parque de la Cristianía in Chapala is the sole location 8 am until daily doses are done—we have 400-600 per day Here’s the alpha schedule. Thursday only (first last name/apellido) A-E Fri only F-L Saturday only M-Q Sunday OFF No vaccinations are planned for Sunday Monday only R-Z You can only go on the day of your last name (apellido paterno); you will be turned away if not on your “name” day. Bring the confirmation of first doses; if you didn’t get it, there will be a location that can look it up for you with your CURP and federal registration. Three documents needed: your CURP, your first-dose confirmation, and your INE/Temporal/Permanente https://www.facebook.com/GobiernoDeChapala/videos/925030804964657

  21. So sorry. Hope much better tomorrow. We left at 8:30 Tuesday. Many cars in long lines. Took a long wait to get up to the triage tent. When we were finished there were longer lines waiting around 11.

  22. Perhaps this will help clear up so much confusion and help eliminate the incredible amount of misinformation that's been posted. On April 15th we received our 1st Pfizer shot in the El Salto location that is shown on the Jalisco Government posting We left Ajijic at 8:00am this morning arrived at the El Salto site (about 3 kms from the airport). Had our second shot of Pfizer at 10:00am (we were probably within the first 60 vaccinated which didn't commence until 9:10am. We were home in Ajijic at 11:05am. Documentary proof of both shots in hand and only 26 days between the two vaccinations. We have two sets of friends who attended the Cutlajomulco drive through site today for their second Pfizer shot this morning and their experience was much the same as ours (for time). They were quite suprised to see far fewer people than when they received their first vaccination. These two couples are long term seasonal use home owners in Ajijic but do not have a CURP number which didn't present a problem on either occasion. Same time frame between shots for our friends. The primary letter of their last name wasn't an issue. See following: https://www.jalisco.gob.mx/es/gobierno/comunicados/vacunacion-en-jalisco

  23. That only applied to people who do not have Permanente status and as a result do not have a CURP number. That was the case for those of our friends when they received their first shot of Pfizer. For those who have Permanente status their Permanente card was all they required, not their passports.

  24. Are you sure? My understanding is that you do not need your passport, just your visa. No one I know who got a shot needed to show a passport.

  28. Exactly. I was just spelling it out for everyone to understand the word comprobante. Because the word has not been used before in this thread. Oddly, the printable expediente has no record of the first shot. It contains only the name and CURP. https://mivacuna.salud.gob.mx/index.php

  29. I may be a newbie in Lakeside. But not a newbie on neighborhood social networking. It’s a VERY normal community social conversation. These are normal somewhere else too: * Lost chicken, pig, etc. * Porch pirates * Someone taking photos of my house * Someone parking in front of my mailbox * Someone knocking at my door * Heard gunshots?!

  34. On Friday, May 7th, the CDC approved certain types of at-home Covid tests for international air travelers into the US. These tests must be USDA approved and must include a Tele-Health aspect through which the person's identity can be verified and the test itself and its results can be viewed by the Tele-Health service provider. The provider will then issue a written result for the US-bound air traveler that the traveler can show at the airport. https://thepointsguy.com/news/cdc-allowing-at-home-tests/?utm_source=TPG Curated Daily Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2324095&utm_usr=c5baf6b03cf28350efc0c6146f5159a0b331688d243e4a4c00277fb2e3e07e6b&utm_msg=f6d42baf89de44bfbde21ad7a44362ed&utm_date=2021-05-11 The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its guidance and widened the kind of tests it will accept for international travelers looking to enter the country. On Friday, the CDC said that it’s updated its guidance to accept at-home COVID-19 tests for international travel to the U.S. As of Friday’s update, all travelers coming from international locations into the U.S. will be able to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test that was taken at home. Since Jan. 26, 2021, all travelers looking to enter the U.S. from abroad have been required to have proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before scheduled departure. While both a gold-standard PCR test as well as rapid antigen tests had been accepted as valid viral tests for entry, the CDC said that those taken at home were not sufficient. Now, however, travelers can take a self-administered COVID-19 test at home. They must still meet some specifications, however. Home tests have to be a SARS-CoV-2 viral test (either a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) or an antigen test) with Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Additionally, approved at-home tests must be completed using “a telehealth service affiliated with the manufacturer of the test that provides real-time supervision remotely through an audio and video connection.” The health authority must be able to see the traveler perform the test in order to certify it was taken correctly and the results are accurate. The telehealth service provider must confirm the person’s identity, as well as the result. They must then issue a report that meets the CDC’s order and the travel provider must be able to review and confirm the test result and match it to the traveler’s identity. Overall, this is a positive change for travelers who might otherwise have trouble sourcing a COVID-19 test in a foreign country where capabilities might not be as widely available. The option to take a test at home will allow travelers to pack a COVID-19 test in their bag and take it prior to traveling back to the U.S. after having performed it in front of a telehealth provider. “This is an encouraging step in facilitating the international travel process, while continuing to prioritize the safety and well-being of all travelers and employees seeking entry to the U.S.,” Airlines for America said of the change. While the CDC is making the testing requirement for international travel easier on return to the country, the agency still advises against international travel for travelers who aren’t fully vaccinated. “International travel poses additional risks and even fully vaccinated travelers are at increased risk for getting and possibly spreading new COVID-19 variants,” the CDC says on its website. “CDC recommends delaying international travel until you are fully vaccinated.”

  38. I don't disagree with your post, other than about grilling for one or two. I do it daily on my well-seasoned gas grill. And by "well-seasoned" I mean, rarely cleaned 😊 My grill heats up to 400 degrees in 5 minutes and with the lid down, holds that temperature with the knobs turned to low. I can grill a nice piece of salmon in about 10 minutes or a dozen shrimp in 5 minutes, without using a pan that needs washing. Now that the weather is warmer, rather than heat up my kitchen I also use the gas grill as an oven for reheating things like leftover pizza slices (really gets a good flavor).
