  1. Yep, just ask anyone from Texas, great place to go during a power outage too. 🤣🤣

  2. Obviously you care a great deal, for some unknown reason. I wasn't responding to you, I was responding to a specific post. Why can't you just ignore the posts that don't interest you, like most mature adults do? Are you now the arbiter of what constitutes a "valid contribution?" Do you think your post criticizing my post is a "valid contribution"?

  3. He makes no sense at all. Just likes to blather on. And just because a new something isn't expensive, that's a legitimate reason for throwing the old one away if it can be inexpensively fixed?

  4. Not everyone enjoys cooking, believe it or not. Has nothing to do with not thinking you deserve it. I would be quite happy to be able to live on air alone. I don't enjoy shopping for food, or thinking about what to cook or cooking. So because I have to eat, I choose to prepare food in a way that takes the least amount of time and involves the least amount of fuss. I cooked healthy dinners for me and my kids every night, 365 days a year, for 27 years. That was enough. I like growing food, not preparing it.

  5. Just how many people have died at your place so far? Sounds kinda scary 😳

  6. How many chillin garys are needed to change a light bulb?

  7. You mean like a 35 peso capacitor and 30 minutes of my time to change it out? Following your faulty advice, I would by now have added about 8 perfectly good fans to the landfill and spent 20,000 pesos on new fans and installation instead of 280 pesos.

  8. There is the smell of smoke in our neighborhood on a regular basis. The need to burn is partly for ag reasons as the local farmers clear brush this time of year in order to plant for the rainy season. It is the way it's done here and I don't begrudge them for continuing to do it. But most of the stinky smoke comes from trash and brush from construction sites and gardeners tasked with getting rid of yard debris. This I can partly blame on the local government for not providing places and ways to eliminate trash without burning it. Most of the construction guys don't have the ability to haul to the sanitary landfill out past Santa Cruz and there is no green waste dump site for creating compost and the regular trash truck won't pick up garbage at the building sites. So that leaves them having to burn trash and green waste. If the city wants to enforce the rules (which they should but probably never will) then they should have alternatives in place for the offenders. Alan

  9. Agree about all inclusives. Way too many folks worried about "Getting their money's worth". Stampedes at the restaurants and the bars, no thanks. Towels placed on pool chairs at 6 AM for an afternoon visit and intoxicated people everywhere since it's "included" and already paid for.

  10. We used this form when a family member who was a retired Federal employee died. All the decedent's children had to file a separate form. This was about 5 years ago, not sure if still the same. https://www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/fe6.pdf

  11. That is why we got an ONLY ADULTS all inclusive membership in the ONLY ADULTS hotel. Also, we go there, "out of hard season". I mean, when the Mexicans are working, we never travel during Mexican hollidays, it is the hell! 😆

  12. yes! that is part of the Mexican warmth and friendship! Just cultural issue! :)🤣

  13. Agree with using a business. Quickblinds can do that with their staff installer. But they also fix fans and many times it's just the capacitor which is a very, very easy fix as Mudgirl has already pointed out. Lemme see now... 50 pesos and a service call or 3500 pesos up for a quality fan? No brainer imho. The fan does not need to be taken down and apart to fix most problems. Do not buy cheap fans! The aggravation is simply not worth the price. My preference is Hampton Bay and one of the fans in this house is now 20 years old. It was also converted to a remote control. I have no idea if Quickblinds has insurance for their staff.

  15. https://www.denverpost.com/2021/04/08/colorado-johnson-johnson-vaccine-investigation/ No “serious side effects.” No one taken to hospital. Stopped vaccinations at that one store for that day. Vaccinations will be resumed at that store. Other than that, you are correct.

  16. LOL! Chillin' says ceiling fans are so inexpensive... so just HOW and WHO do you think takes down an old ceiling fan and a new ceiling fan gets installed? Uh huh. Requires a ladder.

  17. Sometimes people just go overboard trying to impress, mostly themselves, and anybody else who will listen, about all their knowledge and wisdom on just about any topic. In this case.....Its all the time.

  18. I've said it before and I will say it again: that's the way threads work. I challenge you to find a chat board that is as strict as you would like this one to be. And I reiterate, there is still an opening for moderator here. The original topic here was a simple statement. It was not a question and required no comment. Following your way, it would have been perhaps the only post, period. At least this one got interesting on very related topics.

  19. Thank you to the original poster for this great info. Once again, blah blah blah..... everyone chimes in with opinions that have zero to do with the topic. ARGHHHH!

  20. What on earth does Canadian law have to do with a Mexican handyman fixing a fan?

  21. I don't disagree with your post, other than about grilling for one or two. I do it daily on my well-seasoned gas grill. And by "well-seasoned" I mean, rarely cleaned 😊 My grill heats up to 400 degrees in 5 minutes and with the lid down, holds that temperature with the knobs turned to low. I can grill a nice piece of salmon in about 10 minutes or a dozen shrimp in 5 minutes, without using a pan that needs washing. Now that the weather is warmer, rather than heat up my kitchen I also use the gas grill as an oven for reheating things like leftover pizza slices (really gets a good flavor).

  22. Sorry about the apparent non clarity. For me, I agree that slow smoked meat tastes great; However, like cigarettes, deep fried food, alcohol, or soda; the companies selling those products don't really care about our health. That is on us, as individuals. No offense meant, just my $0.02

  23. I like smoked meat, but your question seems to be like asking: why would the cigarette companies sell a product that kills their own clients.

  27. None of the above. We were out on the beach this morning. Maybe 4 other people as far as one could see in either direction. There is one condo here, period, the one we are staying in. 63 units. Otherwise a few obviously pricey houses and a lot of open beach front. \ Restaurants in Barra de Navidad, 30 minutes north or at Hotel Isla Navidad, 15 minutes, fancy and pricey. As I wrote, this is a serious get away from it all and almost everyone beach vacation.

  28. Yes we drove. No, not all inclusive. We don't like those places much. We go for no crowds, no noise and very tranquil for our beach visits.

  29. Chef Bruce, in Puerto Vallarta, serves a lot of steaks and other meats. He seems to rely a lot on Sous Vide for waterbath cooking these days, at various temperatures. He can hold a steak to a perfect medium rare, with red up to the skin, for hours (sorry, I dont know the food safety guideline for sous vide) If he gets an order for a medium rare steak, he removes it from the bag, then flash grills it with lots of drama. The prices have really dropped for these units and they are perfect for people who entertain a lot. All the meats and even shellfish, can be cooked to precise optimal levels, and then can all be seared or flame wokked all about the same time, all to the same consistency. For home convenience, just take out a frozen steak or fish from the freezer. The water warms to both defrost and cook the meat.

  30. The subject by the OP was Great Steak...at Home. Who cares that you do not have a valid contribution on this subject!!! Yes, the conversation has veered into cooking said steak, health concerns and even if BBQing contributes to climate change but still all interesting posts...until yours!!!

  31. It is clearly written. Here maybe this one is better for you. The WHO reports that the U.S.A. has highest amount of ladder deaths and injuries in the world. And this is increasing. Most of the falls are less than ten feet. https://www.nachi.org/ladder-safety.htm

  32. How do you get around the requirement that three limbs must be in contact at all times. Then there are the fall arrest clips, etc. One hand can only do very little work.

  33. Are you ever out of touch. Two men working off a 15-20 metre step ladder, at the same time, installing a fragile light. In Canada, by law, I would have to setup a temporary scaffold, and a complete fall arrest system. It is illegal to work off a ladder in Canada., they are only permitted for access, they must be tied off. Also illegal to lift plastic buckets on ropes with materials, tools etc.
