  1. Isn't it wonderful that you have the need to make light of what effects we who are extremely mobility disabled. You, no doubt, can revel in your ability to climb stairs which some of us are not able to do anymore.

  2. Nothing has changed since the last time you asked. No one can tell you the answer to those two questions at this time. Like the flu vaccine ..when it is available it will be posted everywhere. Until then no one knows.

  4. Possibly rather than using social media for information it might be more accurate to visit the states official information source? That way you should be able to get accurate information which is sometimes lacking on social media. https://dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/immunize/vaccine.aspx https://cv.nmhealth.org/covid-vaccine/

  5. When it is obvious the waiter is doing his best and the fault lies with the owner, seems the decent thing to do not to penalize said waiter. There employees are in a world of hurt these days.

  6. I asked a simple question on Chapala Health Group's page on FB. "Does anyone know if non-state residents can receive vaccines in Texas or New Mexico?" The admin denied posting my question saying "we live here now" and only Chapala questions will be allowed. I then followed up and responded that many people living here have medical issues treated not only here but in Mexico City, or the States, or Canada, and therefore, it is a legitimate question especially as it appears the vaccine rollouts will be delayed here. I was expelled from the Chapala Health Group for questioning the admin's judgement of censoring my question. Obviously, I would like to know if Texas is not going to vaccinate me if I am not a Texas resident, and thus save the 625 mile driving trip one way. I am still a Chapala resident, and a permanent resident of Mexico. I find this kind of rudeness and censorship incomprehensible by the admins of Chapala Health Group on FB. Perhaps this is akin to what is going on in the United States, a supposed higher moral authority cutting off people's freedom to express and to question, cutting them off at the knees and expelling them from their platforms. The only narrative accepted is their narrative. What kind of "Group" does this? Whew: Nasty and inexcusable behavior towards an open and honest question about an alternative vaccine, and needing an answer for wanting to be vaccinated before what looks like April or May here. Unbelievable behavior.

  9. We've avoided this establishment since their move to San Antonio Tlayacapan (Across from Superlake plaza) a few years ago. Avoided, simply because of the totally overbearing owner who was far less than honest or caring about his food and beverage presentation. (When you order a bottle of Italian Chianti and then catch the owner surreptitiously pouring cheap Mexican jug wine (F. Chauvenet Tinto) into a previously used Chianti bottle you become forever warned! However, this past Thursday night my wife and I had made a reservation for 6:45 at La Paceña (one of only 4 local restaurants that we've visited since the Covid crisis changed our lives) a neighbouring restaurant to "LA TAVERNA dei quattro mori's" current location, we found ourselves in a situation where, as a result and as an alternative to simply going home, we decided to give "LA TAVERNA dei quattro mori" a try. Good friends had recently told us that there had been an ownership change and that the food and service was "excellent". We arrived at La Paceña, were greeted and promptly seated in the garden as requested. On arrival there were only 6 other diners present. We asked for the beverage menu as on our several previous visits they introduced a special beverage menu with a great and interesting variety of exceptional cocktails. However, we were informed that the person responsible for their special cocktail offerings was no longer employed. As a result they only had beer and wine available. We each ordered a glass of wine. We asked our waiter if they still offered a table side preparation of their house specialty salsa (a charred vegetable and peppers selection). He confirmed that they did. We asked a few questions about the day's fish offerings and said that we'd wait for the salsa and peruse the menu before ordering our meals. A basket of tortilla chips arrived and a small selection of their usual salsas. Quite a bit of time went by...perhaps 15 to 20 minutes and no sign of the special side prepared salsa. We flagged down our waiter and he said that he would check for us. He returned to tell us that they couldn't make the special salsa as they were out of the ingredients. We weren't terribly thrilled and since we'd had such a recent and great recommendation from 'knowledgeable and trusted" friends about "LA TAVERNA dei quattro mori" we decided to give it a try. We asked our waiter for our check. A few minutes later another waiter or perhaps "manager" approached our table. We know he definitely wasn't the owner (as our experience that evening would never have occurred if the owner had been present!!! That's a known fact that would be supported by all of our friends who have been frequent patrons.) The waiter/manager said that they were not able to make the special salsa because they didn't have the necessary "hot green peppers". I responded by saying that when you have a large supermarket situated right across the street and you have far more staff present than customers, that's a pretty "lame" excuse. He then offered to have someone go and get the peppers. (Duh!) We left a 35% gratuity and after apologizing to our "victimized" waiter.....left....and likely won't return. Indifference and laziness has no place in the restaurant industry....particularly in today's environment! On arrival a few minutes later, after a 20 metre walk, to "La TA TAVERNA dei quattro mori" we were welcomed by the new owner and immediately surprised to find that he's a man who we know well and have, for quite a number of years. A very successful businessman who, as a result of the Covid epidemic has been forced to temporarily suspend his long established business based in Mexico City. He's a longterm resident of the Ajijic/Lakeside area. My wife and I personally personally know that his decision to take on "LA TAVERNA dei quattro mori" would not have occurred without much careful consideration. So.....here's our overview of our first meal in a very long time at "LA TAVERNA dei quattro mori". Great Italian menu offering authentic recipes. Great service. Immaculate restaurant. Outside seating is available. Immaculate and totally well equipped kitchen. Great wine menu with great offerings at sensible "market worthy" prices. Each of our two different main courses were as good or better than any prior "Italian offerings" in the Lakeside communities....except in our own home! Our meal ended with a complimentary serving of a very well done "in house" produced "Licor Limoncello". All that said....we'll return and......so will many of our friends who will be "PM'd" on this posting. Doing whatever is necessary to build clientele and survive in today's environment is commendable, respected.....and will be remembered long into the future!

  16. Remember the Alamo, Jim Bowie, and thank you for that clarification. Makes sense, especially since despite slow rollouts of vaccinations while vaccines sit on shelves, the amounts of vaccines are still generally in short supply versus those needing them.

  17. Sounds like our best bet is that local private clinics will buy the vaccine - hopefully AstraZenaca which is cheap - and distribute it to old people.

  19. My first part-time job in HS was waiting tables. I won't stiff a wait person. 99% of the time, delays are the result of management or the kitchen. I think the OP did exactly the right thing, got the bill after several attempts to get food, leaving a large gratuity for the server who was not at fault. Inconsistency remains the biggest problem with local restaurants, often due to the owner not being on-site.

  22. Since we are all piling on Maincoones, I have to say that while Canada and the U.S.A. are democracies, they definitely are different structurally. Rather than "apples and oranges" on population differences, that was the key reason the Provinces were given so many powers compared to U.S. States. The country was kept together as one by fighting for national projects. Like a coast to coast railway system, like a world war, like a national health care system, like defeating a movement of one Province to break away with the others, like a coast to coast public broadcast system sponsoring a wide variety of national cultural events. The very key difference though is that Canadian kids learn about these world wide topics in school. American kids, I met a long time ago, graduate from high school thinking Canada is all "eskimos" and igloos. Mexico is sombrero dressed peasants, napping in the shade of a cactus. Canadians, in the most part, celebrate cosmopologism, internationalism, accepting other cultures with interest and joy. Canadian teachers tell the parents teach your children at home your national language and culture. Let us teach them English and French. Americans, in the most part, demand conformity. Act any different, speak a strange language, don't adore Jesus, well - you are going to get you butt kicked and excluded at all levels. Verdad?

  23. I applaud Mudgirl and Harry for their intelligent responses. I am not sure why Maincoons, who should be impartial as a moderator, should feel personally insulted by comments that do not match his predudices.

  24. I am a patriotic American and I applaud the way Canada has handled the Covid crisis. No genius just basic common sense. The way the pandemic was handled in the US was criminal and things like that led me to Mexico 20 years ago. Corruption is everywhere;no need to debate it. It is a fact. When they say 80 - 90 % of US deaths could have been adverted and nothing will be done about it I am infuriated and ashamed.

  25. US population is 8 times Canada. US has 332,000 deaths. Canada has 15,000 deaths. Multiple Canada death rate by 8 and you come up with 120,000 compared to 332,000 deaths in US. Think what you want but Canadians behave better and the numbers show it. US population is 2.6 times Mexico. U.S has 332,000 deaths. Mexico has 122,000 deaths. Multiple Mexico death rate by 2.6 and you come up with 317,000 compared to 332,000 deaths in US. So Mexico is much closer to US in death rate. Data is from John Hopkins.

  26. There was no false equivalency and what I said in my post had nothing to do with governmental structure or population. I said that judging from both the Americans and Canadians I know and talk to, Canadians are far more willing to take the virus seriously, not risk their health in regards to that, and abide by health directives. That has been my personal observation. There is nothing anti-America about it, but that seems to be the way you like to see things. And I have never posted anti-American anything. Anti the outgoing administration isn't anti-American. Born and raised in the USA.
