  1. Or you can do a combo of either flagstone with pea gravel (first photo) in between or flagstone with river rock in between. My preference is for river rock because it doesn't move.

  6. I just spoke with two of our neighbors. One had a reading of 36 degrees and the other had 39 degrees. Our thermometer is just fine. I don't particularly care what other sources say, I know what our thermometer states and, our neighbors have verified temperature, this is about the same temperature that we have every year up here.

  8. An area in the back off the terrace is where I do a lot of repotting. Was always muddy. The rain splashed the mud on the terrace and required rinsing off everyday. The dogs and I tracked mud into the house. I hated it. I sprayed it with a strong weed killer, laid down the cloth, had 23 bags of river rock delivered and placed them one by one to fill the area. Problem solved.

  9. I recently used WhatsApp on 331 520 9621 to cancel phone and internet. I texted my phone number and a photo of the top part of my bill, explaining what I wanted to accomplish. A rep texted back in English and I answered a couple of questions. Later, the rep told me to bring my equipment to the gate of the Ajijic office. Upon arriving at the Telmex gate, I texted that I was there. A rep came out to receive my equipment and that was my experience in cancelling my Telmex account. I made sure to pay my bill before I contacted them. Also suggest that you wait until next week before contacting them. One last thing that you may need to know is that this took two days to accomplish. It takes awhile for them to get back to you. Good luck.

  12. Not quite a paradise. A lot depends on the soil which in some places has too much clay and roots rot-get somenone to check the soil before you buy or rent. . And the insects can be voracious eaters of many plants and many pesticides are needed. It is a learning process.

  13. I'm not about to make assumptions about what the "average ferner" prefers. Who knows, and who's taken a survey, anyway? Expats I happen to know have a wide variety of same. I'm a little curious about the slight attitude of superiority some folks take credit for, for their own personal taste. On the "hot and spicy" issue, the flavor of the dish itself does not depend on the level of heat. That can always be added. You just can't reduce it once it's there. Maybe the answer to those heat lovers is to "bring your own". Each body is different in its reaction to foods. Personally, I'm a fan of the wonderful flavors found in good Indian cuisine. Some of the best dishes on planet Earth aren't hot and spicy, nor did they originate in the U.S.

  14. Update: A friend of Michael Eager (La Nueva Posada Ajijic) lived next door to the Hotel Anita during his childhood and has positively identified the images of Hotel Laguna as Hotel Anita. It remains unclear whether the hotel was ever formally called Hotel Laguna or whether this was just the photographer's choice of caption. - A huge THANK-YOU to all who responded to this thread and for your ideas, suggestions and support. Happy New Year!

  16. No,not smelly because there are no flagstones. When not rainy season we give it a hose when watering the plants. It's easy to pick up poop from the medium size river rock[gravel] that we used. It's easy to walk on and it doesn't bother the dog's feet when they romp on it. it's not a big courtyard but we find it very tranquil to sit on our patio and enjoy and a couple of times a day Howdy Chases Chuck all over it.

  21. Some light hearted things we’ve learned living here, would love to hear some of your sweet sentiments... A house without lime is like a clock with no time All colors go together The free road is going to cost you Anything on the floor looks like a scorpion Water pressure is like air, you don’t think about it until you don’t have it 18 Celsius can be cold Roosters don’t just crow at dawn Time is complicated, noise and cold are relative

  23. Estrellas I hope you are not suggesting that anybody that does not go out and get the vaccine is probably going to die from Covid, seriously is that what you are trying to say. Roughly 50% of Americans are not planning on getting the vaccine anytime soon. So, you really think half of Americans will soon be dead from Covid. I hope I am misinterpreting your statement.

  26. Since "crappyjillan" once again rambles: Take a look at the following and you'll get a really good look at the food from Al Meraj. It would be simply wonderful if Magnolias could offer similar, but they currently cannot! https://www.google.com/search?q=al+meraj+grill+%26+pak+indian+cuisine+Ajijic&client=safari&rls=en&sxsrf=ALeKk02bSOWqS_I3gwWvlnvX8yaIEH1Q-w:1609368491382&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=VTmM6I0QntTLFM%2CH0rxstQhHxckzM%2C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kQK8s2qwabzG2LNbTz3rPk-qnrxxQ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwib8vbp5PbtAhUDXK0KHcx9DtYQ9QF6BAgPEAE#imgrc=VTmM6I0QntTLFM

  27. The first tech that came was not here for the FTTH. Ah well! (They said my FTTH qualification was in error and my area doesn't have FTTH -- they don't know why the system let me attempt to order FTTH). But he was able to max-out the speed of my VDSL line. At first it improved to 10/1 -- tech said I had to call in to get the line bumped. But it was already bumped after 24 hours when I did a modem reboot (power cycle), and it went straight to 40/10. They needed to install a new line and a new modem (same model modem though). It meant a new phone number too, but I now have these numbers: And this is a WiFi speed test (which is important, because my realtime "life closed captioning" apps on my iPads use WiFi) I'll still keep pressing for FTTH, but now my massively improved upload has eliminated the major annoyance (earlier difficulty reliably running these assistive apps I need). Now I have two lines, I gotta cancel the original (probably degraded) phone line that was unable to sync to 40/10, but I don't care about the original landline phone number anyway. I'll have to visit a local Telmex to do that, but the location seem closed so I have to figure out where I go to return the other modem and cancel the old (crappy) line. A bit of a byzantine method to get 40/10 but it worked!

  28. Some good news from AstraZenaca. They have been approved for emergency use in the UK. The Carlos Slim Foundation has contracted with AZ to provide vaccine and have the vaccine packaged in Mexico and distributed in Latin America. The AZ vaccine only requires normal refrigeration, making it much more practical for many countries.

  39. Re read my post, I pointed that out already so people couldn't accuse me later of misleading. But still would you be in line to get that Covid vaccine if people were later testing positive for HIV, be it only false positives or not? Sounds like the vaccine in some places can be scarier than the disease.

  40. Does everybody realize that the government vaccination program in Australia has been stopped due to people that got vaccinated later showing up testing positive for HIV. So many people that got vaccinated later tested positive for HIV that the government put an immediate stop to the vaccine. I realize the Australian government says the vaccine was locally made and has claimed that it only shows false positives......but still....who wants to take a Covid vaccine if you later test positive for HIV. Guys, none of these vaccines have been properly tested for sufficient years to prove that they are safe. Only get it if you trust the government beyond a shadow of a doubt. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-australia-55269381

  41. From Sonia Diaz's site, http://www.soniadiaz.mx/immigration---visas.html Humanitarian Visas Humanitarian Visas are free for those in Mexico including Tourists or one with no visa. Applicant must be unable to travel to outside of Mexico and as in so doing the applicant's life would be at risk and may die The humanitarian visa requires an examination and letter from the applicant's physician stating those words re: risk as noted. Next, that document is presented to a physician approved by Immigration who issues a very specific letter. In San Miguel, only one doctor is acceptable to INM and she will send a nurse to the applicant's home for a final evaluation. Humanitarian visas are renewed annually. A person with a Humanitarian visa may apply for Temporary or Permanent Resident visa locally based on financials.
