  1. So would I, as well and learning which hospital they use for surgery. I had a very negative experience with the one they used in Guadalara back in 2019 to put in a stent.

  4. I use a cleaning service that charges me $800 pesos for 4 hours of 1 housecleaner. I got a chuckle from the post about "so much time on our hands" since so many of us need that maid service for tasks we can no longer handle ourselves due entirely to infirmities, rather than time constraints.

  7. I use a service as well, for 3 hours once a week. Yes, it is more money than I paid when I handled the hiring, etc. myself but I don't l want to do that again. The service pays insurance costs, as well as annual bonuses, etc. They also supply all equipment and cleaning products. If the cleaner is not satisfactory, they find a capable replacement. It works for me.

  11. For best local news, read the local Spanish language papers. It's a great way to practice your Spanish. You will see articles in them that you won't see in English only papers.

  14. There are monthly plans from Telcel that are not Amigo starting at $200 pesos/month for 1gb of data. Sin limite calls in the US and Canada. Once in the US the phone connects to T-mobile. The bill is due on the same day each month and can be set up for autopay using a credit card. No worries about recharging. If you are away and need more data (Telcel will send you a text saying you are low and the app shows the percentage remaining), you can buy additional data in gigabyte chunks. The OP says he pays $200 for 28 days. so the monthly plan would be cheaper assuming the amigo data limit is the same as the Planes de Renta listed on the Telcel site. To me it seems a lot less stressful getting a recurring plan paid automatically each month instead of continually worrying about the next Amigo recharge.

  15. Out running errands this morning and decided to throw all caution to the winds by having breakfast at Pancho’s. It (and the store) were busy. Service was good. Protocols being followed. I had the everything omelette which came with beans and a small fruit plate. It was excellent. It has been many months since I had eaten there and was pleased that everything seemed fine (at least for today).

  17. So you’re assuming the expat people who are taking work away from local Mexicans have employees.. B.S. The people I’m referring to are one person operations who pad their pensions by taking people to the airport or up to the border, renting vehicles.. fixing computers..rides to Costco and many other small jobs that could and used be done by local Mexicans. And I know this for a fact because I know a local Mexican who made their living driving expats or anyone else who needed transport around, but over the last year or two with all the Facebook sites that have popped up here they have done less and less business., and now they are out of business. Anytime anyone post something on a Facebook site such as wanting a ride or or something done expats are PM the person to say I can do that for you.. I know this for a fact because when I posted about a ride to the airport I had PMs from two female expats saying we offer that service.

  20. I cancelled my health insurance about 2 years ago. The annual premium was about 25,000.00 MXP. The deductible per event was about 110,000.00 MXP. I live in an all Mexican neighborhood in Chapala and have a great doctor (who is also fluent in English, not that I need it). He did a house call once and the costs was 200 pesos. We do not live forever, so I enjoy every day like if it was my last, its amazing how stress free my life is now. ☺️

  21. WE know several foreigners have WELL over 6 dogs...... so don't think this is a "Mexican" issue. (No we are not included) Some are more mindful than others about the noise etc. their dogs cause. In past years, at least two were "invited" to leave La Floresta when their dog counts got to 14 or 15......... So don't be so quick to condemn the Mexican population at large. The fault lies with the individual in each situation.

  23. So you assume that all expats don't hire locals ? You know A local Mexican who has lost his business because of the statement you made. Well A is not a good measure of people loosing their job, although one is to many, so you can of course state what you want but a good argument would show more than one (A)
