Rafter.....I sometimes miss throwing obnoxious customers and amateur food critics out of my restaurants...it can become quite addictive.

  2. Let me start with a confession. I'm not living in Ajijic any more. I now live in Queretaro. But I have made a few trips back since moving and this site has been a good way for me to quietly asses any issues like traffic that are going on. But in this case, I feel I need to speak out because I would feel awful if I didn't and someone was made for the worse for it. Three months ago I had COVID. I had a moderate case and did not need hospitalization. But afterwards, I just didn't get better. The fever went away, but he shortness of breathe, (SOB,) fatigue, chest pain, strange symptoms coming and going, did not. I was no longer viral shedding but have what they are calling in the USA, Long Haulers Syndrome. Studies are showing from 10 -15% of people are developing long term problems. And the range goes from mildly irritating to people dying 100 days after getting the virus from heart or lung issues. It has not been the top of the food chain news as a vaccine and keeping those initial deaths down are the priorities but you can "google scholar" real SCIENTIFIC studies that they have started to do with the issue. I have been working with a doctor in Houston through ZOOM who is with Baylor there in the Med Center. But most importantly, I have found some support sites that share with others what is and isn't working for various things. We are hive minding the best of the world's doctors and comparing notes. Many doctors say they visit the sites to see themselves what has - or is working. The reason I'm speaking out, is we are seeing now a few deaths from people taking "supplement mixtures" or homemade/specialty cures. This virus effects the ACE2 receptors and causes what is called a cytokine storm in the body. In fact, it can cause many storms spaced out. We have no idea what outside substance could also make these storms flair up more often and intensely. A woman who had been on for as long as I had lived in L.A. and she was talking about this great "chemist" that had come up with mixture of all natural items that was curing Long Haulers in weeks. She had just started it. Two weeks later, her husband got on telling us of his wife's passing. She started having a bad reaction almost the first day but at day three she went into cardiac arrest and her heart was swollen like a balloon. Preliminary autopsy reports showed she had a massive "attack" on her own heart by her ACE2 receptors. The "chemist" is gone. So is all the money he made with this great product. Other people were reporting getting worse instead of better. They don't know what exact thing was in the "natural" substance that made people react. As with everything here time will tell. Supplements are good. One of the treatments I am on is an intense medical grade vitamin D3 dosage based from positive trials in the UK and Germany. But it is only after it was watched carefully in patience that it was recommended for the general public. And fortunately, there are many studies already about D3 limits in the body in relation to ACE2 receptors. I'm not saying don't take vitamins. I'm saying do your research if you think you could get COVID or you get it. Some supplements that effect the immunities could be to much of a turbo boost or reaction killer to actually help - especially if combined with herbs to elevate your energy. PLEASE! Do not recommend mixtures or products that have not been vetted. I'm filling out questionnaires daily from doctors around the world looking for why some of us do not get better. As well as why some people have deadly "storms" within the first weeks. They want to know. From the source and amount of salt- to if I drink diet drinks. Do I use Tylenol a lot? Do I eat a lot of hormone enhanced products. Do I use essential oils? Take certain medications. Eat a lot of one fruit? There is most likely more than one needle in this haystack and we have to go straw by straw to find it. No one wants to advise a person to take something that could kill them. For those of us with no answer to how long we will be unable to function, it is so tempting to follow the "miracles." Especially if they are natural. Even 10% is an awful lot of people living in fear as to where the rest of their life will be spent. Right now mine is going from a bed to a sofa although I am seeing small gains from one of the three simple protocols they have me on. And it might not just be us Long Haulers that can damage ourselves with unvetted compounds or cures. You may make your own body weaker to the initial cytokine storms you have while viral. Now! I will go back to stalking with my mouth shut. Forgive me if I'm out of line. I was planning on coming to Ajijic to bring a load of nice plants back right before the pandemic. I still hope to run into you at one of the local nurseries someday - sooner rather than later.

  3. Dear Carnivore, There’s a lot I can say about your post and experience. First of all I want to apologize for your bad experience, secondly you mentioned being in the food industry yourself and should know that the best thing a customer can do “is let management know of your experience “ your food wasn’t cooked right ? You didn’t like it ? Let them know!! It gives them the opportunity to fix it! Why go behind “doors” and criticize and talk bad about the place when they have no clue there’s an unhappy customer. Good or bad reviews helps us grow. But the most important ones are the one brought up in person. We are a family owned business with 6 tables and 1 person is able to manage them. I hope you give other businesses the opportunity to fix any issues you may have in the future. Thanks to a very loyal customer, I found out about this place and told what’s being talked about us. We can’t grow or fix any problems if we don’t know about them. We strive to serve the best quality local product’s and service our customers deserve. Once again we Apologize for your bad experience.

  4. I went for a single stem cell injection in my left hip as my cartilage is almost gone after 51 years of dancing on it. I forget the man's name, but he also comes from GDL and provides this service in Dra. Justina's Clinic. I had an x-ray before the procedure to confirm my suspicions of diminishing cartilage. He told me to wait about 5-6 months and get another x-ray. I did and my cartilage is growing. I can only speak for my experience but I'm grateful I caught it in time while I still had cartilage for the stem cells to initiate re-growth. I did research before choosing this procedure and these practitioners. As always, do your own research and determine what you feel is safe and in your best interest. Stay safe out there! Val Jones

  5. This entire post has become so ridiculous that it's now only best described as bad or drunken humour. In case some of the more self-aggrandizing posters have forgotten....the whole purpose of the forum it to allow restaurant clients to honestly report their good OR bad experiences so that anyone who happens to read the post can make their own decision about patronizing the eatery, OR not. Some of the most recent posts can only be described as drivel and an incredible waste of time for both the poster and reader!

  8. I suggest that restaurant owners check this website for opinions. I would find it very uncomfortable to discuss my dissastisfaction with the owner of the restaurant. Who would be more aware of the shortcomings of the food and/or service than the owner? The lack of awareness would only be believable if the owner were not directly involved with the day to day operation of his/her business. The owner's post was unconvincing, at least to me.

  9. A friend just returned from New York, flying direct to Mexico City ( to avoid U.S. stops with more CoV contagion) and then here. No food service on the plane. She went through FIVE sanitary checkpoints in Mexico City airport.... mask, temperature check, gel, and health questions. Mexico is taking the threat from entries from other countries quite seriously. And yes, for sure if you are coming from a more actively "contagious" state. Walmart requires temp check, mask, and gel plus is taking head count for entry. One person per family "unit" allowed in. (Not always observed.......) Restaurants the same, as well as MANY businesses. A lot of places have been forced to close permanently due to economic conditions..... There were no festivities, parades, etc. for 16 Sept. There will be no Fiestas de Octubre in Guadalajara. There will not be the annual religious parade (Romeria) in Guad from the cathedral to Zapopan..... what some tapatios consider the most horrifying of all!! Yes, some things are semi-normal. But many are not. And that's before you think about the current outbreak of dengue ( I know several people who have it as I write). So come, but not with any degree of complacency!

  11. Another interesting side effect seems to be depression, I hear about it from France and I see it in the indigenous communities in Chiapas, It seems that men are more prone to it.. it may be the same thing as the long hauler symptoms, I do not know but the amount of depression and the feel bad and or sick symptoms seems to be on the increase. ii.. I would not take any of the medecine advertise as the "cure " in Mexico on a bet. False and misleading ads are filling the papers in Mexico and the internet on a daily basis.. Lots of snake oils salesmen out there and why people would fall for it is beyond me.

  15. Request your ballot NOW Cutoff dates for requesting your ballot vary by state, but are as early as Oct. 3, so don’t put this off. Request your ballot from the last place you were registered to vote, not necessarily the last place you lived. You must submit a completed Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to your local election officials. The FPCA. serves as both your ballot request and voter registration, and must be received at least 45 days before an election, to allow ample time to process your request and resolve any problems. Once approved, your name will be put on a list of voters to receive absentee ballots. Due to COVID-19, many states are requesting that you verify that you are still living abroad, so fill out the FPCA or verify that you are still eligible to vote on your state’s Secretary of State website. At a time when both international and U.S. mail services are in a state of disarray, it’s best to avoid them altogether. All states allow fax, email or Internet download for sending your blank ballot to you. If allowed, plan to fax or email your completed ballot back to your county election official. About 20 states require that ballots be returned by mail. See below for more information. Two websites with tools to help you fill out the FPCA and submit it are http://fvap.gov, which is the official U.S. government site, and http://VotefromAbroad.org, a nonpartisan site created by Democrats Abroad. (One advantage of VotefromAbroad.org is it allows you to capture your signature electronically and email the form directly without having to print it first, although voters in some states, including California and New York, are required to sign by hand in any case.) Both sites also have people available to answer your questions. If you are not sure you requested your ballot by email, send in a revised ballot request. Make sure to select "Email or online" ballot receipt on the second page. Your Local Election Official will update your information based on the new FPCA. If you’re at all uncertain if you’ve requested this year (during the 2020 calendar year), send in your absentee ballot request form NOW. Your local election officials will confirm your eligibility to vote and put your name on a list to receive absentee ballots for any elections held that calendar year. They will send you a blank absentee ballot electronically. Complete and return the ballot so it arrives before your state's ballot return deadline. If you requested that your ballot be sent to you via email, then you should receive it on or before 19 September. If you don’t see an email from your Local Election Official in your inbox, check your junk/spam or promotions folder. Everyone mark your calendar for SEPT. 19th-----if you are an Overseas Voter, your ballot must be sent to you via electronic means (if you so requested) on or before that date. If you don’t have a printer/scanner, Papeleria Trinidad (across from SuperLake) or iShop (one block east of SuperLake) are good alternatives. Bring the completed PDF ballot on a thumb drive and they will print it. Sign the ballot (usually 2 places) and have them scan it as a PDF. English is spoken. If you are from one of the following 26 states/jurisdictions, you can return your voted ballot by EMAIL or ONLINE UPLOAD: AL, AZ, CO, DC, DE, HI, IA, IN, KS, MA, ME, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE*, NM, NV, OR, RI, SC, UT, WA, WV, WY* *Nebraska voters must get their Local Election Official's approval to return a voted ballot electronically. *Wyoming is currently setting up its email return system, so please contact your Local Election Official for details. If you are from one of the following 5 states, you can return your voted ballot by FAX: AK, CA, FL, LA*, OK *Louisiana voters must get their Local Election Official's approval to return a voted ballot electronically. Please note, you can use the email-to-fax service that is offered free of charge to overseas U.S. citizens by the Federal Voting Assistance Program. IMPORTANT: be sure to format your .pdf as "U.S. Letter" sized paper. Simply email your completed ballot with the required cover sheet to fax@fvap.gov and it will be faxed to your Local Election Officials. If you prefer, HelloFax is a popular service you can use directly from your computer. It is free for a limited number of faxes. 20 states still require POSTAL BALLOT RETURN. If you live in one of these states then you MUST return your voted ballot by postal mail: AR, CT, GA, ID, IL, KY, MD, MI, MN, NH, NJ*, NY, OH, PA, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT*, WI *NJ voters: New Jersey allows voted ballot return by email. The voter must then also return the original by mail. Given that the postal systems around the world are severely affected by the COVID-19 crisis, we URGE YOU TO VOTE AND RETURN YOUR BALLOT AS SOON AS YOU RECEIVE IT. You can aim to get your ballot ready to go by Monday, 21 SEPTEMBER. Mexico and US Mail alternatives for the above 20 states Courier Service such as FedEx, UPS or DHL Your ballot must be enclosed in a ballot envelope. The instructions that come with your ballot will explain how to prepare your ballot envelope. Complete your ballot, put it in the ballot envelope, seal it, make sure to sign the ballot oath, and then put it in the courier service envelope. Update (Aug. 30): Democrats Abroad has contacted all of these states and they have confirmed that they will accept voted ballot return by a courier service. No date stamp is necessary as long as the voted ballot arrives by close of polls on Election Day. Per iShop, the cost of mailing a letter 3-5 business days for FedEx is $1063 pesos and DHL is $940 pesos. She said UPS is quite a bit higher. Diplomatic Pouch Consular services in many countries are not operating normally or are understaffed, and therefore the diplomatic bag is not a guarantee. Check with your Embassy/Consulate to find out if they are currently accepting election mail. MEXICO Update: Currently we do not know if the Diplomatic Pouch will be available at LCS as it has been in the past. Information will be provided as it becomes available. Moreover, the diplomatic pouch may not leave every day or even every week, depending on the country. When it does depart, the mail is delivered to the USPS sorting center at Dulles, where it enters into the regular US mail, which is itself experiencing delays. While this approach may avoid the delays of the postal service of the country in which you reside, you should note that there will likely still be delays. The best way to account for delays this year is to VOTE AND RETURN YOUR BALLOT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Note that each state has slightly different rules. Sometimes individual counties have their own rules. CHECK with your local election official. It all comes down to what that local office will accept/reject.

  16. Many places are rebottling from large containers to small pump type bottles so there is no way to tell what the product is. The sanitizer used at front door of Walmart is very sticky compared to other hand sanitizers. If the virus doesn't get you the hand sanitizer might.

  27. Depends on your state. CALL you local Elections Official BEFORE completing and sending your ballot. In FL there is no such requirement to use my Mexican address as my return address. On my FL voter registration/card the line for Mailing Address shows my TX forwarder's address. Again, CALL or EMAIL your LOCAL elections official!!

  28. We live in Ajijic and visited the States for two weeks in August. We few roundtrip, non-stop Guadalajara to Chicago/ O'Hare (ORD) on Aeromexico. Masks were required at all airports, along with social distancing, meaning lines were spread out, many seats/chairs were either removed or spaced out. Only a small number of vendors were open in the airports (e.g., at ORD international terminal, the only food available was Burger King). Lines were short, as there are few flights. Some of the airport lounges were closed. Planes were boarded back-to-front, and the boarding rules were one or two rows at a time, strictly enforced. Masks were required during the entire flight except when eating/drinking. Service from the flight attendants was limited. Lakeside, most restaurants and shops are open. Masks are required, but many locals are not wearing them (I would estimate 50%). Seating is limited , and you must sanitize your hands when you enter. Also, in Mexico you often have to step on a mat which has/had disinfectant on it. Still no large events/gatherings here either.

  29. Great post by Best Side and wish you well. Here is a very interesting article about a hospital / MD developed therapy in Ocala Florida, that combines proven existing drugs to help fight the worst symptoms and effects - not the virus itself - and thus can keep people out of the ICU if started early. Still being tested but quite promising and could help fill the gap until vaccines are available: https://www.ocala.com/story/business/2020/09/22/ocala-developed-covid-19-therapy-local-study/5865410002/ Best thing of course is to stay safe, distanced, masked, and patient, so as not to have to find out if this works for you.
