  1. On September 9th when I first posted it was after receiving a friend's suggestion that we read the prior responses to the post. My wife and I decided to take a look for ourselves. We know very well what a Cuban sandwich is, having been to Cuba, southern Florida and the area around "Nueve Esquinas" in Guadalajara. Further, there are probably at least a dozen authentic Cuban eateries in Guadalajara. We also have our favourite Cuban restaurants in Scottsdale/Phoenix and having been, successfully in the restaurant business for many years we know what service, quality, value and the importance of visible management is all about! There were three other diners present when we arrived at about 1:30p.m. A lone woman reading a magazine and we never observed her eating. An elderly man and woman who left about ten minutes after we arrived. The young waitress (the only employee we ever saw although it was apparent that someone else was in the kitchen) took our order for two beers. Of the four beers listed on their poster board only two were available. Twenty minutes went by before we received our beers (Victoria) but twice the waitress had returned to our table to ask which beer we had ordered. We ordered two grilled Cuban sandwiches. It was another 1/2 hour before we received our sandwiches. The library patron had also left. When our sandwiches arrived a lone male patron had just been seated. Our sandwiches could not have been 1/2 inch thick and the toasted bun had been so obviously over toasted on a "press grill" that it was more like a "cracker" than bread. The cracker was hard and scorched. The ham was a square, thin, pink slice of processed something (perhaps turkey, some kind of ham or maybe even turtle....impossible to identify!) The pork consisted of thin pieces of almost burnt shreds of pork that were so dry they crunched. It was identifiable as pork because virtually everyone knows what pork fat smells like. The thin slice of yellowish processed cheese was not identifiable as it had virtually liquified and blended with the mustard. There was so much plain yellow mustard on the sandwich that the mustard was really the only thing you could taste. The fries were overcooked, dry and almost cold. When our food arrived we had asked for another "Victoria" to split between us, but apparently the two we had received were the last available. Remaining choice "Corona" but definitely not to our taste or liking, so we passed. So the good thing....We had a polite, pretty little waitress who, likely to most 14 year olds, would be considered "hot". However, we left all of the fries, at least half of our sandwiches and when we settled our bill with our usual level of gratuity (as we know that no employee here has sufficient income and most have absolutely zero control over who they work for or the quality of what they serve)... our little waitress pleasantly said: that she hoped we would return sometime soon! Not exactly a visit worth repeating! In addition the abundance of flies and road noise definitely detract from the ambiance. Rick & Heidi. Your visit and subsequent report should definitely have been recognized as being exceptional. (It was only after reading your initial post that we decided to visit.) Your visit must be considered as something akin to winning a lottery. You should have immediately after leaving, raced to OXXO to buy a lottery ticket. We ate many, many times in your restaurant and never, ever experienced anything even remotely close to our Cuban excursion in Riberas. In fact, in our twenty three years, since first coming to Lakeside, I can really only remember having experienced one other Mexican restaurant experience where the food deserved an equivalent description: TOTALLY INEDIBLE!

  2. Inconsistency: an attribute shared by too many Lakeside eateries.

  3. INM is doing away with the need for infantile size photos. When one goes for finger prints and signatures they will also take your photo and eye scan. Once done, you leave with your visa. This is now in effect in San Miguel (and likely other INM offices) and in time throughout Mexico.

  4. LOL...while the water plants on the lake are called lirio here collectively, they each have a real name. Here they are grouped together and called lirio. The majority of water plants on the lake are commonly called water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and water lettuce ( Pistia stratiotes). Water hyacinth have the purple flowers. Water lettuce does not. They are both common plants used in ornamental water features in the US. The plants currently on the lake are primarily water lettuce and only a small amount of water hyacinth so far that I can tell. We have a layer about 15 ft wide on our lakefront now so I have checked out what is here and not from a long distance away. Last year there was way more at this time of the year. I realize the amounts of the water plants (lirio) probably varies from year to year as does the lake level but since I only have one years experience I thought I would ask. Foolish of me I see:/ We live on the west end and do not have much here at all. I have not seen large "islands" of it yet at all even with the wind blowing from the east. If it floats like lirio does that mean all the plastic bottles are lirio as well because there is plenty of them floating on the lake too:/

  5. I have used OneSim for years. You have to make sure you get a SIM specifically for banking. So far it has worked with all banks and credit card companies, although some can be fussy at times, e.g. it works fine with one Chase account and sometimes not at all with another. Keep the option of receiving codes by email for times like that.

  6. Good grief! If it floats like lirio it is lirio and that's what we have on the lake.

  7. I would guess that the Jalisco Secretary of State can do that. The document issued in Chapala is in color with your picture. What country is the intended use? They would possibly want a Federal No Antecedentes Penales which you get in Mexico City

  10. This plastic membrane that is rigid set along the outside cement or brick wall that is below ground level before backfilling eliminates moisture by allowing it to evaporate and by keepng moisture from the underground wall. The top part of the roll needs to be about 3 inches above ground level so it can breath. We installed it after construction and eliminated our problem (so far).

  11. The total number of cases means nothing without either the number of recovered or active cases. It is merely a number. It does not mean that that number of people is walking among us spreading the disease.

  12. I had a local contractor build me a small pool/spa. I call it a spool. Has jets on one end and with the solar panels it almost gets too hot to get into. I cover it at night to keep in the heat. Like to keep it at 94 deg. Very happy with the spool. Contractor's name is Gustavo 333 157 3048

  13. It is not only NOT a scam, it is part of the South Dakota state law to allow people from out of state to get SD vehicle titles, registration, and auto plates: 32-5-4.1. Nonresident registration application--Issuance of nonnegotiable interstate title--Purpose and duration--Violation as misdemeanor. Any person who is an owner of a motor vehicle, motorcycle, truck tractor, road tractor, trailer, semitrailer, or recreational vehicle or trailer, who is required to apply for registration under chapter 32-3, 32-5, 32-5B, 32-9, or 32-10, and whose legal residence or chief place of business is outside the state, shall submit an application, a copy of a valid title or registration from another jurisdiction and payment of all applicable fees to the department. Upon receipt of such information, the department shall issue a nonnegotiable interstate title. A nonnegotiable title is not a valid legal document for any purpose or transaction except to make application for yearly South Dakota registration. The nonnegotiable title is valid as long as title ownership remains the same. A violation of this section is a Class 2 misdemeanor. Source: SL 1969, ch 179; SL 1988, ch 236, § 11; SL 1989, ch 255, § 14; SL 1989, ch 257, § 54. I had SD plates on my car for many years, although I originally moved to Mexico from Oregon. The nice women in the Clay County DMV were always very helpful and understanding.

  16. That is the real question different species get mixed together and it is confusing and the plants can have different vegetative and flowering phases https://www.researchgate.net/publication/325202627_Aquatic_Plants_Pistia_stratiotes_L_and_Eichhornia_crassipes_Mart_Solms_An_Sustainable_Ecofriendly_Bioresources_-_A_Review
