  2. I am not accusing this person or company of anything.....but.... Two or three times a year we see news stories of one of these type of operations closing shop and leaving everyone helpless. It takes months if not years for the government to step in and try to help those with accounts that have been left with nothing. Stick with a national or international bank with local and multiple branches and their own ATM's. There are plenty of choices here. And always remember that because someone speaks excellent English does not make them automatically honest.

  3. Another thing people can do if they are trying to help out a favorite small business is to let them know that everyone doesn't use Facebook and if that is the only place they advertise and list their phone number, hours of business, etc, they are losing potential business. And that if they list certain hours, they need to be open those hours, and if they aren't for some reason, to leave a note on the door saying why and when they will be open. I went to buy something at a specialty store and although it was normal business hours, the door was locked. I had just turned around and was starting to walk back to my car, when the saleswoman came leisurely walking up, and unlocked the door, a bag of chips and a drink in her hand. She'd obviously just walked down the block to grab a snack, and had she been a half a minute later, she would have lost a fair-sized sale. Had there been a note on the door saying "Back in 5 minutes", I just would have waited.

  4. Yep Cedros, like almost everyone else on this Board. But if you read again, it was not ME who brought up the subject with ERRONEOUS information in another thread.... that was subsequently locked. And the good news is that you did not have to read the Post seeing that you were thoroughly informed years ago and have good retention of the subject matter.

  5. Just felt like rebutting a Post made here recently about South Dakota plates and their history at Lakeside. For some reason, back when, a few folks wanted to make out the whole 'using South Dakota plates in Mexico' as a sham if not a scam. There was much mis-information then and the recent Post just brings those mis-representations back for some reason. Jubilacion is actually spot on with his/her comments. It was NEVER a scam or sham nor a ploy, Clay County was NOT the only county in SD offering the state-wide program to out-of-staters etc etc. Why this.... using SD as a viable option for some to keep a US vehicle in Mexico legally and above board.... seemed to stick in the craw of some is beyond me. And the fact that literally hundreds of folks utilized this option tells me what the real sentiment was around Lakeside. Mexico offered an opportunity for foreigners to have/keep their US vehicles in Mexico legally by using the "TIP" program. Using the SD plates option allowed anyone so inclined the capability of keeping their US plated car legally registered in the US... instead of driving around Mexico with expired registration/plates. Many folks no longer had a 'home state'. This gave many expats a legal opportunity to do 'what they wanted to do with their vehicles' rather than what someone else thought they should do with/about their vehicles.

  6. Bisbee Gal I have NEVER promoted nor advertised that I purchase foreign plated vehicles for removal from Mexico but rather ALL have been the results of word-of-mouth owners contacting me to see if I would buy their vehicle and take them out.... thus relieving them of that task. I have been THANKED many times over for providing this service to them. I did this as a 'retirement hobby' that frankly has gotten out of hand... but it also gets me to Lakeside more, which I like. You comment that I am 'in the business of... and have a pecuniary interest in keeping cars titled with US tags' is ridiculous at best, libelous in intent and now you've turned your misinformation headlights on me! You are just pi$$ed because I outed your erroneous comments about SD plates in Mexico, calling the practice a sham and a ploy which it is NOT. People have a right to know the truth rather than your misguided attempt to limit freedom of choice with falsehoods. Shame on you. People have a right to do with their vehicles what they please, not what your viewpoint says they should do!

  7. I've never heard of them directly soliciting a bribe either, but I don't doubt that there are lawyers or facilitators who can make things go more smoothly. In my experience taking the test, it was done in the office of a higher ranking official, the "subdelegado" I believe, not with the same front-line workers who checked all of the other paperwork. They are federal officials and probably aren't going to straight-up ask you for a few hundred pesos or something like a municipal traffic cop. If anything shady is going on, is probably going to be through lawyers offering "expedited" services.

  10. The OP is in the business of buying US tagged cars that he takes NOB and sells. He has a pecuniary interest in people keeping cars titled with US tags. As he stated in a post dated Sept. 5, 2020:

  12. Yep, and as crazy as it sounds, we stayed one night at a hotel and I asked the hotel desk near the DMV Licensing office to put mine and my wife's name with our new PMB address onto the hotel bill (and they knew all about doing it). The next day we each presented our hotel bills at the DMV and viola, we had our DL in 20 minutes...the actual license not a temp.

  14. Tomorrow September 19th is the federally-imposed deadline for states to email (when requested) or mail or fax ballots to those registered as Voters from Abroad. Those of you who requested email blank ballots, check your email tomorrow, including your Spam folder. Contact you local Voting Official if you do not get your ballot. Sooner rather than later! And as @desafinada has stated, find the instructions for your ballot, read and follow precisely. Any questions should be addressed to your local Voting Official's office.

  16. I'll probably regret this. Stopped in today and saw that they have a nice quantity of black licorice. Sorry, no Twizzlers (but that's not really licorice). They even had the Red Vines in the 16oz packages. Also Australian licorice.

  17. Coming back from the Costco on Lopez Mateos this morning I noticed that there is a new Home Depot going in. It's located on the right side as you head south, not far from the new Galerias mall. Couldn't see when it will open but from outward appearances it should be fairly soon. I wonder if they will close the old store on Lopez Mateos just north of the periferico? Would seem strange to have 2 so close together. I'm looking forward to seeing it open as the old store was always a hassle to get in and out of.

  18. We just received our email ballots for Webb County, TX. Please read your email carefully and be sure to include your signature sheet with your Texas ballot. We had to click on their link for the sheet, it was not included in the attachments. Webb County does not allow email or fax return of the ballot.

  19. Not only does Farmacia Guadalajara not have it but Walmart does not either. The lack of any information on the internet about this product raises serious concerns to this very old hospital pharmacist.

  20. It is not only NOT a scam, it is part of the South Dakota state law to allow people from out of state to get SD vehicle titles, registration, and auto plates: 32-5-4.1. Nonresident registration application--Issuance of nonnegotiable interstate title--Purpose and duration--Violation as misdemeanor. Any person who is an owner of a motor vehicle, motorcycle, truck tractor, road tractor, trailer, semitrailer, or recreational vehicle or trailer, who is required to apply for registration under chapter 32-3, 32-5, 32-5B, 32-9, or 32-10, and whose legal residence or chief place of business is outside the state, shall submit an application, a copy of a valid title or registration from another jurisdiction and payment of all applicable fees to the department. Upon receipt of such information, the department shall issue a nonnegotiable interstate title. A nonnegotiable title is not a valid legal document for any purpose or transaction except to make application for yearly South Dakota registration. The nonnegotiable title is valid as long as title ownership remains the same. A violation of this section is a Class 2 misdemeanor. Source: SL 1969, ch 179; SL 1988, ch 236, § 11; SL 1989, ch 255, § 14; SL 1989, ch 257, § 54. I had SD plates on my car for many years, although I originally moved to Mexico from Oregon. The nice women in the Clay County DMV were always very helpful and understanding.

  21. You are exactly correct and I'd add that many US states require an emission inspection prior to issuing plates. Some still require a state safety inspection. Some require proof of insurance in effect prior to renewal on plates. These things are very hard if not impossible to get for many expats living here on Temporal or even snowbirding on tourist visas but who own cars here (which is actually not legal but not uncommon.) It isn't a scam if South Dakota wants to issue legal plates to folks who meet their state's criteria for getting them. Having said that, I'd still recommend buying a legal car here and getting a legal Jalisco registration. It just makes life easier especially when dealing with cops. Alan

  22. The Vallarta Daily is known for publishing a lot of sensational stories. https://www.xataka.com.mx/medicina-y-salud/vita-deyun-nueva-cura-para-covid-hecha-mexico-realidad-suplemento-fraudulento-1-800-pesos Vita Deyun: the new "cure" for COVID made in Mexico is actually a fraudulent supplement for 1,800 pesos

  23. When becoming a PR after having been a TR, it takes longer as approval comes from INM in Mexico City. Similarly, when apply with a pre-approved visa from a consulate it takes longer than a renewal as your local INM checks with your point of entry to confirm you entered as per your FMM.

  25. I was in a small store doing some business and the store staff and all other customers none wore a mask. I social distanced with my mask and eye protection. No wonder cases are rising in Chapala. Ajijic is much more compliant with masks.

  26. A friend, a long term resident wrote to inform me that there was a posting on this site that totally evidenced proof of the level of insanity that can develop in a retirement community where boredom and lack of industry takes hold. Curiosity took over and I looked......and totally agree! I also have to say that our one and only visit to "Sabor Del Caribe" (located at Hidalgo 257-B, informally known as the Carretera, in Riberas Del Pilar on the north side of the road) did not, in any way provide us with any reason to return. Evidence: LOOK AT HOW MANY TIMES THE SAME INMATES POSTED!
