  2. As you (will) see, there will be some who recommend a certain Dentist(a) and others who say no to that person. That's generally because no one Dentist is 100% perfect every day for every person who walks in. I say all of this to suggest that there ARE two Dentists who almost ALWAYS get good reviews in this town. One is Dr. Haro's office and the other is Dr. Barragan's office. Both of them a just a bit more expensive.... but of course NOTHING like US pricing.... but they consistently get good/rave reviews no matter what the work being done. IMO a newbie in town with a current problem would best be served by going to one of these offices. Probably neither of them can see a patient the 'next day' but for an emergency they would probably make an exception. Good luck!

  9. I have NO idea why you went off on me? I was just there, you have not been, what's your issue? I was 100% AGREEING WITH YOU in my post that COVID must have changed the vendor dynamics because right now, not 8 months ago and not 12 months from now, but last Monday, the length of the two Tiangius are about the same. That's it. Nothing else. I only know what I have seen, I have no history pre-COVID. I apologize if you took offense and misinterpreted my comment, I am not correcting you or anyone else just reporting what I saw firsthand. Excellent pictures by the way.

  10. In this area the weekly markets are called tianguis and the markets in fixed buildings that are open every day are called mercado. In Chiapas all markets fixed or ambulant are called mercado . Wether Ajijic or Chapala all the merchandise comes from the same place the abasto which is the wholesale / retail market in Guadalajara. If you go to both you will notice the same merchants the difference is that the Chapala tianguis is much larger and does not have artesania.

  11. I agree with this recommendation.

  12. Since covid 19 both have shrunk. Under normal circumstances the Chapala tianguis is 4-5 times larger. No, Chapala tianguis is probably the biggest on the north shore. I took these fotos[a very small sampling] during better times. Yes I understand that you're newbies and I also see by your many question posts where a lot of us long timers here are trying to help you and as well as arguing and not accepting our experience you seem to want to put your own spin on things by assuming to what you wish to hear instead of what is. Like: "Maybe this was a competing event?"

  14. Dr Candy is possibly the worst dentist in town.. and I’m saying this from personal experience. if all you require is a cleaning OK. anything else get out of there as fast as you can... Dr Haro or Dr Brarragan both great dentists.. My preference is Dr Haro.

  15. A letter from the bank stating that you are the holder of the account has been required for about the last 4 or so years, but many of the consulates don’t ask for it, the one I used did require it, I was very lucky in that I found out about it 3 days before my appointment.

  19. We're new Lakeside also (early August). I had a quick need for a dentist with a chipped tooth, both cosmetic and function. Went to Family Dental Chapala (Dr. Carlos Cerda Albo; (332) 324-6388). Next day appt, felt sanitary and covid procedures were strong, fixed and matched my tooth, spoke excellent english, grad U of GDL Dental, high google ratings, and charged only $800 Mex to repair (about $38 USD). I will go back. Buena suerte!

  25. There is nothing he can do. Many years ago he could have sent a couple of "friends" to his shop for cheap when he was there alone and get compensation from him or suffer pain but today that seldom happens in this part of the country. [ or does it? ]. The standing joke was my cousin from Sinaloa can help you.

  26. I live nearby and am a potential customer. Unfortunately, I can't tell what the place sells. The facebook page led to a different business which seems like a tienda focusing on fresh foods. Googling only showed businesses which appear entirely unrelated. Might walk by eventually, I guess.

  27. Maybe you should get a bounty from a vegan organization for anyone who becomes a vegetarian after reading your posts. Eating raw uncooked smoked bacon fat, eating raw, uncooked smoked duck breast that you report is tough and stringy. Yuck, just Yuck. Wait until you arrive the gates of heaven and find out it is being run by a duck. Next down elevator for you!

  28. No. 16 de Septiembre is like US holidays; while many become Monday Holidays, those with specific celebratory dates, do not. I.e., the 4th of July, Veterans Day (the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th year). I'm sure Canada and other countries have similar holiday schemes, where some are Mondays and others are set in stone. January 1 - New Year's Day (Año Nuevo) First Monday in February - Constitution Day (Día de la Constitución). Originally observed on February 5, now observed on the first Monday in February. Third Monday in March - Birthday of Benito Juarez (President of Mexico from 1858 to 1872). His birthday was March 21, 1806, but the holiday is observed every year on the third Monday in March. May 1 - Labor Day (Dia del Trabajo). Worker marches and demonstrations in cities across the country can create traffic jams and generally slow things down.. September 16 - Mexican Independence Day (Día de la Independencia) Third Monday in November - Revolution Day (Día de la Revolución). The Mexican Revolution began on November 20, 1910, but the revolution is commemorated every year on the third Monday in November. December 25 - Christmas Day (Navidad)

  29. You might concentrate on your major concern. If it is for a heart condition, or fear of one, you could go directly to a cardiologist, perhaps at Quality Care, for example. In the course of your consultation, you might ask him to suggest a general practitioner, if he thinks you need one. Things work differently in Mexico.......

  30. The cars involved could have crossed at any of the 3 Laredo area bridges. Also we don't know all the circumstances of this video. Who shot it? They are speaking Spanish, were they tourists from the US? Mexicans returning home from USA or only Laredo? Type of vehicle? Full of purchases? and much more. The title says foreign plated vehicle How do we know that? Odd that someone was filming every car they passed.... And odd that more than one car was detained. And how do we know it's a cartel.... I see a police vehicle.

  31. There is also a tianguis in Ixtlahucan de Membrillos on Sundays, there must be one in Tjamulcos de Zuniga. These are both small towns near to Chapala. By the time you figure out how to pronounce them, you will be there! Their products are more local and specialised - such as green herbs/edibles from the mountains, quince fruit products, woven horse hair bracelets, etc.

  34. Well, we are new here and that's a good point. So we went to something in Chapala yesterday (a tianguis I will now assume) and it was only the same size or slightly bigger (not even 2x bigger) than the mercado/tianguis on Wednesday's in Ajijic heading south on Calle Revolution from the carretera. Is there another tianguis in Chapala bigger in a different location than the one we attended? Maybe this was a competing event?
