  4. Heidi and I both had REAL cuban sandwiches at Sabor del Caribe in Riberas today and they were fantastic. Best I've had since leaving Florida! The sandwich is ham, pork (cooked the Cuban way!), swiss cheese, pickles and mustard...served with fries for $85 pesos. I would have gladly paid much more! All kinds of goodies on the menu at excellent prices. They bake their own bread and pastries. Took a loaf home and Heidi at about 1/3 befoer we arrived! Damn, it was good!

  6. That is the most stupid observation and excuses I have heard . The bottom line is the person(s) responsible for making that decision should be fired. Maybe one of the longer term solutions is for City Hall to have a budget amount set aside for spade and neuter and work closely with one of the private groups who are currently doing this service In the meantime get the person's ### from his desk and find a more suitable location

  7. Newjeersey expat, you are so right. I could ramble on about the different types.i.e. not sleeping for 30 hours at a time, aggressive, difficult eating etc. Anyone with dementia should be cared for by professionals. There are schools in Guadalajara to become a geriatric specialist. It is a year and a half course and challenging.

  8. Have had several over the past 3-5 years. As a dancer, it's extremely important to prevent injuries and then treat those ASAP. I've had the pleasure of meeting several wonderful local PT's. Jorge Ulloa is my first choice. His office is across from Mom's Deli in Riberas. VERY professional and after my hip replacement at the age of 55 (51 years of dancing on it), he and Angel came each day Monday-Friday and did intensive PT with me for an hour to an hour and 1/2. After 2 weeks, they had Christmas holiday and I continued my exercises while they were away for 2 weeks. Once they returned, my 30 days of "no driving" had expired so I drove to their office and after one visit, they sent me home. I was scuba diving in Nicaragua a few weeks later. Can't recommend them strongly enough. Also, Caesar at URDI in the Plaza on the Libramiento near Lake Tako and the car wash is also excellent. I did about 9 months of intensive PT at his place to try and avoid the eventual hip replacement. He also does home visits. Fortunately, we have wonderful P.T.'s locally who actually care about you and your condition and will visit you in your home. Wishing you great luck and success with your recovery! Val Jones

  10. In 2006 I downsized my Seattle residence to a very small condo unit half way up the building facing a large hospital across the street. I was in shock the first night I tried to sleep there to be awakened by very loud sirens as the Ambulances brought in patients. And they were and still are much louder than a barking dog. I was sure that I would have to move away. I tried ear plugs, you name it. Nothing worked. Some four months later, I learned how to ignore these sounds and now when I am up north, I don't even hear the sirens. I truly hope that you (all) too, will be able to somehow be able to ignore these loud barking dogs and do as I do and get a great sleep. It can be done.

  12. I have been told that when a customer is a pain in the butt the cost goes way up in hopes they will never be called back again. I am sure that is not true in the OP’s case though. He sounds so nice.

  14. It is a good idea to keep your Medicare with A & B, as you may need it on visits to the USA, or when you move back; willingly or not. We moved to Mexico in 2001 and bought a home in Ajijic. We sold that one in 2004 and bought a larger place, in Chapala centro, in 2004. Then, medical issues caught up with us. Care was excellent in Guadalajara hospitals, and with our various doctors, but the frequency began to add up. My wife reached medicare age, I developed more problems, including COPD. That was the straw that broke the camel's back, as I needed a lower elevation to reduce my dependency on oxygen bottles and a concentrator. So, we sold out in 2014 and moved back to the USA, where she uses Medicare and I use the VA. Otherwise, we would have been in trouble at today's prices. Yes, we miss Chapala terribly, but at 72 and 82, we must be very careful as inflation wreaks havoc on those of us who have been retired for 22 years with tiny pensions and SS based upon wages from the last century. Be careful, plan well, keep your options open, and be happy.
