  1. I think you are correct and surely there isn´t one person living here as a permanente that doesn´t have at least, $250,000 USD, in a Merrill Lynch account.

  2. Yup 'cause I ain't going through chimo or radiation just for a few months more and not have good quality of life in those few extra months. I have other issues that suggest my demise is neigh in any event, so I am attempting to have excellent quality of life with the time I have left.

  3. I've posted my opinion on this before. We came here from Canada where the cost medical was part of the income tax you paid and just went to docs hospitals without requiring further payment nor high insurance costs. I did due diligence in planning our move to here including med costs.I knew that would be our highest annual expense factoring in all that that entails. Even though we have had some big med expenses over 14 years, surprisingly our med slush fund continues to grow. I liken med insurance industry to that house in Vegas that ALWAYS wins they make their huge profits by selling you something that you may not need for a long time and hope that you don't need them to pay out for you. Some sort of med insurance would have cost us waaaay more than our actual cash expenditures for All our med needs including drugs and dental.

  5. Willie made a good point. Not many clinics here have scanners. So if you're thinking of chipping the dog for this area you must understand it only "might" work depending on who finds it in case of getting lost.

  6. Haven't paid more than the 48 peso administration charge in over 8 years and i have a bunch of kilowatts banked, 22 panels. I calculate it paid off after 4 years on CFE charges and now I'm offsetting propane costs as well. ...and solar water heating as well of course. SunFan

  7. For me it's ALL about the driver, and nothing about which company. We've used Juan thru 3 different gas companies over 19 years (before that the company across from old Salvador's, but they let us down too many times) .... his current truck is Tomza but makes no difference. He gives exactly what I ask for and is always most accommodating. Poor Juan.... with solar hot water we take months and months to even use 1/2 tank... but he delivers the same cheerful smile every time.

  9. If you plan to travel at all in the U.S. sign up for part B. It will be cheaper than travel ins. in the U.S. If there is any chance at all, even a remote chance, that you may one day move back to the U.S., do not opt out of part B. Personal experience is my source of information. You will pay a penalty for the rest of your life. Your choice, but I would advise not opting out of part B.

  10. Ok, yes he gave us the Azul plan at first. We were not aware of the Ambar (bronze) plan so the next year we told him we just had to reduce the cost. So explained that the middle class mexicans use Country 2000 and other good hospitals and you dont need the "boutique" hospitals. So we switched. Here is what we pay and we are 65 and 63, no pre existing conditions. 2020-2021 year 56,027.30 pesos about 2,858.00 US It went up $9000 pesos from last year.....We pay this year simi anually which is 5% more which is $2,801 pesos more about $142 US with the peso rate when we did this at 19.60. So we paid 29,414.33pesos march 21st and september 21 we have to pay another 29,414.33pesos which is about $1,500US which another guy on here said was about $3,000US per year ( I was wrong about the only $2,000US) So that $3000 is for us as a couple not each person. That amount you mentioned sound like the highest plan the Blue plan (Azul) Actually we are thinking to go with the even cheaper plan next time. He said we would not want it. But we have learned with Country 2000 that when admitted you pay $2000 US down and can pay the bill out. So that is $1000US cheaper than the deductable. the deductable is $3000 per illness. I dont know Im going to look into it because we are healthy.....who knows. Well hope those figures helped. It also covers illness and accidents that happen in the states.

  11. Who pee’d in Cedros’ corn flakes? Why such animus toward a guy selling trees? Ranting on and on about how much time the guy spends there, how long he’s been selling, does he own the land he’s on, blah, blah, blah, woof, woof. Relax, dude. Deep breaths.

  15. Frankly I think the "whole" service business around Lakesike has deteriorate, really how often do you have to check and double check before you say screw it I off, the older we get the less crap we need. Thanks for sharing Fred.

  16. ours with Bellon GNP is $2000 per year, 65 and 63. We have the Bronze plan. No "boutique" hospitals that are in the Blue plan. But it includes Country 2000 and other very very good hospitals that are excellent and we have had great experience with them.

  17. I am happy to announce that today, my friend José opened his restaurant "José s place " here in the plaza again. His wife Isabel, still has some difficulties walking and will not be there yet. Several months with no income ( while being ill ), but you can support them by having one of their wonderful meals again ( because of Covid : limited number of tables ).

  21. Because one is not supposed to bend and she has animals to feed. No, she is not having both done the same day, first one and then the other two days later. As she lives alone she has to all for herself. Two people who recently had the operation used this and recommended it to her. I never wrote anything about renting this, asking if anyone had one to loan her so she wouldn't have the additional expense of buying one. But what can I say everyone is a critic and not helpful at all. I do not know why I bother posting anything on this anymore.

  22. Over 25 years ago my family doctor (in Canada) said "whenever you think Polysporin or Neosporin, use Bactroban instead".... and he was right. MUCH better! Generic ointment in most farmacias.... known a MUPIROCINA. No Rx needed. Just got some this week at Farmacia Guadalajara Ajijic, but pretty sure it will be almost anywhere.

  24. A surge protector protects from sudden power surges or "spikes" It does not condition the power or protect from low voltage or "brownouts" The best protection is a UPS which has a battery, and surge protector. If the power drops or goes out the battery takes over and gives you time to shut down/ turn off the items running, or if the interruption is short returns to using the house power. The more items connected, and longer time it will maintain power, the more expensive the UPS.

  25. This decision is really a personal one and one size does not fit one other, much less all. Many folks who drop paying say that they did so because 'they will NEVER return to the US so why keep paying'. Only problem is.... stuff happens and folks who they and me thought Mexico was their forever home and they would NEVER go back.... go back. I've had 5 different friends/couple who have done this and two of them said 'the only way they would go back is in a black bag'. This was after a lot of years most times too. Well, things change or in the vernacular "sh*t happens!" In my experience the main factors are 1) medical reasons, 2) family and 3) 'just got tired of the Mexican way of life' (for all the things that can mean). I also have friends who said they would not go back and they HAVE NOT after 10-15 years. So one never knows. I personally look at it like paying for life insurance.... one pays it but seldom uses it. But I do understand that the cost, currently about $140/mo I think, is not chicken feed to just seemingly throw away.

  27. Since we are under TRICARE, hubby has no choice but MUST pay for Part B. It's a good thing, too, because while up north, he had to go to the emergency room. Long story short, some serious medical issues were addressed. Total bills so far: over $300k. Our cost with Medicare/Tricare: $0. It's absolutely worth keeping/paying the cost. As we get older, our health is not going to improve. FWIW, the times that he's used Mexican medical (private), it's been excellent.
