  1. Your question reminds me of the old quote: "It's not the hours you put in at work, it's what you put in the hours." Ask for quotes based on doing the job once a week. If unhappy with the results, next...

  2. Your first statement is obvious. If the employer has unrealistic ideas of the job then no one will take the offer and the employer will have to adjust his numbers, or negotiate. When you take your car to a mechanic he gives you an estimate. You decide if it is worth it. Just like you give the maid an offer and they decide if it is worth it. When does a mechanic say I don't know how many labor hours it will take and my charge is x per hour until I am done I can't give you an estimate so when your car is done I'll tell you how much you owe me.

  5. I have recently moved to Ajijic and am currently renting a house in Ajijic. I finally found the perfect house for me and my dog and cat. I will be moving in mid August to the new house which is located in San Antonio, Riberas del Pilar. I love to hike and was hoping to find some people to give me advice on which hiking trails are the best and hope to meet people to hike with me.

  6. Telmex has started 10 digit calling. At lakeside 376 area is needed for landlines. If you get a no existe using 7 digits, use 10 digits. also 045 and 044 are not needed for cell calls from land line.

  8. Addendum, 2020-07-23 It's been a year and a half wearing the overdentures on my upper arch, with no problem at all. They're very comfortable, and an easy and complete removal for cleaning is a real advantage. As mentioned in the original post, at night I'll wear my night guard, as it's much smaller, just covering the top of the teeth, and thus allows free flow of saliva. I purchased the night guard 3.5 years ago, specifying Lucitone FRS (a nylon resin rather than the default acrylic) and it's still going strong! The overdenture is so comfortable and protected the upper teeth so well, that in February 2020 I had some overdentures made for my lower teeth, to protect the lower gums, etc. Five months later and I'm still quite happy with this arrangement. No longer does food get stuck between my teeth and gums, my bite is improved, and my teeth well-protected. The only negative I've encountered with having both upper and lower overdentures is that all biting/grinding is done between two sets of (not sharp) plastic teeth. So, it's not the super-sharp ultra-hard natural enamel, but rather relatively soft plastic. Foods such as popcorn no longer can be easily ground to a fine slurry, but rather are flattened into something that looks like oatmeal flakes, unless chewed intentionally. Maybe in the future this problem might be solved by using a different material on the overdentures' food-grinding surfaces, when there are both upper and lower overdentures in use. Oh, one other item that might be considered a negative... (or a positive!): Overdentures do not require grinding the teeth down to "pegs", which are required for crowns as crowns must fit into the same space as the original teeth. With crowns, natural enamel and original tooth material are lost. A positive with overdentures is you keep all your original tooth material, because no grinding to pegs is required. This could make the difference in the future between keeping a tooth or losing it. The negative is that, because no grinding is done, overdentures are somewhat "larger than life" to fit over the teeth. But that can make for a beautiful smile. Your experience with overdentures may vary. Please see the Disclaimer at the top of the original post.

  11. After you've washed the berries, soak them for a few minutes in vinegar water. I store mine in a much re-used container that has air-holes in the sides and once held cherry tomatoes (I think). I put a folded paper towel on the bottom and change it if it gets damp. I have kept the berries for up to 2 weeks although I usually eat them before that. Why would you ever buy frozen berries with the beautiful fresh berries we have here?

  12. Good to know, except I haven't had any reason to go to Guad or lakeside for several years. Here's something quite funny- I saw a jar of Mexican-made zatar at La Comer. I looked at the ingredients, and it wasn't really the zatar I know, which is just ground thyme, sumac berries and sesame. They had substituted jamaica for the sumac, which seemed like a decent substitute, they have similar flavors and I've never seen a sumac tree in Mexico, although that doesn't mean there aren't any. On the label, they had the ingredients listed in Spanish, then supposedly in English. They had translated "jamaica" as "charity ball".

  13. I have yet to see an Ilox speed test, when done properly, that didn't pass. You can't test over wifi, you should have a reasonably recent PC with a good cable connected to your router, nothing else connected, then go to nperf.com and use the default server that comes up. If your speed is slow on that, then you may have a problem...otherwise the problem is elsewhere.

  14. Sounds like some confusion here, I would guess that Pete's comment about the removal cost had nothing to do with what he'd actually pay for the dish(es), which I'm sure he'd offer a fair value for. Hope you guys can work it out to mutual benefit.

  15. The only problems in CVN with water were related to pump failures and the inability of SIMAPA to make timely repairs. About 2 years ago there also was a pipe repair needed (damage caused by a contractor) that affected 5 houses. Because of location of the pipe it took a few days. CVN took control of the pump maintenance and installed a new pump and repaired the old pump so if there is a pump failure it can be exchanged in a couple of hours. Also unlike SIMAPA CVN has been doing an annual cleaning of the pump so failure is less likely. Houses in CVN are required to have Aljibes. A few of the very old houses have very small aljibes good for 1-2 days of use. The majority of the newer houses have large aljibes (as much as 20,000 liters) that will last for weeks if needed.

  20. We gave up on HP cartridges. Could not find our HP# ink even at Best Buy’s. Bought an Epson Ecotank using bottled inks and after almost a year have hardly used any ink at all. 7000 B&W copies and 4000 color. Won’t need ink for a long time.

  21. Vendors selling them fresh are all over the place around here. 50-80 pesos per liter are the best. I call them blueberries on steroids because they are so big and boy are they good! I can't understand why anyone would buy this wonderful and readily available berry frozen.

  28. .Unfortunately some of the most popular hiking trails have been closed off ..by the local Ejido population....for the last few weeks they have refused entry to anyone they do not consider “ local ejido “....In my opinion they don’t have the right to do this....just as you can’t close off a beach to the Mexican population ...you cannot close access to the Sierra Madres , This land...which they are custodians of was meant to be used for communal agriculture , grazing and homesteading..etc..Locally it’s pretty much abandoned... we hike into the mountains every week and have done so for over 10 years...and will continue to do so .

  29. Thank you for the pleasant words, Pedro. Yes I did backtrack, because of the Corona Virus, I am afraid to fly back until there is an anti-virus shot or the virus backs off.. Yea, I am probably a hypochondriac. and when I come back, I will be interested in an additional satellite dish, be it from gringohombre or someone else. . And yes, I was kidding around with gringohombre when I told him what it would probably cost to have his two satellite dishes disposed of. The figures were based on what I was told it would cost to dispose of unwanted satellite dishes And if I offended you gringohombre, I am sorry
