  1. There is no need to disagree. If one of you would like to report the Federal stats and one to report the State stats I would be happy to give you each a separate pined thread. That way we can all easily follow the progression of COVID from both reporting sources. I do appreciate that Mostlylost is going out of his way to do this and would hope Bisbee Gal would join in the effort.

  3. Today I asked @Mostlylost to review and compare the Covid reports he had been getting from a Federal agency, which are woefully out of date. I asked him to look at the more accurate and up to date Jalisco official site. For example, today for Chapala the Federal site lists 22 cases. However, the Radar Jalisco government site lists 33 cases (over 30 percent more). Rather than looking at the most up to date info, in a fit of pique, @Mostlylost deleted his old thread. I regret he reacted that way and became upset, but the Federal site is horribly out of date and inaccurate as he would have realized had he had an open mind and looked at the Jalisco site. The Radar Jalisco site is the source used by the Chapala Gobierno, at least 2 local Mexican papers (La Pagina and Seminario Laguna) and the GDL Reporter. Today Hector Espana, the Chapala Expat Liaison explained the reason why Radar Jalisco is more up to date and accurate.

  4. As of July 1st Mazamitla remains closed to non residents. The exception is if you have a cabin reserved. Also La Manzanilla de La Paz is also closed to non residents.

  5. Well, I am one of those who cannot pay the bill online. Somewhere, somehow, the online app of TelMex has decided we are no longer real people, has stopped sending a paper bill, and will not let us sign in online, as we have done before. I have called the Customer Support people who walked me through the exact same things I did before, and when it didn't work, the suggested I go to the office to clear it up. I did this 2x, just to be sure, once in Spanish and once in English. So, last month, off I went to the office. This now requires a cab ride, since the bus is not an option as it usually is and I am too old to walk that far into town. Office was closed. I paid at the machine, but the charges were more than usual, and there is no one to talk to there. Looks like the same thing is going to happen this month. I had no problem with the machine. It works fine. Social distancing wasn't a problem, because i asked the person behind me to step back. Sometimes one just needs to do things in person.

  7. Rock on dude. I have no desire to take over your paper route. But wouldn't it be in the best interest of everyone to have the most accurate and up to date info? I will reply with what I said earlier. Today I asked @Mostlylost to review and compare the Covid reports he had been getting from a Federal agency, which are woefully out of date. 8. Here are links to where you can find the most up to date info. Any one of them, one click away. My attempt was to clear up confusion between the Federal out of date numbers and the Jalisco up to date numbers. Please read Hector's explanation. The Feds today reported 22 cases in Chapala, when the official Jalisco site reported 33 cases. https://www.facebook.com/paginaquesiselee/ https://www.facebook.com/LagunaSemanario/ https://www.facebook.com/pg/Chapala-EXPAT-Liaison-114208060239293/posts/?ref=page_internal

  9. La Pagina newspaper does an excellent job reporting cases quickly and using the most up to date Jalisco site. This is link for them. They usually get the info late in the evening. A google auto English translate follows.

  10. Bottom line: CV is on the rise in this area, as most of Mexico and over half of up north and much or the world. People are slacking off with the precautions when they see things start opening up. Some hospitals are now where Italy and NYC were 3 months ago! People could have learned from those other mistakes! Conspiracy theories confuse many folks, some of whom now won't cooperate with contact tracers because they think they are some kind of government plot to follow them or some weird thing. We need to keep wearing the masks and staying home as much as possible until this is really really over, not in someone's fantasy version of it.

  13. I Think the Chapala Mayor and Town officials have done a first class job for the last few months (even though the amount of virus infections were low in Jalisco) so why relax now when the infection rate is just booming in Mexico and to be clear is extremely high in Guadalajara. I just do not understand the strategy of relaxing the efforts now.

  14. I met with Dr. Briseno in February; felt very good about his competence, and he's a nice guy. We discussed a routine colonoscopy versus Cologuard, aka the Poop In The Box test. Dr. Breseno is a big fan of Cologuard and laments that it is not available in Mexico. Of course he agrees that a colonoscopy is the Gold Standard for colon cancer detection. Because I know someone whose routine colonoscopy went horribly wrong in the US, I was not anxious to get one, in any country. I would have had a colonoscopy if I had worrisome symptoms or was in a high-risk category. But neither applied to me. Dr. Briseno and I agreed that if I took a Cologuard and it was negative, he would not recommend a colonoscopy for me based on my lack of symptoms. Cologuard checks for blood as well as for DNA cancer cells in the sample. Since we were going to US later that month, I ordered a Cologuard and had it shipped to a friend. Cologuard submitted the claim directly with Medicare so there was no paperwork on my part, and no co-pay as Medicare pays for the total amount (you do not need to medigap plan for any portion of it). I had done a Cologuard several years ago which was negative, as was the one I had done this past February. FYI, there is another test called Fit which can be shipped here, per my contact with the company (though I did not order). Fit looks for fecal blood only; Fit is very inexpensive. It is an at-home test with instant results. Here is Mayo Clinic's review of Cologuard. https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/stool-dna-test/about/pac-20385153 Canadian friends of ours said that their doctors in Canada use Fit as the first test for routine colon screenings; if it shows blood, then you get a colonoscopy. Here is info on Fit and its use in Ontario, https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/thunder-bay/colon-cancer-fit-test-thunder-bay-1.5189637 Not debating that these tests are equal to a colonoscopy, but there are many folks (me!) that are reluctant to have a colonoscopy and these other tests may be an option. Of course if you test positive on either Cologuard or Fit, you would need to have a colonoscopy.

  20. Yes, Harry, but then wasn't the peso around 9 or so to the USD? Now it's around 23 (mas o menos). Even with that, is the replacement cost still really not feasible?

  26. Oh no! that is disappointing. I find it difficult to find out if I am getting every peso worth that I pay Ana. For several years I paid at the Telcel store that used to be across the carretera from Telmex until I realized they were cheating me, then I switched to Ana, then I switched to Laguna but then switched to online payment (but it was a bit erratic) maybe I will have to again. Then I went back to Ana. Sometimes I wonder if cell phones are worth the hassle.

  29. As I said “Very Expensive”. I prefer to do as I did last January spend 10 mins of my own time and get my own sticker... I do understand many people are intimidated trying to deal with Mexican business’s so they pay someone like S&S to do it for them..Myself I prefer to do things myself..
