  1. You're partially right. In the bigger picture, taking care of others also ultimately takes better care of yourself. Think about it. This applies both to specific issues like Covid, and to national health systems. And both of these are a (or the) key reason why the US is such a disaster with the pandemic, vs the rest of the world.

  2. In some people's view, it is everyone's job to look out for all of humanity. And do one's part so that others are not harmed by our own self-centeredness. Thinking you are the center of the universe is a normal state of mind for a 2 year old. Civilized people are supposed to grow out of that. But I know that's not a popular American viewpoint.

  3. They make it very tough, they try to dissuade reports. We have been run around twice and the last time had to threaten the head of missing persons with arrest if she would not accept the papers of the report. They have it so convoluted, there is kidnapping, abduction and 2 other forms and then if the victim is a woman they try to make you file with woman´s crimes. One needs to be tough and not accept their BS. They will say oh go to the other crimes agency (where there they send you off to on of the other agencies) or only the head person can take the report and they are not in right now, come back tomorrow, then the next day they are not there and refuse to accept any papers. Their web site is wrong and so incompetent. Interested party? Hey, I cannot find myself, they kidnapped me, can you please investigate?

  4. I am thinking about it. By any measure the community response to this has been less than stellar almost everywhere. The U.S. does not have a national healthy system. It is a large geographic area with tens of thousands of governments involved in public health. That is not a structure that is going to respond well to a situation like this. Mexico does and how is that working out? Not so hot. Canada, with one tenth the population of the U.S. and a significantly healthier population, is doing about 30 percent better on a mortality rate basis. So what? Comparing it to its southern neighbors directly is a false comparison on a lot of levels. To compare highly diverse and less than healthy populations with smaller, more homogeneous ones is logically false. The U.S. and Mexico are the two fattest nations on earth. Both have very large populations of diabetics and the other illnesses that go with obesity. We know that directly relates to CV fatalities. We also know there's been a real tendency to lump fatalities due primarily to other causes into CV statistics. It is also logically false to draw comparisons with nations like China that routinely falsity all sorts of data. Or nations whose testing and reporting is so primitive they don't begin to be able to report the real case load. Understanding the actual statistics here requires taking into account such things as demographics, level of testing, how actual cause of death is determined and reported, and overall public health. Although cases have increased NOB, the death rate continues to drop as treatment protocols improve and a less vulnerable population is more involved. The relationship between the spikes and opening bars and mass demonstrations or rallies, both primarily involving the young, cannot be ignored. Look around you here and NOB and you will see the participation in social distancing and mask wearing seems pretty proportional with age. I doubt it is much different NOB. This thing is going to run its course. By and large, societies with elected leadership cannot maintain the social control needed to suppress it more than temporarily. I would argue that it is not realistic to believe said suppression can last long enough for widespread vaccination and nature is going to take its course here. By comparison with other really major pandemics like that of 1918 at least there is much better treatment available and in the end the overall death rate will not be unusual when viewing from a historical perspective. I believe for the great majority of this group we have the advantage of being well informed about personal protection, well motivated to follow it and free of the stresses of poor housing and loss of income. That gives us a tremendous advantage if we use it which is why I continue to suggest focusing on personal risk management and not trying to force our views on others in a country in which most of us are not citizens. I also don't buy these handful of reports claiming there is no individual or group immunity after infection. Far more studies conclude this virus is not atypical in that regard. In any case the validity of herd immunity and individual immunity is in the process of being testing by default on a very large scale. Bear in mind these spikes are occurring in populations where infection and herd immunity have been postponed, not achieved. We aren't even close to achieving it anywhere. https://www.businessinsider.com/nowhere-close-to-herd-immunity-for-coronavirus-2020-5

  5. no it is not a waste of time or money to file a denuncia and it s your duty to file one , without it the chances of people getting away for what they did is even greater....I would enroll the help of SPencer for reporting and maybe some type of investigator if Spencer knows one worth the money. I sure would not offer money in general, people are not pet and you need to offer a whole lot money which makes you appear on the radar of not so nice people..

  6. There isn't a "fine" for an overstayed visa. As far as I've ever known, they charge you whatever the cost of a tourist visa is. Do not show them your 3-year overstay visa. Tell them you lost it. And next time you go to a country not your own, show some respect for the laws of that country.

  7. There isn't conflicting information about whether wearing a mask in public and social distancing reduces viral transmission of COVID. It is a scientific and public health issue, not a political one, or a matter of some untrained person's opinion who doesn't "agree with you". So yes, anyone who refuses to wear a mask in public is severely lacking in intelligence.

  11. Allen, as it happens I do have poor eyesight and don't always have glasses with me for a reading. Still, most people are used to the $10 coin by quick look and feel. Have you seen one of the new $20 coin? also, do you look at every $10 coin now to make sure it is $10 coin? In my opinion people who don't look will be giving $20 coins when they think they're giving 10, but maybe I'm the only stupid one in Lakeside.

  12. All of Mexico is not under shelter in place orders. The Mexicans in the Chapala and Guadalajara area are very friendly to foreigners. Maybe it is different in Sayulita. Do you quarantine for 14 days in your home after visiting anyone or any place outside of your home mudgirl? You have been to Costco and Mega.... did you return home and quarantine for 14 days mudgirl? If no ....maybe you should take your own advice!

  13. Businesses etc are opening up; You never were confined to home; Everyone should wear a mask when in public; some businesses will not permit you in their establishment unless you are wearing a mask. Found this: OVER 60 OR HIGH RISK? STAY AT HOME Best advice from a Covid doctor who had Covid: "Please, please, stay home if you can. If you need to go out, WEAR A MASK! Do not touch your face. Wash your hands and sanitize often. I can't promise you won't end up in the hospital with COVID even if you do all of these things, but I promise it's the best shot you've got." FROM OUR GOVERNOR (posted June 29) “Pay close attention to Jalisco #COVID19 Semaphores and national rates. At the federal level we are in orange and our hospital capacity is at 25.9 %, that allows us to continue with the gradual reopening of our economy because people can't stand anymore without working, but we are still in the phase of individual responsibility. We are the third state with the lowest rate of accumulated cases, the fifth with the lowest active cases and the seventh with the lowest mortality rate. But mobility of people is still on the edge of green and that's a big risk because infections and deaths are on the rise. This is serious. In Jalisco we already regret 620 deaths due to #COVID19 620 families who lost a member to this virus that remains active and puts your life at risk and that of those who you love most. We cannot loosen up. If you have to go out, you'll find what you need, but take care of yourself with all the healing measures and #ReturnHome."

  14. Situation in Chiapas Totally off from what the government is reporting. They want to be in the orange zone so they do not test, do not accept people with covirus in the hospitals so undercount by 10 times and more and will be in the orange zone.. For those of you who want to go there do not... In many indigeeous comunities the covirus is not recognized as real and they think it is an invention of the government , meanwhile they will tell yo that they have hd many people sick and dying of the ENFERMEDAD... with fever, toss and loss of taste but that they have a special tea that cures it.. They also say that it is over and that the people who were to die, died and the others are recupering... The situation down there is a little like a twighlight zone pretty scary... For those who are curious check the article Chiaps the dead they did not count-- from 35 death in onth they went up to 370 but none of it is reported as covirus...

  16. Imo and experience, including a lot of wasted money paid, the only reason I would file anything with the ministerial publico would be if I was required to by your homeowners insurance in order to make it claim. Even if you get all of the paperwork done, the chances are slim and none did anyone is going to do any investigation. If it were me, I would post notice is all over the place offering a substantial reward for information leading to finding the person. When it comes to coronavirus they are saying this is a. Of self responsibility, I believe that applies to everything, if you want something done right, or even at all, do it yourself or with the help of Neighbors. Don't count down the government, it has more important things to do I will let you figure out what those things are. What is a what

  18. You need a pre-approved permit from COFEPRIS, a copy of which must normally be included in the package containing the pharmaceuticals before it arrives at Mexican Customs (Aduana). See here: Medical Permit for Importation of Health-Related Consumables (in Spanish) Scroll down and under the heading: Que no sean o contengan estupefacientes o psicotrópicos, que no cuenten con registro sanitario (Not a narcotic or psychotropic drug or does not contain them, and is not already a COFEPRIS registered medication) and select Modalidad D.- Medicamentos destinados a uso personal (Form D : Medications intended for personal use) (COFEPRIS-01-010-D): Modalidad D.- Medicamentos destinados a uso personal (COFEPRIS-01-010-D) This will open a PDF file in another window on your browser. Under the Formato heading, click on the button labeled Autorizaciones, Certificados y Visitas. Authorization Forms This will open a Microsoft Word file, which is the permit form that must be filled out. Instructions for filling out the form, including the required fields, will appear if you click on the button immediately adjacent. The completed form must be taken to your local COFEPRIS office for processing before the shipment is made. Good luck, Don

  19. Not all foreigners came here to be retired, you know. You just happen to live in a place where the demographic of foreigners is mainly retired. Not all communities with a large ex-pat population are like that. It's definitely helpful to use a facilitator or lawyer for complicated legal matters, just as you probably would anywhere. But it's only if you don't speak adequate Spanish that you need help with simple things like drivers' licenses or a simple TR renewal.

  24. The main point Virgo lady's CDC information makes is that the bug is much more prevalent than the numbers suggest. The flip side is these data suggest the percentage of really serious cases in terms of the total is not nearly as high as suspected earlier. Yes this virus is much worse than some of the periodic flu episodes we've seen although I would wonder if the 1918 pandemic was more than a little similar to this one. It too was highly infectious and quite likely to kill the impaired and old. In any case, it is clear government's ability to do much about it is pretty limited. Be a good personal risk manager but don't let fear rule you and ruin the great quality of life we have here. Interesting piece in this week's GDL Reporter (page 4) about how the bars in GDL are complaining about the businesses that hold restaurant licenses but do little cooking and relay on selling booze and entertainment being allowed to open while they are forced to stay shut. IMO it is a fair complaint, we have one in our neighborhood that is empty during the dinner hour and doesn't get busy until the noise, drinking and dancing starts. It is no accident that as soon as bars were allowed to open the number of cases flared up. Don't fool yourselves into thinking these faux restaurants are any less dangerous than the bars that remain shut. Avoid them and avoid the people who hang out in them.

  25. All I want people to do is to just connect the dots, just connect the dots folks! Lets shed some light on the article that Virgo Lady just posted. This highly contagious virus known as Covid-19 which some sources quote it to be up to 10 times more contagious and deadly than the common flu, as of now it currently has infected up to 2% of the general population or heck, lets go with the highest figure out of New York, it has infected roughly 7 % of the population, it is common knowledge that this virus has been massively infecting people in the US since late December and or early January. According to the most reliable statistics from the CDC less than 1% of Americans that get this virus die, and 80% of those that do die, they die due to preexisting illnesses. We do not have a vaccine yet for Covid-19 and will probably never have a reliable vaccine. The current mortality rate in the US is slightly higher than a very bad flu year and yet there is a flu vaccine that about 50% of the American population take annually. The flu virus generally runs from October to May, the Coronavirus has run from late December to now, almost entering in July. Most recent reporting is acknowledging that the mortality rate is declining rapidly around the globe. The flu hits us every year, when did you believe that the infection rate was at only 7% of the population? Connect the dots folks! Generally the flu goes through the entire population and most people catch it to varying degrees more or less, it runs through families. Even a large number of the vaccinated still catch the flu every year. If the infection rate for Covid-19 is at between 2 to 7 percent of the general population after 7 months and the death rate is under 1%, when will you begin to realize that something ain't adding up folks? Is it possible that we have all been duped? They are also reporting that after those massive protests, there have not been any verifiable data to suggest a surge to date. I guess things will look different after the election, perhaps. Don´t believe all the opinions in the articles, within any article, most of the content is just noise, study the numbers alone. The numbers will tell a very different story.

  30. Since nobody actually responded to the opening post we decided to update our own opinion. Having had the opportunity to experience Chinatown eateries in Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Montreal, New York and Boston* (*the very best) we feel that we know and appreciate Chinese food. We ordered for delivery last week. They close at 7:00p.m. and we were told that we would have our order delivered just before 7:00p.m. We ordered 2 orders of Egg-Rolls; an order of their "House" Lo-Mein; an order of their "House" Egg Foo Young and an order of their Moo Goo Guy Pan. Total Price:$560.00MN - Suggested tip for driver $30.00MN (Ridiculous!). Our order arrived at 6:55p.m. Everything was well packaged and hot. (Sides of Hot Mustard, Plum Sauce, Chili Sauce) As there were only two of us there was sufficient of everything for a full meal the following day. The best food and value of all that we have had delivered during the "shut down". That includes: Blue Rose, Tepetate Pian Thai and Bruno's. (We also liked all three of the other restaurants but we now, definitely feel that some of the recent Min Wah posts are "totally suspect"!!) Oh yes, we tipped the driver appropriately! The order of Egg Foo Young (which is the best we've ever eaten) in the delivery container was still appropriately "hot" 45 minutes after delivery!

I just winged it at the border, they made me unload some things and after about 20 minutes told me to put it all back and ended up charging 1500 pesos to continue. As long as you don't have a load of new expensive items its pretty easy I think for permanentes There is a rule which allows a one time load of things to brought down for permanentes but I didn't want to hassle with any paperwork

  35. Run a search here on moving to get tips on what to bring. When we moved here 12 years ago we brought everything. It was damned expensive but at that time there was a lot less available here than there is now. We also had all custom made furnishings that fit this house perfectly. Since you already have a place here don't you already have it furnished? We found the best stuff we brought were kitchen things, electronics and tools.

  37. If you posted which brand of the on demand water heater you have then you might get some relevant replies. Plumbers in general at lakeside are familiar with tank type (deposito) water heaters that basically have only one part, the combination gas valve with pilot. Simple. On demand heaters are a good choice in some applications but not all. On demand heaters are far more complicated with pressure switches, thermal switches, reduced flow ports, electronic pilots, computer chips, and/or batteries etc. To add to the confusion, there are dozens of models and brands manufactured in China and then rebranded for export. To further add to that confusion is that many brands are frequently upgraded with little or no parts availability for past models. To further add to that confusion, we have tinaco low pressure systems in Mexico along with pressurized systems with pumps. To further add to that confusion is if you are using untreated hard water, then be prepared for frequent maintenance. All of these issues make diagnostics far too complicated for the average plumber at lakeside. Technical assistance may be available per the manufacturer via email. Off the top of my head, I would think the tier one products like Bosch, Calorex, or Rheem would have a solid technical support network. Hopefully your problem will be a simple fix,

  40. Actually....I was the only patient in the waiting room, when the lady came out of the exam room holding her little fluffy dog. After she left I questioned the receptionist and was told she held the dog on her lap throughout the procedure. Next, my turn. Candy walked me right into the same exam room!! There was no time to have done a true cleaning....possible. I expressed my dismay and left.. I don't really care if the dog is a trained emotional support dog or not, it's a dog and I don't want a dog sharing the dental space with me. I live dogs and have many, but come on already...,
