  1. I was wondering the same thing. How about responding to the request rather than standing back and throwing spitballs. Or, just refrain from responding.

  2. Such intense criticism and judgment! The person asked for suggestions on glass replacement, not for your opinion of how they should live.

  3. The thermometer they are forcing the businesses to buy are $2500 pesos and up not some toy from FB. You have obviously not seen the protocols that have been forced on these people. The useless mat for $1000 pesos as well as the high cost for the thermometer ain't chump change for people barely hanging on that have had zero income for quit a while. And no they don't have time because in this case time is of the essence. Some small businesses have already closed permanently go support their families harryb or help some that may still make it. Missouri has nothing to do with the misery HERE, except that the pronunciation is similar.

  4. people see things from their own point of view. Often the truth, and I should put quote marks around the word truth, is in the eye of the beholder and the people involved. I have little if any faith in the legal and court system of Mexico. From my experience it is a waste of time and thousands and thousands of pesos. As far as I am concerned, I am going to go with the person or business it gives me the best quality service in the best financial deal. I am not going to make moral judgments , or ethical ones . It's like saying that a restaurant is owned by the mafia, and that may be true, but if the food is great and the prices are fair, I will go there. Just my opinion.

  5. The are actually called powder post beetles. I told my husband about this post, showed him the picture and after 40+ years of being in the furniture business he knew exactly what it is. Remove the chair from the area as the beetles will infest your sofa and if they are not already in the wood.

  6. The OP started this thread because the last one got highjacked. So you come along and attempt to take this one off track too. Instead of talking about positive experiences at Min Wha let’s all start talking about vicious reviewers. You even begin your post by admitting you are giving people something to get fired up about and end with goading them. The irony is you charging people with taking a thread off topic and attacking other posters while doing exactly the same thing. Just start your own thread about vicious restaurant reviewers and leave this one alone.

  7. The OP doesn't have termites, they're post hole beetles as i pictured.Termites and carpenter ants show totally different droppings Sunfan is correct that I have 55+ years experience with antiques. All the Mexicans I have talked with, including some exterminators call everything that eats/destroys wood termitos. Don't waste your time talking to hardware, paint stores and wood sellers. I have used exterminators to deal with anything like this. Posthole beetles, carpenter ants and termites. You can start by having one of these pros tent your furniture with chemicals at their shop for at least 2 weeks. I've had that done twice and pretty much only the adults got whacked and the larva problem was still there because they are down deep so when I used my injection method in the holes that finished the job nicely.

  11. Totally agree. Government is now a dictatorship. When the government is afraid of the people, this is freedom. When people are afraid of government. This is tyranny. Some famous person said that. Don't remember who.

  16. The ignore user function does not work at all. The two posters I am trying to ignore post multiple times per day in their own little back and forth echo chamber. So much content, hard to ignore without help. Already belong to the forums where they are banned for life and yet still ridiculed.

  17. Having owned a furniture store and several antique stores I am not exactly illiterate on the subject. If applied to the bottom of the furniture the kerosene does not really show and will evaporate in a week or two. The kerosene gets the poison deep where the larva is and will kill it when it eats the wood. The preferred way to kill the larva is in a kiln as they cannot survive when the temperature gets above 120 degrees F' In Oklahoma when the temperature got over 100 degrees outside, I would put the furniture in my car with all the windows rolled up and parked in the sun. 30 minutes is supposed to take care of the problem but I always left for several hours. If a person can figure how to get the temperature over 120 degrees on the furniture for a sustained time the problem will be taken care of.

  19. These are the real thing like NOB and Europe and the first I've had since leaving Canada. Have you seen the Smokehouse smoker? Had Tony's and being skinless they can't even compare.Even smoked turkey leg from Soriana and Walmart is better than his. Here in Mexico the skin is removed because making chicharron is more lucrative. I hope Smokehouse decides to continue doing them and then I don't need to buy Tony's and the turkey legs ever again.

  23. Let me give the haters something to get fired up about this morning . We have a lot of good food lakeside , some definitely poor food and even a little really good food .I don't understand why some people have to be so vicious when reviewing a dining experience . Min Wah is a perfect example .I have lived here for nearly 10 years and have eaten at Min Wah many many times during that period and got ONE less than enjoyable meal .Am I the luckiest guy lakeside , did I win the food lottery , I think not . My point is some people use the term inedible , terrible , worst I ever ate etc .Really . The only inedible meal I've had here was a pizza that the meat had gone bad .If you eat somewhere and don't like it why not just say so instead of trying to ruin a business . A simple , I didn't care for it should do and let people try it and decide for themselves . If your post turns people away instead of just giving information you are effecting the lives of the owners and employees and their family . If you don't like a place just don't go , why try to poison others ? There is a well known , long established steak house here that many diners love . My wife and I can't seem to get a decent steak there so we just don't go . I don't try to deter anyone else just because I don't care for it . OK fire away if you feel the need . You know who you are and I'm sure you'll try to justify your nasty reviews before getting off on something completely off topic and attacking your fellow posters .

  24. BENNOS is open, same place in libramiento where Pemex is. phone no. 376 766 5933. Sign will be replaced soon. Was misteriously taken away. MtnMama and Mainecoons thank you so much for your support. It was a pleasure having you as clients. And yes there is a lawsuit against Luis, looks like he intended to buy Bennos, but he just took the database, the company's phone and some of the tools and equipment to do his own thing. BENNOS has been around for more than 10 years and will continue offering excellent quality service lakeside

  28. You think I do not know Spencer? Geesh I send him business regularly. He and his wife have been here in San Miguel with us. There have been times he has been unable to renew FMM's stating offices closed and FMMs were to be stopped at end of April. And he stated: "Immigration has been reissuing tourist visas for 180 days from date of issuance, not from the date that the old visa expired." That creates a huge issue for people when elsewhere they are issued with a full 180 days. Adios

  29. I have clients who come to SMA from Chapala to renew FMM's and car permits. The most recent was in the past week with no issues driving. And the point is which you missed is there is a huge lack of consistency when Spencer states INM is closed as obviously it is not elswhere!!! And there are options vs being illegal and car subject to confiscation and insurance null and void in the event of an accident.

  32. Back to the corned beef. I just gave them a packaging machine and bags to make it consumer friendly and also suggested a bit better trimming. Also gave him Ian's package of nitrate salt. the next batch should be ready in 10 days and the restaurant making it is none other than THE SMOKEHOUSE. About a week ago I told Amador that a lot of us miss real skin and fat on smoked pork hocks weighing 1 kilo or less. He brought one today and it looks and smells fantastic. Ready to eat so I'm just going to warm it in the oven unless I decide to cross cut the skin and fat to do it Bavarian style, crisp skin and fat. Will post a report with pics after having it for dinner tonight. Life is good!!!

  33. After the high wind yesterday evening, the Ajijic weather station showed the highest gust for the evening of only 26 miles per hour. I don't know how fast the wind actually was at my home at the top of Juarez in Ajijic. But I'm guessing that it was a lot faster than 26 miles per hour.

  35. If that is your response to me,then you truly don't get it. You mentioned gov't support for these people when I said "you don't get it",nothing to do with what you and many of us are doing to help without gov't support. This thermometer and special doormat is a stupid unnecessary burden placed on people barely hanging on by their fingernails by GOVERMENT. I took care of the thermometer problem for her and delivery of it will be done to her this AM. And I won't go away. pedro kertesz

  36. When one sits on the sidelines and isn't a player in the game and shouts at the referee and players for no reason other than they are bored maybe they should get off their fat ### and join the game. The players aren't bored but quite the opposite.

  37. No, and as a member of this web board you should know that. Also the board has an ignore feature you access through the drop down menu under your name in the right hand top of the screen. Participation is voluntary and free of charge. No need to hang around if you find it uninteresting. My degrees are in engineering. I read and study a lot of diverse sources as well. Always looking to learn something new.

  43. ---- when they're down for the count already. Hairdresser in Chapala Centro was just given the stack of document's to fill out in order to open her shop and told she must buy a forehead thermometer[cost $2500p] and a special mat for her entrance which is only available in Guadalajara from somebody's cousin I suspect. There has been virtually no access and parking to and near her shop for months and she just learned that the sidewalk in front will be ripped up again due to more incompetence. Seems like just another way of killing off small business. Our Presidente said he's out to help Chapala business???? How is this help???

  44. Look at the OP's foto of his bamboo/rattan chair and then tell us that you would do this if it were yours. Your method would not do anything to bugs in bamboo except make it stink like haitch. The beetles aren't there long ,just enough time to emerge out of an exit hole they have made as my foto has shown so you may kill them ruin the furniture and not get the larva which are deep down and munching wood to their hearts content. Boy there sure is a lot of lack of knowledge being posted here with some crazy ideas, some quite destructive.

  45. An old fashion remedy which works well. Mix an insecticide with kerosene or turpentine and spray the infected areas. The kerosene will deeply penetrate the wood and the beetles will be killed and the larvae as they eat the wood.
