  1. The OP says call the neighbor Sara. Then it tells you about the guy who needs the place to stay. Since this is short term emergency housing telling you about him is part of his references. An Air B.B. host with a super host rating and his own beautiful home is very likely to be a good tenant. The OP is telling you he is a long-time, known member of the community if you have a spare room to offer. The guy’s mother died recently and the roof of his house collapsed. He needs a break.

  2. You just proved my point. "CV Nazis". So you're comparing some of your fellow citizens to "Nazis" because they are listening to health care professionals and might be concerned for their well-being. You may disagree, but to equate people you disagree with as the "Nazis" is childish and reveals a person with a total lack of self-awareness and irony, not to mention empathy.

  3. We stayed because this is our home now and whatever happens to us will happen here. We have excellent doctors and hospitals available to us. Our medical insurance is here and they notified us early on for us not to worry because they were covering the virus just like they would any other illness with the same deductible. We have help here if we need it that we could not have in the States. Our housekeepers have been with us for 15 years and if we needed anything they would be here in a heart beat as we would be for them as well. Right now they are being paid to stay home because we are able to manage on our own but if one of us had a fall, or some other illness than the virus where we needed help they would be here helping. We can call our doctors on their cell phones and they answer us themselves. The weather is much better than anywhere in the States where we have relatives that we might stay with and we have 3 precious dogs that we certainly would not want to leave behind even though the housekeeper takes good care of them when we are gone. So, all in all we are very happy sheltering in place right here at home. BTW, so very sorry that there are those on this board that think it is okay to talk about anything they see fit but that no one else can without snarky comments. I believe they are the ones with time on their hands. Many of us do have a lot of time on our hands and it is nice to just connect with someone whether or not you know them once in a while. Thanks for asking.

  5. We live HERE. This is our home. We own it, we have been here permanently for 10+ years, and currently cannot think of anywhere I would rather be. (Other than the big, long vacation I planned/paid for to escape the May heat and had to cancel.) Where would we go ? We were visiting family when TSHTF in the USA, and all we wanted to do was get back here to Mexico. I just cannot imagine having to be up there all this time in a place not my own and imposing on people. We are happy here, have our doggies, all things familiar that we need to make us happy and content and comfortable. As long as we are together, we are fine. We are too old to be out and about that much, as we have no car (by choice), but walk to get everything we need. Our day to day life is basically the same as before CV. Changes are in only personal services- housekeepr, doggy day care, pedicures, massages and an occasional lunch out with girlfriends. I do rely more on shopping delivery services.

  9. Gulirak , I am from France and I am in contact with family members daily. no one can tell you what wil lhappen. The state of emergency has been extended until July which means the government reserve the right to tell people to stay home, shut down travel and borders until July so far. . They are implementing a slow return to work in the red zones in the east and Paris and less restrictivein the green zone where there are less cases and no one knows what will happen. The government is closely monitering new cases and death and will decide what to do next. . Unless you have a need to go to France at that time ,postpone or cancel the trip until you know what will happen. So far it is not looking butpeople have towork so they are reopenng the schools so that parents can go to work and are watching for a second wave... I sure woud not make plans for this fall. Also you are from a country that has the corona virus so what is the need to go and export it again. So far travelling has proven that it is the best way to contaminate others Stay put until this thing is over.. Right now the Parisians with second homes are not welcome in the towns where they have a second home and are fined if they are found to be going there and you are thinking of travelling in September or October coming from a country that has a high contagion rate.. stay away please no one needs more contamination.

  11. It almost sounds like you're saying people stay here because they have to, rather than want to. Not so in this family's case: We moved to Mexico sixteen years ago and have been back to the U.S. once, for four days, for a family funeral. We were happy to get back "home"....which is right here. It's better on so many levels, from medical care to the general attitude of those who live here.

  12. Bingo. Yes the outrage around here is pretty selective. Some here have forgotten or choose to ignore that informing on one's neighbors was very common and strongly promoted in Nazi Germany, and indeed it is a a very strong characteristic of totalitarianism in general.

  14. Respectfully: From what I read, every health expert in almost every country says social-distancing and hand washing are the two most critical things to do to avoid COVD-19. With that said, I'm wondering why, probably mostly expats) would put themselves and others at risk by going out to a restaurant where distancing is nearly impossible. How do you order w/o getting close? I don't see food being put on an empty table 6 feet away and customers going to get the food. Just my comment/question and no more.

  16. If you truly admire traderspoc and what he's doing then you wouldn't constantly be posting this crap. It's not helping raise funds for a worthwhile cause and the betterment of Mexican youths who might not otherwise have a chance like this. You are plainly sabotaging this effort. Take your own advice and see if this board wants you as a member, but hey, you won't get remuneration. Have Hammers has been very successful without the Business models you are touting. What the haitch is your motivation, in any event?

  17. No, what I see is a cartoon depicting a man playing with his daughter away from others being harassed by one of these CV Nazis who BTW isn't wearing their mask properly. Why don't you explain the irony for all of us? You do know people are being openly encouraged to rat on their neighbors, yes? That is what we are being reminded of with this cartoon https://massprivatei.blogspot.com/2020/04/police-app-encourages-people-to-report.html And what I see in your response is a tendency to personally attack because you don't agree with the opinion being expressed by the cartoonist and myself in posting it. Try and remember everyone who doesn't buy your point of view doesn't necessarily lack capability OR is an id%ot.

  19. I live in the center of Ajijic, and I work. So I am contstantly driving and seeing the carretera, at all times of day. The bike path is used by TONS of people, most of whom are workers going to and from jobs. It was used before the improvements, and now it will be even more. IMO all of the foreigners on this forum who have condemned the project and called it a "bikepath for nobody" are flat clueless, driving occassionally in their cars, and for whatever reason unable to see all the traffic in the bikepath. Go take a look at it during "rush hour".

  20. 9/23/1946 - 4/28/2020. This is Theodore Jack Ferguson also known as Dad, Ted, Teddy, and Grandpa. He was a son, a brother, a father, a grandfather, a husband and an uncle. Our own five sons have grown into amazing men with amazing families of their own. His influences are part of them now. Teddy was a gentle man with the softest heart and a caring soul. He cried during movies and had a smile that lit up his face. The ocean and a surfboard were his greatest friends. He was an entertainer in his soul. Music was one of his greatest loves. Ted sang, played guitar and drums and loved being on stage. The memory of him playing drums with his fingers on the steering wheel while driving brings a smile to our faces. Performing at La Bodega and at Lake Chapala Baptist Church and being in various stage productions were some of his greatest joys when we lived in Ajijic. He was drawn to young people and served as a mentor not only to his grandchildren but to youth groups and youth sports. We lost him but the memory of the life he lived surround us. There is peace in that. Ted is survived by his sons Brent, Brian, John, Josh and Travis as well as his ex-wife Linda Magel and 18 grandchildren.

  27. My thoughts are that there are a "significant" number of the SILENT majority (like you and me) that are better off than their GEN X kids and have a better pension and investments than they are likely to achieve . Whilst many of "us" may have chosen to come south of the border for financial consideration, a considerable number were not so stressed. And if what I hear from my Realtor is correct, the #1 reason for folks returning NOB is HEALTH.( I have better coverage NOB than I do here)..........and #2. Family considerations............... and #3?? A couple of my less wealthy friends returned NOB and qualified for Section 8 housing and living in "grand" style and use Mediaid and other benefits. The downside of course is THE WEATHER . Just different strokes for different folks, not one size fits all.. And similarly many Mexicans who had have gone NOB for financial reason have decided to return South for the same basic reasons...have families here, have a good retirement/investment package and the weather. Why do some "experts" come up with so many complicated reasons from THEM doing something different to US!!!!!

  33. no our Mexican accountant said we do not qualify for Govt help Theses donations will get us through to July 1st 2020, these are uncertain times. also remember, we pay Lalo and Lalito on the books, and 37 % of their salary is IMSS, federal taxes. etc. When the school is running full time, cost wood, tools for the students, rent, etc comes to about $88,000 pesos a month. we are one of the few lakeside charities that are called a regular A.C. where all yearly filings, taxes, licenses are up to date on the 14th of this month payroll taxes are due for the month April, you get penalties if not paid on time. many local charities are run out of back pocket, and do file their yearly papers. most are not A.C.s We have a signed lease that the board of directors has to pay if we have no donations are there to pay the rent. This is all about the kids and changing their future. Thank you for your donations and keeping our school solvent and a going concern

  36. I am an expat and must say I am impressed, now that they have got major portions through Chapala with trees and street lights. It looks very nice and is being used by many cyclists. Can't wait to see the rest once it is finished. The one thing that disturbs me is all the cars that park on the bike path through the village of Ajijic. The Chapala Transito could make a fortune here if they gave out tickets.

  38. Your insinuation is that more than these two people are getting paid? The board does not draw even one centavo for anything as they are TOTAL non paid volunteers. I certainly hope that you and vistalake do not turn off people who want to donate to a good cause. Why don't you go bother some of the other helping organizations and treat all of them equally with your non helpful questions and then you can pat yourself on the back as the saboteur supreme.

  42. Really...to be walking around on the street with nobody around and wearing a mask? To have helicopters observing us. It makes no sense. I am sure I will get all types of criticism for this as most cannot tolerate a view point that does not agree with mainstream. It all defies logic. It's really simple. People who have compromised immune systems and feel they are at risk can take all their precautions, including staying home. They can stay where they feel secure and control the ins and outs in their own homes. They can wear masks or whatever it is that makes them feel secure. The rest can make their own decision. We are adults, not children who need a government to run our lives and have police helicopters flying over and threatening us.

  43. U.S. citizens (including expats) are not so far removed from the Mexican model of families staying close and helping one another: maybe 2 generations at most. It started turning into what it is now when the children of (usually) large farm families left for jobs in the big cities. In reality, it was a simple decision for survival. Even with the best intentions, it is hard to see how being together in itself will ensure survival of Mexican families where the wage earners have lost their jobs. This situation we are living in is unprecidented in our lifetimes and will create more hardship than any of us have seen...anywhere.
