  1. Please be aware that many expats travel extensively. They should self-quarantine for a minimum of two weeks when returning to Mexico. If you know people who have been abroad, please make it crystal clear that they put others at great risk if they do not do this. We all know by now that people can be carrying the virus without being symptomatic.

  2. There are not enough tests kits for the U. S. and other countries. Mexico no one knows. This is a tourists country plus all the people trafficad through this country into the states there has to be many more than reported. Don't touch the tope people. I am now being just a little more cautious than before because I own a nursing home. At this point it could be anywhere. I make weekly trips to Guadalajara I see no panic buying. To sound like a broken record just follow all the advice of professionals. Wash your hands as soon as you get home after touching money. This will pass and be old news in a couple of months. I hope, I hope...

  3. Please, anyone returning to Mexico after traveling , quarantine yourself for two weeks. It is a small price to pay if it could save someone's life

  4. This established restaurant on the main walk in Tlaquepaque is lovely inside and offers an interesting choice of steaks, seafood, and Mexican fare. It is not cheap; none of the nice restaurants are. But, that's what we wanted. Here's why I'm posting this: a family member is visiting, and after breakfast at Pancho's the day before, he was wondering how that place gets away with such poor... everything. Burnt English muffins under an amazingly sloppy and exploded pair of Eggs Benedict, with watery sauce; burnt pancakes, too. No salt and pepper on the table; almost impossible to catch a waiter's eye; having to ask repeatedly for items. We go out to eat for a nice experience, and we don't get an apology, a recompense, or anything in return for our money. At Casa Fuerte (and I've eaten there before), the service was impeccable. Impeccable. Several servers always responding to our needs before we had them. Delicious food served rapidly; all condiments and appetizers and side dishes brought to the table when they should have been, no need to ask for anything, and in fact not even any hovering. Just a pleasant experience from the time we entered until the time everyone thanked us on our way out the door. We left a substantial tip, because it was bloody well worth it. Nothing compares around here, not even Tango where the service is usually very fast but mostly frenzied, with serving staff knocking into elbows and tables constantly. We left Fuerte more relaxed than ever, not a thing to complain about, and great memories. Most impressive dish: queso fundido. 95p. A searingly-hot molcajete with a tomatillo sauce bubbling away, and a huge chunk of cheese placed into the liquid and masterfully chopped up with fork and spoon while we looked on. The cheese melted into massive gooey lumps and we had great fun spooning it out onto tostadas.

  5. Let's hope the local expat population will emulate the Mexican talent for coping instead of running around like the panicked chickens north of the border. For starters this is very good advice.

  7. Plenty of youtubers with Firestick tutorials. I pay for an iptv that works great but there are a few freebies like TvTap. You really don't need a vpn for apps you sideload, just for official Firestick apps that only work in the US. Anyways here are a couple of good youtube channels with the good stuff. 8. Ate there again because that is where our friends wanted to go. Same experience: Slow and erratic service, food came out cold. I ordered fajitas, it took another 10 minutes to get the flour tortillas that go with it. Really, I can't figure out the attraction of this place. It sure isn't food, service or price.

  9. Someone told me that there is a new official office/service available at Guadalajara airport where you can obtain an FMM without having to leave the country and re-entering. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

  10. I've been waiting since May 14th, 2018 when I paid a year in advance. The installer, , Juan Jose, was fabulous with a great sense of humour. I told him I couldn't accept the modem because it's white and everything else on my desk is black. We had a good giggle. The modem is hardwired to my laptop and I'm, finally, a happy camper. 12. Open Circle Suspends Its Programs The Open Circle Steering Committee has decided that until further notice we are suspending our weekly Sunday morning program at LCS. Even though there are few confirmed cases in Mexico, we feel it is not worth the risk of exposing our vulnerable audience to the coronavirus. More and more medical and scientific experts are advising to avoid large groups. Because our audience is one of the largest gatherings at Lakeside, we would rather err on the side of safety. In the meantime, are hoping to video the speakers and post the videos on our YouTube channel.

  13. When you go to Oxxo to pay, your name will appear on the screen, that is if the correct code is entered.

  14. If the code that you present to Oxxo is not entered properly then, yes, you have a problem. Before the transaction, I pointedly tell the person entering it that I want to see it and check it before it goes through. Never had a problem.

  15. I order a lot from Mercado Libre and what I like about them is I can pay cash at Oxxo rather then using my debit/credit card as Ferret said above. In addition, I never have them deliver to my home but rather at the DHL office in Ajijic, like that I do not have to hang around.....

  16. I've ordered many items with credit cards, some items well over 10k pesos which can't easily be paid at oxxo. Often times payments can be spread out over multiple months interest free. They have excellent security systems in place

  19. The real question is why you would want to have the account changed to a tenants name? In Mexico it would be extremely rare. Normally the phone and electricity stays in the homeowner's name here

  21. That's a great article. I'm sad that they're removing Rivera from the billete de 500. It's just as tragic as when Bank of Canada redesigned the $5 bill and removed the hockey scene.

  22. Here is a link to the app. https://www.att.com/features/myatt-app.html Darn near anything you want to do can be done on an app these days. Personally, my cell is my lifeline. I move money on apps, pay CFE and Telmex via apps, and buy airtime from Telmex on an app. If she's not using a smartphone yet, she should make the switch. Living here is 100 times easier with one than without.

  23. Took a drive out to CHINA INN on Saturday past. (Man, that highway is nice right now. And drivers are actually following the rules of road etiquette, allowing passing in the extra wide lanes.) Anyway, we ordered four dishes, and each was delicious. Some were priced at only 80p; others up to 110p if shrimp was included. We had a mixed chow mein, shrimp chow mein, S&S chicken, tempura shrimp (superior) and salmon sushi. I forget that each dish is more than enough for one, served on a platter with a huge helping of fried rice. We purposely ordered extra so there would be lots of take-home leftovers. The thing that continues to impress me about the China Inn, apart from the friendly owner and the speed of delivery, is that each dish tastes unique. The shrimp chow mein had a massive amount of seasoned shrimp, belying the low price; the mixed chow mein had a nice smokey flavour, and the S&S chicken was spot on. The sushi was the only letdown; they just don't use sushi rice, and that ruins it.

  24. Any Mexican cook who can manage to come up with a bad taco really should throw in the towel. One of the things I've always liked about travelling through Mexico is that you can stop at almost any little roadside place and get some decent food, unlike taking a road trip through the US or Canada.
