  3. THE MEDIA’S FEAR VIRUS IS THE REAL DANGER NOT THE CORONAVIRUS Published March 3, 2020 | By Dr. Jack Wheeler I’d like to suggest considering the latest bulletin on Covid-19 from the New England Journal of Medicine: https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMe2002387?query=RP Almost all deaths attributed to Covid-19 are quite elderly, in their 70s and 80s/90s and/or with compromised immune systems. There are no deaths reported among the young, i.e., under 15 years old. Another consideration. The genetic vector by which the virus infects the body is the ACE2 receptor gene that codes for an enzyme involved in constriction of the lungs. As in all genes, there are slightly different variations or “polymorphisms.” Turns out that ethnic Chinese have one producing more of the enzyme than any other ethnic group in the world. Further, smoking tobacco greatly accelerates the enzyme’s lung constriction. No people on the planet come close to Chinese men on how much they smoke cigarettes. Which is one main reason why thousands of Chinese have died and not elsewhere, and many more Chinese men than women. The same, albeit to a bit lesser degree, applies to South Koreans. Bottom line is: If you’re under 70 in good health, not Asian and don’t smoke, avoid being in an infected area and wash your hands if you are, you’re gonna live. Oh, and for your mental well-being, ignore the media and TV news. The media is far more dangerous than this latest flu virus. Its principal product is no longer news but fear-mongering crises. Franklin Roosevelt’s most famous quote, from his 1933 Inaugural Address, was: “We have nothing to fear but fear itself.” Today that translates to, “We have nothing to fear but the media’s fear-mongering.” We all need to vaccinate ourselves from the Media Fear Virus.

  5. Spanish Below Dear Supporters, Today, we had a very productive meeting with the Chapala Director of Municipal Transito. The good news is as follows: He agreed to six handicap spaces with signs, ramps and painting at the Malecon (2+2+2), between the pier and the amphitheater. Three similar spaces at the plaza current location and one space by the delegation across from the bank (4). He asked that a copy of our petition go to the director of DIF and the availability of legal permit signs be developed there. This needs to be scheduled. The bad news is that we will have to pay part of the materials cost. 7. I recently moved Lakeside at the beginning of February. In the short time I’ve been here I have met some wonderful animal lovers who, each in their own way, are helping homeless, hungry dogs and cats in the neighborhood. I would like to encourage more people here to consider helping the dedicated rescue groups and shelters in our area. There are many ways to volunteer, such as walking rescue dogs or spending time with adoptable kitties, being a foster mom or dad (always needed and immensely gratifying), sponsoring a dog or cat and also tax-deductible monetary donations for food, spays, neuters and medical care … your help will be invaluable! Even leaving food and water out in place for dogs and cats is a good start. If you have been thinking about how to help but weren’t sure where to begin, here is a list of some of the Lakeside rescue groups and shelters along with their contact information. I hope this will be helpful as a starting point for you. Thank you for your consideration! “Saving one animal won’t change the world, but it will change the world for that one animal." 10. I also got mine this a.m. So much easier than dealing with the long lines in Guadalajara. Only a small delay when the machine used to coat the license ran out of the film. Black and white CURP accepted no problem. This office also has a copy machine if you don't get them in advance.

  12. See if you can buy a finger oxygen sensor to give you an idea of what your concentration is. It should be above 90%. If you’ve had blood work done check your hemoglobin. You should have it above 12. https://www.amazon.com/Beurer-Fingertip-Saturation-Automatic-PO30/dp/B00LO3DCAC/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=3615TI2JZEVKX&keywords=oxygen+saturation+monitor&qid=1583347028&sprefix=Oxygen+%2Caps%2C235&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFKRVpHMFJOMEFCMlMmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAwNzUxMzVBRFhDOVlVVzEzTTEmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDIyMDgyMUVHTkY5M1dCVUhJOCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

  14. We have found a shortage of good restaurants in Chapala. All the restaurants with great views of the lake are overpriced with food quality not matching the price. The Paris restaurant just south of the plaza is clean and not to bad but the Ajijic area has much better restaurants.

  21. There is no lack of Mexican restaurants, only a lack of restaurants owned by Mexicans. I suppose that sounds flip, so I will add that places like El Sombrero serve "Mexican food" at three times the price and apparently 1/5 the taste of any roadside stand. And a little restaurant on Colon opposite the plaza serves lovely Mexican food at several times the price of any typical Mexican restaurant. But there are places like Memo's on Hidalgo in Ajijic that serve amazing Mexican food, lovingly prepared over long periods of time.

  24. Good food, reasonable prices and you learn to tune out the noise. Only negative for us is that the service is a bit spotty. It's still a great place to go and conveniently located.

  27. Ask at a few different Farmacies. And then beware where you buy the medications. A urologist I saw last week thought part of my problem may have bee because i bought my medicine at Walmart. He said some farmacias sell products that are supposed to be the same but are actually inferior.

  29. Add to that the lack of bee populations to pollinate the almond trees, so hivers are trucking massive amounts of bees via 24-wheelers to different almond orchards so they can be fertilized. Not only is the dollar cost massive, and the added pollution unimaginable, the shipping is unsettling the bees so much that they are dieing off even faster. Happy, I think it's pajarete.

  30. Should meaning[ used to indicate obligation, duty or correctness, typically when criticizing someone's actions]. Seems like quit a few members believe that their simple life choices "should" be dictated to us board members, the vast majority of who are older than dirt. I don't think that " should" should even be used when you're trying to teach a 5 year old something. This may be "cheesy" on my part but I am "udderly" for the consumption of any sort of animal milk and its many byproducts, if one wishes to do so. May the udder be with you in Jalisco's favourite morning beverage,El Pajarete. Salud!😀
