  1. Well again sorry you took it that way. Would you like to keep telling me?

  2. This morning at about 9 30 am I received a call on our Magic jack line . An automated caller identified the source as the Social Security Administration .calling to let me know my S / S number had been associated with criminal activity and my account was about to be frozen . An agent would be on the line momentarily to discuss my problem....moments later the “ agent “ came on the line ....I told him I had no intention of discussing any supposed problem without identity verification . I asked for a phone and agent number saying I would call back...instant click . My point and warning is that after 30 years in the restaurant business dealing with these agencies SSA..IRS...etc.. they never call you ... they just send you hate mail..... continually!

  3. Its not that big of a deal to swap out one of the Telmex modems with a different brand, all you need to know is your username and password, if you don't have that you can call the 800 number and get it from them. After that you just need VCI and VPI settings (which are pretty standard) which you can find on the net and your good to go. I have set up a few different brands, mostly Tplink, and Dlink and they do have a few configuration options that seem to improve connectivity, personally my feeling on this is why pay for a modem when you can get a replacement from Telmex.

  5. And I was one of the customers that ComputerGuy helped. I got the usual run around with the Ajijic office giving me a SECOND dud modem and when I went back in with that one, they reached over the desk to give me a modem THAT I JUST OBSERVED HAD BEEN RETURNED. No way! They are not checking the functionality of modems just recycling them to other customers. Be warned! I ended up buying two modems on Mercado Libre and both work like a charm. The short story is that, if you've checked everything else, get CG in with a modem that he KNOWS works to confirm your suspicions. Then, fuggedabout modems from the Ajijic office. Call the 1-800 number and ask a tech there what brand and model number they suggest to use (for DSL or fibre) and go buy your own Telmex modem(s) from a reputable seller on Mercado Libre.

  6. Yes, and after four months of 0 cooperation from Telmex, the issue is (appears to be...it's only been 14 hours) resolved. We had fiber optic installed through Telmex at the beginning of November. We have speed...great speed and no issue with computers (wireless) making connection. The problem was TV streaming boxes buffering...consistent and persistent...so that we could only view maybe 45 seconds of tv then they would buffer for 60, on and on. We had a tech come and hard-wire/cable each tv, as some of those signals--while strong at the modem--were crappy to the tvs. That gave us speed, but still the buffering. We had Telmex out here (reluctant techs is being generous) several times and they blamed the box--all but a guy in Mexico who said that the packets of information looked like they were hanging somewhere before transmitting to us. We tried our box contact's box--and the boxes of friends that function perfectly well in their homes--did the same thing at our house, but when switching off my internet to Telcel 4G the issue did not appear, so not a box issue. The tech we hired to hard-wire (info below) spent hours on the line with Telmex (two days solid plus parts of 3 other days, including the cabling), and Telmex refused to send out another router, which seemed to be the only unverified possibility, since we get signal and speed from the new fiber optic cables. After four missed appointments (including two full day waits: 8-8 window) Mr. Charming came yesterday and I had my tech meet him. "it's not the modem, it's the box," I heard him say over and over. GUESS FRICKIN' WHAT????? It was a DEFECTIVE modem. After re-cabling, redoing passwords on all my gazillion devices, and rehooking up soundbars, I was in business and stayed up till 2 am catching up on my shows. We did drop a signal around 1 am but it went back up. If you've tried all the above, I'd try shrieking for a new modem. The info on my tech person: Oscar Castañeda 33 2162 6205. Young, teaches computer skills at the Prepa in Chapala, things logically and sequentially, punctual and (gasp! WhatsApps you when he is on the way) and is bilingual. If you call him, tell him JROD recommended him highly. PS Telmex local "techs" named Edgar and Juan José were worthless and cost me $$$$ and 3 months.

  8. I think how I think. You aren't going change that to late for that now And I even in a separate post after your message I made it clear it was an opinon and that should have made it clear enough. And it looked like someone else had already posted it was they thought an opinon so I wasn't the only one. Then it got into a fish named Eric. I say how I say and if it's wrong in your eyes then have me reported or something. I am not a English major and I could be very wrong in how exactly I say something but going off on somebody doesn't really help well in my case anyway Do you own or work in a store around here? That's what I Would like to know.

  9. It was an opinon. And I end with you think? I have no idea but it makes me think about it and I stated no fact other than some part of your electronic product has a chip in it prob from China. And the other fact I stated was them shutting down all over. That's not going to effect productivity and logistics etc? Again I haven't a clue. But I do read and I see things that effect the markets and even when some particular person makes a comment and it can effect say the peso value etc. I am NOT and I REPEAT NOT spreading rumors

  11. Do you want the heat value and light in the winter? If so, I would suggest an attractive retractable awning. Or you can fit your doors with something that is only put on during the hot months... sort of like screens but with UV resistant material instead of the screen that will give you the best of both worlds... kinda like a$$ backwards storm windows.

  12. the president of Mexico said this was/is "inhumane" and "discriminatory". He would not support this nor barring incoming flights. At last report, the Harbormaster was awaiting something. I wonder if he will personally go to greet and shake hands with every disembarking passengers. This was a "reliable" news post, not a Facebook story.

  13. Respirators, unless they are fit to your face to be air tight are not effective because as you breath in it pulls air in from around the mask. Yes, wash your hands often, cough/sneeze into your elbow, and train yourself not to touch your face (especially eyes) with your hands (harder than it sounds).

  14. On a related note, for those with really bad Infinitum service, the Telcel wireless cell modem can be a good option if fiber is not available or too $$$. Telmex - not Telcel - "can" provide one at n/c....IF one goes in and makes a good enough case, that the Infinitum is really bad.... thus saving the 2500 pesos purchase price. The setup process is a bit of a pain, the registration does not work via a Windows PC, one must use a cell phone, found this out the hard way.... However, it does work well, serves 5 devices, has both WiFi and ethernet connections, is only 399 pesos / month, and 10 meg download speed is the minimum, so streaming video is no issue at all. Uploads are more than fast enough as well.

  16. I remember those days. I am in the Raquet Club and was stuck with TelMex for years getting 5 Mbps download on good days and days to upload anything. Once Ilox came they ramped it up to around 9 Mbps down and .05 Mpbs upload. With Ilox, I usually get 48 Mpbs download with an occasional drop to 38. My upload is consistently 10,1 to 10.4 Mpbs upload. I'm very happy as it cost me just under 10 pesos more a month for far better speeds and service.

  17. You are asking the techs at the 1-800 number in Mexico City. They gave me a choice of two modems and I bought both on Mercado Libre. Those guys are good! I can honestly say that Telmex is pretty damn on the ball EXCEPT for the office here.

  18. Superlake carries SAF yeast. Been using it for several years now. It is excellent. I empty the package into Lock n Lock or Snapware container and store it in the freezer. It will last for at least a couple of years if you don't use it all up before that.

  28. Hi ComputerGuy, I used their interactive map and put an ajijic centro address and unfortunately it shows no coverage. Guadalajara looks great for coverage but nothing yet for the lakeside unless there interactive maps are not updated frequently. Thank you ComputerGuy for all your posts, they are very helpful and once I move over there in June hope to buy you a beer, cheers.

  31. We have several of our monthly checks direct deposited to Capital One with no problem at all. But we are depositing from within the U.S. I've found one of the best things we did was establish a legal address there and maintain full banking there as well as here. It gives great flexibility in managing funds no matter where you are. It does cost a little to have mail forwarding from the legal address but as far as banks and the IRS is concerned it is no problem working through there.

  32. Its Cat and Mouse. They block something and someone comes up with a way to unblock it. But I've had issues and changed locations from Seattle to Dallas and it worked again. But some companies are getting around Vpns. Like capital one. You can VPN but they somehow know your not in country and will not allow you to make a deposit. I also think Electronics are going to maybe slow down a bit. No pun intended. But where do all the chips come from? At least some part in your piece of electronic is a chip from China. And they are shutting down all over. These prices already high in MX may also begin to rise. You think? Heard this morning South Korea was starting to have some issues. That's where Samsung home is. Just keep fighting

  33. When in Chapala, we made no adjustments for altitude and the bread was just fine. However, it is crucial that the kneading be done properly. When you tire of kneading, just do it some more anyway. developing that elasticity is crucial to good texture and flavor. Proofing should also be done in a warm, still place, like a cupboard, idle microwave, closed box, etc. We use bakers yeast, purchased in 1 lb blocks and kept in the freezer. It lasts and lasts, and is always on hand, as it can be spooned out even when frozen. It is much more active than those little packets, which are often nearly dead.

  34. So what would be your recommendation? Should we do nothing and have no water soon? As it is, water is now being delivered 3 hours per day instead of 4. Next they will deliver water every other day, and by May the pump in the existing well will be above the water level. But sure, we should wait until someone can promise us water. Gimme a break.

  37. Not to mention information was sent house-to-house in BOTH Spanish and English and it pretty clearly laid out why a well was needed. There have also been e-mails sent. Is it inconvenient? Sure, but I hardly think this is some diabolic plot for the board to get a load of money out of everyone. Meanwhile, go to the meeting, ask questions until you're satisfied and then vote. FWIW, we've seen several boards come and go. It's a thankless task and it's a lot easier to sit on the outskirts and criticize rather than to be one of those who are actually trying to make a difference in the fracc. JMHO.

  38. Greetings from Tokio where Corona Virus is going around for now. We feel sorry but we could not be snow birds this time. Fortunately, I have not heard any news about Corona things in Mexico except beers so far. Here are few things I would like to mention from what I have heard about Corona virus. FYI, I had been in a medical field for many years so I will try to be neutral. As of today, # of infected person in Japan: 170 , # of death: 1 (80yrs old lady) # of recovered: 23 excluding 691 infected and 3 died passengers on board. # of int'l infected: 79,391 , # of deceased 2,696 , # of recovered 27,878 Death rate is not big as of SARS for now. But the death rate of elderly person with diabetes, coronary and/or pulmonary diseases is well over 80%. Infectivity of Corona is much much stronger than SARS. As 80% of infected person get slight attack and/or no symptom. Incubation periods vary for 5~6 days and 2 weeks. So you may have a great chance to get infected or transfer the virus to the other without awareness. It is very difficult to identify the chain of infections. Do not take this too serious but do not underestimate Corona virus which, I hope not but I am sure, will be arisen soon in Mexico. My advice to you: Go and get a bottle of ethanol disinfectant diluted with water (not 100% pure one that is less potent). Wash your hands with disinfectant. Once you hear the news in Mexico, stay away from the crowd and be a hermit until this incident is over. Personally, I doubt the effectively of masks with regard to the virus. Have a good day and buena suerte!

  39. The cheap ones you get at the pharmacy are indeed pretty useless, especially if they get wet. If we do get the bad virus, you need a much better mask. Oh by the way even with out the corona virus.......maybe someone can tell the people working in the bakeries at Sorriana and Walmart that it serves no purpose to just wear the mask at the mouth with the nose exposed. Bacteria and viruses are more likely to be inhaled thru the nose than the mouth. I tried, but they look at me like I am from Mars

  40. Follow the money and wear a mask, keep 2 meters distance and wash your hands, especially after handling paper/coin money.

  41. Well Eric, you will be pleased to know the Mexican government is right on top of this. They too found the temperature scanners were not accurate enough, so they have switched to the much more reliable anal thermometer method. Happy travels!

  42. So we should not feed hungry animals because they are not sterilized ? Not feeding them is not going to get them sterilized. I do not understand that thought process . there is free sterilization coming up soon in SJC and many scheduled in Chapala through out the year.

  43. This guy "goes after" everyone, anyone and anything, just posting willy nilly to get as many BUSINESS IMPRESSIONS as he can since his handle is his business. This is his only goal!!! A great marketing ploy but very irritating to others. He is by far the King of Posters here with 11,593 posts in a little under 7 years. That averages out to about 4.5 a day. Nice work if you can get it and as a guy with a marketing background, some grudging respect....but just know that we are on to you.

  46. Again, You do not end with "you think". Now, if you had said "because of Covid-19", or something like that, instead of simply a blanket statement about "shutting down" couched in a series of sentences about "chips from China" slowing down, we all might have understood your point. And you should not assume you offend me, simply because I disagree. That is simply a rhetoric intended to make me look as if I was intentionally causing a problem. I deal with suppliers from the East all the time. I also know how long it takes for import prices to be affected, and exactly which ones are going to suffer first, etc. etc. etc.
