  5. Many of you may know of Tony Moriarty's passing if you're in his and Allenda's facebook circle, but I wanted to share this for those who may not have heard. Tony & Allenda called lakeside and the Raquet Club home for nine years, loving Mexico, and only returning reluctantly NOB for some health issues. A good friend, a good man, a good husband, a good father. https://www.spryfuneralhomes.com/notices/AnthonyTony-Moriarty

  9. Your example pretty much covers it. As far as term, the law says a legally binding lease can not be for more than one year. However, I often put in stipulations about term, and as long as no one contests it legally, it's all fine. One has to assume that at the time of the contract, both parties are willing, obviously. And that can certainly change. (Last time a landlord when apecrap on me, we left at the end of the lease. We couldn't get all the furniture out, and when we turned up the next day with the truck, she had changed the locks. I called a locksmith, he came to break them open. She called the cops, we called the cops, we all went to jail. The judge heard our arguments, did not ask to see any paperwork, told her to let us in and never bother us again.) At the end of a lease, the landlord is allowed to charge whatever they want (or think they can get away with), as long as the tenants are new. As far as checking out the integrity of a new landlord, who the heck can tell without contacting previous renters? Even with a rental management agency, who knows. Our own experience with Crazy Lady is a perfect example: she was my Mom's best friend the first two years we lived there... then she decided we were rich and she deserved more money, and she became, truly, The Enemy.

  13. From EL PROCESO ( and many other sources ) : "La minuta aprobada por la Cámara de Diputados establece que el INSABI tendrá como fin garantizar servicios de salud gratuitos y medicamentos a las personas que carezcan de seguridad social en territorio mexicano, aun si son extranjeros." just google "extranjeros INSABI". Often, the following is added: " regardless their migratory status "

  14. I've read quite a bit about INSABI and in all instances, I've read the following, which would (IMHO) indicate that one must be a Mexican citizen in order to be attended. "Como parte de las acciones de transformación del sistema de salud pública que implementa el gobierno federal para garantizar atención médica y medicamentos gratuitos a toda la población, a partir del primero de enero de 2020, los beneficiarios del Insabi solo deberán presentar su credencial del INE, la Clave Única de Registro de Población (CURP) o su acta de nacimiento para recibir los servicios públicos de salud." The above sentence translates to: "As part of the actions of transforming the federal government's public health system in order to guarantee medical attention and free medicine to the entire population, starting on the first of January 2020, the beneficiaries of Insabi need only present their INE CREDENCIAL, the Clave Única de Registro de Población, or their birth certificate to receive the services of public health." This announcement, also IMHO, is confusing in that one might read it to believe that one can also show only the CURP to be allowed free medical care and medicines. The language of this announcement is such that there is no 'or' after the INE mention, but there IS an 'or' after the mention of the CURP (before the mention of the birth certificate). The announcement also says that "the whole population" is entitled to free medical attention, but again IMHO there's no indication that the foreign population is included.

  16. Wife and I had lunch at Elena's today , across from Mel's . It is mexican food , nothing more nothing less.Good food , large portions , I need a nap. Very nice people and cheerful employees .Very attentive service, checked on us often . Many selections on menu .Need to modify a menu selection , no problem. Nice replacement for the departed El Serape . Red sauce is good , green sauce is great with a bite. Plenty of seating inside and out. You may love it or you may not but they deserve a chance to serve you , give them a shot . Remember , if you don't like something doesn't mean it's wrong , just not necessarily for you. Street parking not a problem. Beer and wine available , liquor coming soon, it's mexico. 10to 10 EVERYDAY.

  20. I make a single good point, so those who disagree are now saying I've "got it all figured out". As if that kind of statement is going to detract the rest of us from what's going on. You really do think we are stupid, don't you? Stupid and unknowing. We have been lectured to dozens of times on this board about "giving them a chance"; that says to me you assuming that as a group, we wouldn't. And I do mean lectured. Telling me that we "are all different" is kindergarten-level, patronizing advice. There was no jest in your post, Senoir. (Except maybe in the spelling of your online identity. And do reread what I wrote: I said it was nothing personal. But you took it that way anyway, because now that you've decided to participate, that was your gut reaction. Oh, what pleasure it must have given you to type "People like you" after all this time.

  21. I don't know you, Senoir D, but I am assuming you're a stand up guy, so don't take this the wrong way: It really chaps my butt when someone on this board reviews a place and then lectures me on how I should think about it, and how I should give them a chance, and how everyone is different. In my mid-60s now, I think I've figured that part of life out, as have we all. Give me advice on where to get my car fixed, what day I should buy airline tickets, or how to make chicken broth. Do not tell me how to think. As far as restaurants go, we all will make up our own minds regardless of any pontificating anyway.
