Beg to differ with you. There are actually honest gas guys and you'd be wise to find one. Just to get an idea that not everyone will rip you off.5 points

I, and a number of others who have been here for a long time, use Juan 333 971 0630. I've never had a problem with him, he is polite and comes when he says he will be here.3 points

If someone is losing sleep over this then here is an option. Go to Amazon or Ebay and buy two high capacity bathroom scales (don't worry they are cheap). Place one scale under the right footing of your Lp tank and the other under the left footing of the tank. Record the numbers of the two scales prior to filling and add together. After filling your tank, record the scale numbers again and subtract the first number from the second reading. Lp per liter weighs about 1.1 lb. Do the math and now you can sleep at night. Better yet forget spending $80 for two scales and apply that money to a solar hot water system.3 points

I used to work for an arts organization in Canada that hired bands and put on dances. A friend was selling the bar tickets one night and told people $1.50 each or 3 for $5. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who went for the 3 for $5.2 points

The lyrics are not racist, they decry racism as it existed in the '50s, and as it exists right now. The lyrics are meant to be ironic as they are sung by the very Puerto Ricans who are the victims of the casual racism they experience(d). Not knowing this makes you look, I don't know, reactionary, or worse. Putting your head in the sand is never a flattering look.2 points

Anyone looking for a private driver who is professional, reliable and speaks perfect English, I can highly recommend German Esquivel. Asked for a 4:45 pickup yesterday and he arrived at 4:15. We had a large group returning to Canada and we had to wait for the other cab driver who arrived late. German waited patiently until everyone else was gone as I had asked that I follow him closely in my Van as we were going to a Hotel closer to Guadalajara that I wasn’t familiar with. He kept his speed reasonable making sure I was behind him all the way. Excellent service. His number is 331-713-4277.1 point

I have read about a dozen very recent Mexican newspaper articles on this subject, and here is what I understand ( everything with a grain of salt, because uncertainty still rules ) : - Seguro Popular members: their policy ended on Dec. 31st, 2019 - You dont have to enroll in INSABI: every time you need healthcare/medication ( at certain not yet specified institutes...most likely former Seguro Popular ), you simply show ID and CURP number or birth certificate. Healthcare/medication are supposed to be without costs to the patient - You cant combine INSABI with other insurances and it is also open to foreigners REGARDLESS their immigration status ( for anybody on Mexican territory ). - nothing yet on IMSS merging with INSABI - the next months: transition period with uncertainty on rules of this new institution Rony1 point

In 33 years I can count the runaway trucks on my 2 hands, and the number of injuries on 1 hand. Y'all need to get a hobby. The biggest problen is stupid drivers turning too sharply at speed, and not runaway trucks from brake failures. Unfortunatly topes, ramps, signs, nor stoplights cure or prevent stupidity.1 point

Mexico, like many other countries, requires that you report your world wide income if you are a citizen. It's one of the reasons why I chose not to become a Mexican Citizen. I did not want to have to do TWO income tax filings. As a Canadian citizen, who is an official legal non-resident, my Canadian income tax is deducted at source in Canada and I do not even have to file a Canadian tax return. Nor do I have a Mexican bank account. Simple. I like simple.1 point

On the old highway through Jocotepec (Vincente Guerrero Pte) when you get close to the Guadalajara/Morelia highway there are several fertilizer stores on the right (north side). Their doors are wide open and you can see the bags of fertilizers.1 point

Nevern I repeat Never use a debit card for purchases. It is a link to your cash account and it can be drained in a second. Yes your bank will probably make it right but it might be a month or more. If there is Credit Card fraud your bank can freeze the transaction and credit your account in microseconds. Then they can take all the time they want to investigate. In the meantime you are out nothing.1 point

What I mean by paying for it is that eventually safe water runs out.. It is happening in San Cristobal de las Casas right now.. Many sources of water have been sold or leased to larfe companies like Cocacola , the rivers are beyond filthy and the banks are rat infested and part of the citiy are running out of water...Between the lack of concern for the environement and the corruption the city is slowng destroyng itself. After being out of water for a month the municipality sent water trucks in the neighborhood and the neighbors told me not to put the water i the aljibe as it would contaminated the whole house.. Apparently some of the trucks were getting the water from areas where the water was contaminated..1 point

We are not talking of the past here. Surely you know that the US now has the among the cleanest rivers, lakes, air and drinking drinking water in the world. I read books every day, mostly history, biographies and true crime. It is a crime that many people continue to put down the US whenever they can. I am now reading PARIS 2019 an amazing book about the "Peace Conference" there following the horrific First World War where the US came to the rescue of The Allies and President Wilson, the Brits and the French tried to put in place a plan to prevent "the war to end all wars" from happening again. Unfortunately the Germans were not having anything to do with this and 20 years later again invaded and took over most of Europe. The Japanese then entered and in the end it was the good old USA that came to the rescue and put an end to the atrocities. I would suggest that you read a good American history book and you might change you mind about this great country, warts and all.1 point

Not true. There is smell and visual pollution there. I've been there 3 or 4 times and it certainly is no Niagara even though it is often called that. Recently Mexico City News paints a grim picture of it.1 point

Medicare does NOT cover travel emergencies outside the US....(most) Medicare supplements have this limited travel coverage. If you don't have a Medicare supplemental plan, you are out of luck on this 60 day travel outside-US coverage.1 point

18 wheelers and semis have no business being on any road lakeside. They make small trucks for going through small towns with narrow streets where anything larger simply doesn't fit. Why is this any different? The sheer weight of a loaded Coca cola truck or Corona beer truck could be responsible for chewing up the highway. Both of those distribution plants are prime real estate now whereas they used to be located in the "boonies". imho, they should both be re-located but I have no clue as to the number of people who are employed there who would be affected by such a change.1 point

Mexico has many ramps for runaway trucks. We have them all over the place n Chiapas along with signs saying , give rightaway to vehicules without brakes, and a red line the truck should follow..There is no room on the libramiento on the right to do this type of ramp.. Also trucks are not supposed to use their motor to slow down because of the noise..to the fracc near the libramiento. It s a catch 22 and now people are complainng about the opes.. What should there be there so people slow down??1 point

Another useless fluff piece, with very few data points to support his conclusions. Only financial comparisons he gives are 1) cost of an x-ray and 2) cost of a Brazilian churrasco meal. Waste of bandwidth.1 point

We have our home for sale and interestingly approximately 30% of the traffic are Mexican Americans from California. I guess the house prices in Cal have significantly increased and with their equity and retirement benefits it is a win win situation for them to relocate "back home"1 point

Hello Apachewoman: I referred another person on this board and they hired him. He is realiable, honest and always so helpful. Totally bilingual as lived in the U.S many years. He always thinks ahead. For example we rode the bus from the states and got into Chapala late at night and were just going to take the bus to Riberas and walk the rest of the way. He contacted us and said no i will pick you up. Of course he is a great friend and didnt want to take any money, but he has a family and is working hard so we always make him take the money. So many times he thinks ahead. He knows Guadalajara also. Thank you for considering him. He is also a handyman, skilled in many areas. Miguel - 331 768 80261 point

Simply more tope overkill IMO. Half as many would suffice. This is the price we pay for the near universal speeding in dense residential areas that is the norm here.1 point
-
OR driving on the frickin wrong side to avoid the topes. They should put up concrete meridians on that whole stretch and leave holes for the Ceilo Vista & Vista Alegre entrances1 point
-
The (my) point is that they just did NOT need 18 topes to accomplish the slow down. The (now) painted ones up top and a couple or three more down farther would have sufficed.1 point

Okay let me add one more. About a year ago a strait truck loaded with ice lost control in the curb just past the fire department. Luckily no cars where coming the other way.0 points
