My bank accepts my permanent resident card as ID. And I don't understand why you think it's weird, Harry, to have to let them know your account number, if you didn't go in with your bank card. When I do a deposit or withdrawal at my Mexican bank, I have to just put my debit card in the little card reader at the tellers window and show my ID. It's no big deal. And if you walked into your NOB bank with 20,000 Mexican pesos in cash to deposit would it really just end up being a quick and easy operation?

- the infrastructure changes of the 50 year old+ sewer and water pipes and road and sidewalk resurfacing on Hidalgo but not the ridiculous bike path for the 2 following reasons. The lesser reason but very important: no parking on the north side affecting many business some of which will probably go bankrupt and home owners without off street parking. The really BIGGY and downright dangerous to the point where some may loose their lives, property,etc.. There is NO ROOM for traffic to get out of the way of AMBULANCES,BOMBEROS and POLICIA.. There is major construction right now and because of that I have now seen 2 ambulances trying to get by and nobody has been able to move over for them.

It appears that there is a lack of professional traffic engineers to do the planning.

There is a paid parking lot on that block of Hidalgo. There is another empty lot that could be made into a parking lot. Employees should be told to park up the street a block or two, not in front of the business. This Business 101, which isn't' practiced much here. I had a job where I had to park about 1/2 mile away and walk to work. Even in the snow--nothing here to keep employees from doing the same thing, only under a palm tree.

People seem to like Trip's. He now has several outlets in Guadalajara. He is even using remote devices to alert you when your food is ready (although since people tend to sit within 15 feet of the outlet here, that hardly seems necessary. Still, a good sign that he isn't resting on his laurels). So I gave it a third try today, since he's been open. There is absolutely nothing about his cheeseburger to recommend. It is tasteless and boring. The 25p burger in San Antonio is better, by far, in every way. Oh, maybe one thing: really nice paper napkins.

Hi Guys, Well, I was hoping to write something amusing, to bring a chuckle or at least a smile into our lives. I guess that failed. Did you notice the "funny" tag? That probably didn't help. Anyway, in my mind, (yes I know, you don't have access to that), I was trying to (humorously) point out some of the absurdities of "the system" Namely: 1. How little Mexican banks trust their tellers. All of the information they needed to complete the transaction was available to them, but the guy behind the window couldn't access any of it. 2. This was a deposit, n'est pas? I would sympathies more with "the system" if it were a withdrawal, but I was trying to put money INTO their bank, and INTO my own account. 3. Once the teller had my name, he should have been able to pull up my passport on his screen to confirm that it was really me. The account information, including my account number should have been there too. The transaction would have taken 2 minutes instead of 20. Who designs a system like this? 4. Five separate fingerprint scans? Really? On other occasions, I have written what I thought were perfectly valid checks that were rejected by my bank for what I think are "bogus reasons." I have two examples of this. 1. I once left out the word "pesos" on the check. Everything else was correct, the date, numbers (both numeric and in Spanish) the signature etc. But the bank refused to cash it because I left out the word pesos. I'm sure the poor guy I was trying to pay had to stand in line for half an hour to get his money was very happy. I'm sure some of you will point out that I was an :() and wrong and should learn how to write an f**ing check for leaving off the word pesos, but really, who is the bank protecting with this kind of stuff? Could there possibly have been ANY QUESTION about what I was trying to do? Could the teller, (or the bank manager) possibly have thought: "Hmmm, I wonder if he wants British Pounds, or Euros, Albanian Leks?" I don't think so. 2. I once wrote a check, in which I did include the word pesos, for Una Mil pesos & 00/100 M. N. along with the numeric $1000.00 in the proper box. Apparently the teller could not decipher what I wanted, and the check was rejected. I was told that I should have written Un Mil pesos, not Una. Has common sense left the planet? I can understand rejecting a check if the amount is ambiguous, but in this case what else could I have meant? I feel sorry for Mexico about this. I would like to see Mexico become a wealthy and prosperous country, but with this kind of obstructionist system, which happens not just in banking but almost anywhere in "officialdom" that is going to be a long and difficult road. Wouldn't it be nice if banks, and other institutions, went out of their way to assist customers and promote commerce, instead of finding ways to impede it. Even a Mexican passport is not accepted in all cases.. the INE for a Mexican is the only ID that s accepted without a question by all the banks. I just read the blofg. It may be a nice story for a blog but what happened is totally normal. If you do not want to go through this transfer money. There are laws against money laundering and cash is suspect , very suspect now .. so transfer. and you will not be questioned.

Why are all the town bakeries so hard to find? Ajijic - up an unmarked walk, through a flour-coated tunnel. San Antonio - unmarked, follow your nose to the open brown door, etc. 😋

Way too expensive. Dr. Claudia Camacho (33) 3403 3857 does cataract surgery. She will do the consult in her clinic in Chapala above the immigration building. and you can hire a driver to Guadalajara and back for the surgery. I think Dr. Camacho charges 800 to 900 pesos for the consult. Miramontes 766-1142 has many drivers who will take you in and bring you back and all speak English.

Many specialists at Lakeside are charging $1000 peso for a consult now.. $1500 pesos for a doctor to drive you there and possibly attend the consult with you is not out of the ball park... Some expats who are offering rides from the airport or rides to the new bus station in Guadalajara are asking $600 or 700 peso.., So I wouldn’t say $1500 pesos for possibly a 4 hour trip is ripping you off....expensive yes.. ripoff no..

If there were a large parking garage in Chapala with free electric shuttles there wouldn't be a need for parking on both sides of Hidalgo. How many of the cars parked on Hidalgo belong to people that work nearby and not are customers, most I think. They should have kept the payed parking system imo, with the first 30 minutes free There is a large space for a parking structure right next to parke Cristiania Biking on the Malecon is not easy and requires zigzagging around pedestrians. There has to be safe route for bikes on Hidalgo.

I think the 'cleaning machines are a luxury rather than a necessity. They are NOT vital but if you have extra $$$ that you want to spend, probably nice to have. I use baby shampoo, have for nearly 20 years, and haven't died yet.

Our experience in Guanajuato for several months has been that we avoid Pemex stations like the plague and use Shell and Mobil. These have new pumps and so far seem to give Much better gas mileage than we almost always got from Pemex stations. All say the gas is Pemex, but the newer ones don't seem to cheat much , yet ! Still need to watch the readings as they deliver it.

"Privatization" simply means that some gas stations have the right to use names other than PEMEX on their signs--BP, FLASH, some others. The gasoline is still from PEMEX.

Sounds to me like your having issues adapting to life in Mexico...Its just not that hard.....

An excellent recommendation. He drove us to the airport: arrived 10 minutes early, nice clean car, excellent English and safe driving. Add him to your list of people to hire, he's good and reliable.

You have that one right Mudgirl.. WHen I left France for a year, I had a bank account and I gave my mother power of attorney.. When I came back married several years later, My French ID had expired and they had added spouse of Plummer to my maiden name. I went to the bank to close the account and pull the money and was turned down as I had no valid ID and French passports there are not accepted as valid ID. I argued with them and they also told me that my name had been modified so no deal.. My mother had to pull the money and close the account.. D

This was a great idea and I'm happy for those who are happy with the service. But, REALLY? iLox just became a four letter word for me. I will be going in next week to cancel my contract for a refund. Someone taking advantage. Go to Claudia Camacho's office in Chapala and you will be in good hands. They will arrange and do it all-including a driver.

I dropped by Ilox today and was told that they had attempted to send down a large number of modems &/or routers over the boarder and that Mexican Customs put a hold on this equipment and that it could be up to 3 to 5 months before the routers would be released and that they could not add any new customers to Ilox until these routers arrived. I say again, that she stressed that they could not provide service to any new users until the routers were released and that this would be three to five months. I sure hope there has been a misunderstanding here.
