  1. You don't need a pin or Id to use a credit card. Id is never checked. They bought $500. US of electronic at Walmart in less than 1/2 hour of lifting the card. never let a restaurant take your card out of your sight to make a charge. If they don't do the charge at your table then pay cash. Cash is always the safes! that is how we now function in Mexico, cash only. Getting air miles is not worth the risk and hassle. Besides, we have no desire to,leave this beautiful place.

  2. No you are by your accusation. Personal comments are not part of my statement, nor my question. Maybe things are different where you live. It is always amazing to me that people will do things here that they would never even consider to do at home. So I do not know the answer to my question as you are stating. My statement and my question are both logical.... not personal or accusatory. I am sure you will find the need to attack me again... so sad.

  3. IF you got a factura or receipt, tell them that you will contact PROFECO and that all you want is your frames and money returned. If you didn't get a factura, tell them that since you were not given one that you will report them to the proper authorities for not collecting and paying taxes.

  8. And I'll bet you don't know her personally or you wouldn't be slinging sh-t about her. Years ago she's the one that brought the EMT program at CR up to standard by teaching the local EMTs US standards. Don't know where they are currently. Your comment about "retiring" could be taken as a personal dig, of which she is not deserving. Stop the low life comments. No one appreciates your attitude.

  9. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVNG8GKVnP8 Both revivals from the 60's? I've been here for several years and noted a bunch of people constantly using and talking about whacky weed like some of us did in the 50's when we got booze for the first time under age. The second thing this song addresses is the folks into root music and the playing and singing thereof. I was told by an exec at CKUA Radio Edmonton that I have the most extensive roots and early rock records[all 3 speeds] known to him in a private collection in Alberta. My records and tapes are here with me. First tune I learned on my guit was wild wood flower by the Carter family from my record in 1961. Learned to blow the harp same time from my Jimmy Reed Carnegie Hall album. I had the pleasure of sitting with and listening to these guys in 1962 in the Canadian Guild of Folk Artist's meeting room.

  10. Be very careful. I brought my eyeglasses into Dr. Rios office to have new lenses made. My frames were like new, Silouette Rimless Titanium cost approx. $350 USD. The office told me it would be one week to have new lenses made. It took 2 weeks AND someone stole my expensive frames. The glasses were returned with a very cheap, very heavy, not sized correctly frame. I cannot wear them.

  11. Did you challenge them on this issue, and if so, what was their response?

  12. Thanks for this warning Joe and sorry for the loss of your good frames. That place had several negative comments on this board in the past. I do not like to bash a local business but if you'll not going to be compensated for them then your warning is justified.

  16. Having flown many times in light planes over the lake, it is quite a spectacular sight. Heck, even just seeing the area in a boat from the lake is an awesome experience. It gives you a totally different and more appreciative respect for the beauty of the area. I can assure you the helicopter tour is going to go the way of the big boat tours (out of Chapala and Jocotopec) and even the airboat tour business. Completely unprofitable. The noise of the helicopter last less time that a Z-Gas truck's speaker blaring driving down your street. If your skin is not thick enough to handle that, you live in the wrong country. Tough it out a little longer and economic nature will take its course.

  17. While this is good news, I am sure that they wanted to keep their personal family business to themselves. So why the additional information Oatsie ? Xena. . Posted all that was needed .

  18. In answer to Yo1. I hadn't used it quite a few days, and did not use it on the day that it somehow left my wallet and became the possession of the thief and/or thieves That day I only took cash out of my wallet at two restaurants and I can only imagine that I dropped said card on the floor of one of those restaurants when I paid my bill. And that is just a wild guess. Otherwise the crook would most likely have taken both credit cards and the cash I was carrying. And Daisy, you are correct I never needed and never received a pin for my credit cards, I wasn't thinking when I mentioned pin #

  20. Don't forget that Mazamitle is a Pueblo Mรกgico and as such gets state funds for improvements to sidewalks, etc. Chapala doesn't deserve PM status, nor does Ajijic. But I'm not sure it's only a matter that Ajijic is the step-child of Chapala. I think the government has been run so poorly by it's past corrupt presidents that there simply hasn't been enough money to go around where it's needed. When the electorate gets tired of this use of their taxes, they will do something about it. But corruption is so ingrained in Mexico that nationals don't feel empowered to change things. It's a tough situation for everyone.

  22. I read a novel this year by Peter Heller called The River, in which he details a trip he took with a bud through the mountains in a canoe, and was nearly overcome by a giant wildfire. Fascinating look at paddling, portaging and planning... stuff I used to do a long, long time ago.

  23. The OP did not say anything about "switching days". She simply wanted to be sure the maid could not claim Wednesday was the holiday since it is the parade day. The maid had not said anything about wanting Wednesday off (according to the OP). Perhaps someone can convolute this a little more, let's wait and see. Angus politely reminded the OP that working a holiday means triple pay, not double as the OP had said.

  24. I think everyone made it clear that hte paid holiday was Monday. . If the maid did not work on Monday ther is no problem Wednesday is just another day as far as the law goes and the maid and emploer can agree on how to handle it if the maid wanted the day off..
    1 point
  25. Well, a bunch of responders seemed not to actually read the OP they were responding to. The OP's maid normally works Wed., not Monday. Wed. isn't an official holiday. If the maid wants to take Wed off she does it without pay. If she wants to trade Wed for a day agreeable to both of them, she gets paid normal pay for the day she chooses. if she chooses Monday, she doesn't get paid double or triple- she's trading the day for the Wed. An employee can't decide to trade a normal work day they want off for a holiday for which they'd get paid double or triple.

  28. tomgates, I find your comment to be insensitive and not helpful to timjwilson and others in his position. I'm sure if he could afford one, he would have considered that a long time ago. Not everyone can afford to have a vehicle, including me! Or maybe his disability prevents him from being able to drive.

  29. Telmex can easily give users 100mbps over copper (if within the right distance), the recent offers to the different fracs to increase speed via fibre is for their own benefit, customers pay for the infrastructure and Telmex can now sell it elsewhere.

  37. There is an EMT school in Ocotlan where they learned and yes I know some of the graduates. I asked her for help once based on her alleged experience when I was starting hands on research of all the facilities around the lake so that an Alberta firefighter unit which helps several countries south of the border get equipment and training. She didn't but fortunately a retired California FF stepped into the breach thanks to the Rotary Club here. I have an entirely different story about her time at Cruz Roja. In any event she's not on this board.

  38. I copied the following from Ajijic News: The next big National Holiday in Mexico is Dia de Revolucion, on November 20, which celebrates the French-style revolution of the highly oppressed poor against the rich and corrupt rulers only 100 years ago, at which time Mexico began a semblance of democracy and equality. The legal holiday is Nov. 20 but it is also a Monday holiday on November 18 with banks, government and schools closed.

  40. In the 1950's the Los Chupalinos gang stole many bags of high grade silver ore. They were pursued, and they had to lose weight, so they buried the bags right along where they are excavating. This treasure has never been recovered. At least that is what an elderly local told me, after I had bought him three shots of tequila. You have to respect your elders, right?
