  2. I've had two friends who got very ill from putting themselves on no salt diets, thinking it would be healthy. If you've made assumptions and self diagnosed your salt intake, run it by your doctor. I also was told to eat more salt.

  5. Since you have something for sale, put it in the classified section. PS Pulling up a FOUR YEAR OLD post that has NOTHING to do with you selling a solar hot water system is a bit silly.

  6. So I had this giant hematoma on my big toe and being diabetic,it's necessary to really look after your feet so that you don't need to have them amped. Emerge doctora. sliced it squeezed the blood out and with help from a nurse assistant cleaned and dressed, then wrote a RX for topical antibiotic. Drove home. Total cost $413pesos.

  7. That's the way things are done here and have been done here forever. The reason there is a big uptick in crime immediately after an election is because turf hasn't been assigned yet.. If one finds these facts not to their liking, there's always NOB where it's acceptable to carry your assault rifle into Walmart where you may feel free to shoot 20 unarmed women and children if the checkout line is too long.

  8. Nogales and Anzalduas are 2 I have heard about. Some people try to do the online application. I have read that they are unable to complete the application because they are checking the GVW using the VIN. Earlier this week I spoke with a man that got a TIP at Colombia for an ex U-Haul F450 box van moving to Lakeside. As usual in Mexico, it is hit and miss. The law is decided by the person you need the permit from.

  9. New laptops all come with the current latest, n and usually ac. ac is for dual band, and not that important, unless the Internet provider's modem offers it, and then it has its drawbacks. The newest (ax) is not really available yet, although some very expensive routers are offering early standards of it.

  10. There was a big publicity stunt 2 or 3 years ago with new police trucks, what happened to them, the tourist police on quads, all the so called emergency numbers for robberies. Shake downs, noise etc etc?? Jerking our chains again.

  12. Any brand is fine. Manufacturers are not really "manufacturers"; they are like re-packagers. There are only a few actual manufacturers of motherboards, hard drives, WiFi components, CPUs, etc, and all the brand names source and buy from them, mostly out of Taiwan and other Asian countries. Not even Dell makes their "own" stuff.

  13. I use salt fairly liberally and have never had a blood pressure problem. Dr. tells me that salt only affects blood pressure on 10 to 25 % of the population depending on the study. So I guess each person has to determine where they are in the scenario of salt usage.

  14. It is not at all silly. It is a clever way to get the item you are selling into the most widely read forum where stuff for sale is not allowed.

  15. For those who get stopped and blew over .025 BAC, (as one of my friends did) they take you to jail in Zapopan. (12 or more hours in jail, depending on your BAC.) My friend was barely over the limit and only had to spend 12 hours in jail. Then you have to go to Chapala (same place you renew your drivers license) and pay a fine... a "Pagado" receipt is required." Then you have to go to Tlaquepaque to the Vehicle license verification office. Have originals of everything! Then you have to take that verification to the towing company office (which is only a few blocks) Show them the license verification and all all accompanying seizure documents and pay for the towing (Somewhere around $3000 pesos) Then they give you discharge papers to be able to get your car out about 35 minutes drive to Zapopan, where your car is stored. My buddy was not drinking, he took Nyquil 5 minutes before he was pulled over. None of us support people who drink and drive... but the system needs improvement... especially when your car is confiscated and you have to drive so much distance. It is absurd the bureaucratic hoops they make people jump through and I think the most absurd silliness is towing your car an hour and a half away from the infraction... and making you drive (by cab or Uber if you do not have a friend like me... kiss at least another $1000 pesos away) and traverse all your favorite roads in Tlaquepaque and Zapopan. Do not forget going to Chapala first to pay your fine and definitely do not forget your original paperwork or you will be going back the next day. Bring your ID... passport, driver's license, registration, insurance papers, and Immigration paperwork... especially the original import sticker papers if you were driving an imported car. Copies will not suffice. They should really provide a list of these procedures and requirements, too. But they do not. Unless you have a lawyer or someone who is familiar with the system.. you will spend a lot more time and money than is needed.

  16. From Laptopmag (for what it's worth) "If you're comfortable living in the cloud and you want to get stuff done in a secure yet simple environment, a Chromebook will suit you nicely. However, if you need power and versatility, Windows 10 reigns supreme."

  18. It is a restaurant but all the dogs are outside and so are the tables and the people , there are a couple of donkeys too... Agreed the waiter should not pet the dogs as they are working but otherwise what is the big deal? Yves rescues animals so he has hs rescues on the property and the customers show up with their dogs too.. If you do not want to see dogs in a restaurant do not go there. Last time I was in Roma and Condesa in CDMX the terasses of restaurants were full of people with dogs too.. Go to the top restaurants in France, I am talking about the 3 stars in the country and many do not accept kids but they acccept dogs..

  19. OMG...here we go again...dogs in restaurants!!! I am sure there are a lot more pressing problems than this to worry about. If you are concerned, simply call the restaurant you are thinking of going to and ask "Do you allow dogs there?" Get over it!

  21. Being a hockey player for most of my life,I ate a banana before every game to replace the potassium that I lost by sweating when I got older. Now on diuretics I have half a banana for breakfast every morning and sometimes have a drink that runners use, available just about everywhere. It has just enough salt, potassium, magnesium and glucose you might lose through sweating and or excessive urination.

  23. If one quoted this information in court, they would be free to be drunk as a skunk while driving. 0.8 mg/ml is excessively high as are 0.4 and 0.5. They have misplaced the decimal point.

  24. I am always amused by people who get upset when laws are enforced. How dare anyone interfere with their consumption of alcohol and then getting behind the wheel of a car! It is very simple. If you are driving don’t drink. If you are drinking don’t drive. If you absolutely can not go out to dinner or a party without drinking you may want to consider that you might have a problem with alcohol.

  26. Hhhmmmm..... so does this mean you resent it when caught drinking and driving? And are you aware these stops tonight are operated by "SalvandoVidas" (saving lives), a program to educate people against /prevent drunk driving, which is purposely staffed entirely by women in order to help keep tempers from flaring etc. It is NOT operated nor controlled by "Vialidad". And it HAS reduced drunk driving accidents/deaths since its inception a few years ago.

  27. Have you seen the traffic today? There are plenty of Tapatios..It is a holiday.. I do not know the legal level but it is vey low, if you are in an accident and had one drink you will be in trouble so do not drink. By the way whether they catch Tapatios or foreigners is irrelevant .. drinking and driving is illegal for all.

  30. What I see in Ajijic Chapala area is that the local Mexicans are very passive in comparaison to other areas and poorly organized... In the other place I live each barrio or colona has its president, each street has its encarcado and when the residents decide on something they push for it and have it done without gong through city hall.. IN our barrio it was decided we need more light at nicht. The encargado came by and asked everyone to leave the light on outside at night and asked people to put lights outside of their houses. ENough people did it to make a difference. When we ran out of water , the president of the barrio called for everyone to show up at the water company and it was resolved... Here there is no structure and no organization. Np president of barrio ever came knocking at my door ... I know the barrio is basically an old church structure but down there they have the same structure in the colonias as well and they get results when they want to.. In Teotitlan del Valle Oaxaca same deal and neighbors put pressure on neighbors, here everyone wants to be free to do what they please and we end up with garbage everywhere, recycling that is not the best etc... Harry or the delegado cannot do it by themselves and cityhall in Chapala dos whatever they please. The security meeting was a perfect exemple.. they used civic leaders that are really not leaders of the community and think they have done their duty.. It is a total joke.

  33. JGiff- If you have a Scotiabnak account in Canada you can use your debit card in any Scotiabank ATM in Mexico, without paying any service/ATM fees.

  34. CiBanco definitely has the lowest ATM fees. For Canadians, if you have a Canadian Scotiabank account, as long as you keep the required minimum balance in your account, you can use any Scotiabank machine without incurring any fees.

  35. Well that is one of the advantages here, there are a diversity of life styles to be had. You have to wonder about folks who feel the need to "disparage" choices made by others.

  36. Funny, after nearly 12 years here I don't know anyone who thinks that way. I know people who prefer closer proximity to most of the expat population correctly observe they are few and far between in Jocotepec and only slightly less so in Chapala. I know people who prefer the greater greenery in and around Ajijic. I know people who like the fact there are many more restaurants in Ajijic. I know some who prefer smaller weekend crowds than is typical of Chapala these days. But I don't know anyone who thinks as you describe. OTOH it sure seems to be characteristic of more than a few Chapala expats to knock Ajijic on this board. Including one who hasn't even lived here for some years. It almost give the impression that some feel jealous of us who chose to live in Ajijic. Actually I think the rest of the muncipio rather envies the fact most of our tax dollars go into your community. If anything you all should look down on us for our trashy, potholed streets and lack of the government services you enjoy at our expense. You should feel more magnanimous towards your more neglected country cousins.

  38. I think 'Go Solar' would be the best one to answer your question here. But to put it in a nutshell if you have a gravity fed water system then you can get by with a gravity or low pressure solar unit. In other words, if you have a tinaco or water tank on your roof and it is not a pressurized system then you can use a low pressure or gravity fed solar hot water unit. But if you have a pressurized water system then you need a solar unit that can handle the water pressure, and those are more expensive. I don't believe they are 4 times more expensive, more like twice as expensive. But either way in this sunny climate solar is the way to go.
