  1. A mutual friend told me today that before Camille acquired her pug Bebo (was it 1 or 2 years ago?) she made arrangements that a nephew would take in the dog should anything happen to Camille. I hope that is correct and that Bebo will have a home where he is as loved and cared for as he was with Camille. He was her baby and always with her. May Camiille rest in peace and Bebo be welcomed into a new, loving home.

  3. The earth revolves around the sun? Wait here, I'll go ask Copernicus. Super great analogy you got there. We are well past the point of dialectics here, at least your own information-free postings suggest as much. Try finding a source the isn't immediately refutable and perhaps we'll discuss it. This isn't difficult. Vetting your sources is easy once you get the hang of it. My goal here, any way, isn't to convince you of anything, but rather to show the fence sitters just how weak the arguments contra-ACD are. Frankly, this has all the satisfaction of discussing the theory* of evolution with an evangelist, and to be sure eventually I will stop bothering, but for now there's always the chance that you'll post something substantive. Hope springs eternal, right? * In science a theory is not a guess, but "a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. Such fact-supported theories are not "guesses" but reliable accounts of the real world."

  4. Anybody know why there has been 2 helicopters flying back and forth over Ajijic today. They have gone past my place near the lake at least 10 imes. I think they are both white. One has red flowing stripes on it. The letters and numbers on one starts with N.

  6. There is an appliance repair shop on upper Colon, east side, just one block up from the Carretera. A long time ago I did buy a vacuum bag there for an old Hoover vacuum. Give them a try.

  7. OK with me, I'll just have to respectfully say that I have not seen the proof that would cause me to sway from "reasonable doubt" to a guilty verdict. Again, from the article I linked to: In 2005, I had a conversation with Rajendra Pachauri, an Indian railway engineer, who remade himself into a climatologist and became director of the IPCC, which received the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize under his tenure. Pachauri told me, without embarrassment, that, at the UN, he recruited only climatologists convinced of the carbon-dioxide warming explanation, excluding all others. This extraordinary collusion today allows politicians and commentators to declare that “science says that” carbon dioxide is to blame for global warming, or that a “scientific consensus” exists on warming, implying that no further study is needed—something that makes zero sense on its face, as scientific research is not based on consensus but on contradictory views. The last phrase being the most important to me since it says science is never "settled", it just awaits the next theory which then must undergo rigorous testing and scrutiny from the scientific community to be proven or disproved. If proven it also awaits the next dissenter and our knowledge advances rather than being "settled" because someone or some group says so. I'll give you the last word.

  8. Peter's was always notable for excellent fish and reasonable prices. I hope they maintain the reasonable prices. If you suspect they are going to price themselves like those restaurants on the curves, then they are going to die rapidly. They were never that busy in the first place. Case in point: the fish restaurant in San Antonio across from Chula Vista. An arm of one of the restaurants from the curves (and in Guadalajara) did absolutely no business the whole two years they were there, because of their pricing. And now they are gone. Nobody seems to get it. Ismat over-priced and over-partnered at Avocado Club, he's doing the same with burnt chicken at his fried-chicken place, Number 4 and 4 hung on for dear life from the moment they opened, and so many other places that do poorly because most expats are on a fixed income and will not over-spend. I fully expect the same to happen within the lease period of that fancy new burger place out west of town. It doesn't even matter anymore if the food is good. The pricing will kill them.

  9. The biggest obstacle facing "Scallions" is getting past people who simply remember the place as "Salvatores". The totally renovated location (next to El Torito) is no longer a cafeteria serving inexpensive breakfasts and lunch. It's a full fledged, well maintained restaurant with an exciting menu, excellent food, service and pricing. Once they become known...........providing they keep their current focus, they stand a very good chance of becoming "the place to go" in Ajijic.

  10. Arroyo Alto replaced the copper wiring throughout the development and had TELMEX fiber optic cable installed in all homes. Speeds vary depending on the package chosen. Some casas including mine have speeds as high as 98 download and 20 upload. Very pleased with the project.

  12. The law has not changed. If someone is denied coverage and they are a legal resident they need to file an official complaint. Any person who should deny coverage to a legal resident is violating at least 3 federal laws. Does it happen? Yes. I remember about 10 years ago the director of IMSS in Chapala was doing the same. After official complaints were filed at the federal level she was moved to a different clinic.

  14. Be wary of anything on the east coast of Mexico because of an overgrowth of Sargassum. It is a seaweed that is growing out of control in the warming waters and piling up on beaches. The smell of it and the gasses it produces, as it decays, are hazardous to human and pet health. I have also found that the large resorts are very noisy and impersonal. He would probably be best suited to a B&B where he can converse at breakfast but spend the day in blissfully quiet surroundings... either on the beach or by the pool. San Pancho comes to mind immediately.

I found this out when I tried to Post: I D I O T S and liars.... with those kind of words one will gain a lot of followers and sympathizers.

  16. Camille was a gifted actress with whom I had the pleasure of joining in a stage production fifty five years ago. She was a free spirit and a marvelous person. I lost track of her when I went to Caifornia to enter college. I next crossed paths with her whilst she was the "Salad Lady" in the Heights. She hadn't changed an iota. The world is lesser in her passing.

  20. The rudest drivers I have encountered were in Texas. That being said, young mexicans are very angry re the US political situation and sometimes take it out on expat encounters. iN THE SAID SITUATION, I too just turn the car off and wait. Offer to call the police. Some expats seem to think if they see a mexican do something they can too. Firstly they are assuming the mexican would get away with it if seen and secondly you can count on getting away with about as much as a mexican would back where you came from. BTW I have worked with all the police and the transit jail is far worse.

  22. Economic growth was initially expected to be at least 3% to 4% this year .For most developing economies this has been downgraded to 3%, even in the U.S.A. where they are also trying to swallow a record $1 trillion deficit, in an economic downturn and after major tax cuts. Mexico's growth is estimated to be 1%. There is nowhere to get rich quick anymore. Unless you are in some sweet corruption scheme. Crooks are being caught ever increasingly because of millions of dollar worth of advanced surveilance equipment and computer sniffers being returned from the Middle East.
