  1. There is no such concept as "settled science". It is a construct based on the reporter from one newspaper twisting the words of a reporter from another paper. Neither reporter had any understanding of how science works. It's use shows a lazy approach to any topic. Science is never "settled". But it is science.

  2. Mactavish .....it’s easy to go online and glean a little knowledge, but as we all know “ a little knowledge is a dangerous thing “ . Firstly Pensacola is almost 400 miles from the Atlantic ..it’s actually on the northern gulf coast or the red-neck riviera as we call it where the local fishing industry is completely different . The prices in your cute little photos are whole fish , by the time it’s filleted ,there’s 50% waste and an up charge for Labour . Much of the gulf seafood has been decimated by the massive red tides this year and quality is suspect. As far as the species in the photos ,Salmon and smelt don’t live anywhere near Florida , pompano and speckled trout are out of season and the red snapper fishing season has been closed down since early September .There are over 150 species of grouper many endangered , many of different food value . I put an order for 10 pounds of grouper filet in my online basket at your famous fishmongers ( which you have no idea about the grade , age and quality...there are differences believe it or not ) the price ..186 U S and it wasn’t skinned or pinned Finally ...” I called a friend “ one of top Chefs in Florida.. he can’t buy grade A fish for less than 20 $ ..WHOLESALE . So before one pontificates on the fish prices in Florida it’s best to have a little local knowledge.

  3. Reginald Hector Doresa passed away on the morning of September 25th 2019 at his home in Chapala. He came to Lake Chapala in 2005, by himself, at age 87 and lived a great life, here in Paradise. Born on October 7th 1917, he was twelve days shy of his 102nd Birthday. After a fall and a fractured hip on July 20th, he had 24 hour nursing, at home with a group of caregivers, nurses and his doctor. They gave him loving care! Known as Reggie to his hundreds of friends and family, he fiercely guarded his independence, living with his cat, alone, but not lonely. With many friends aid, he enjoyed reading and following world affairs from his vantage point on the shore of Lake Chapala. In earlier years he was an inveterate traveler. He lived in eight countries. Reg was born in Buckinghamshire, England, son of Hector Spiro Doresa and his wife Beatrice Shepherd. As a toddler, he emigrated to Canada, was raised in Ottawa before moving to Toronto, to work, study and start a family consisting of wife Frances and two daughters, Diane and Mona. Subsequently, with second wife, Heather, Reg left for the Bahamas, then on to Tanzania and Kenya, Where he taught accounting and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. As he said, "Not bad for a pudgy 61 year old!" From Africa, Reg and Heather moved to Malaga, Spain, to retire. Reg was itching to take a round the world tour. Heather was not up to the trip, and encouraged him to go it alone. He did... Sadly, Heather died in Spain. Reg returned to Toronto, where he started a second career on Stage, on Screen and on TV. Look up Reggie on imdb.com. Reg is survived by his two daughters and numerous grandchildren and a great grandchild. There is a Birthday Party and a Celebration of a Long Life, Well Lived, on October 7th 2019 at his home in Chapala: Flavio Romero de Velazco #385 (corner of Acapulco) 4 to 7 PM. Please drop in to share some good cheer and a story or two about the Life and Times Of Reggie Doresa!

  5. Yes... if that driver is willing to drive free and wait near your pickup location and wait for you will call for a pickup. If it is an active driver they well could receive a different order and they would have to turn it down. If you turn down orders you will be put lower on the list with Uber. Also if the other order was for a better trip ....say estimated fare to airport for $350 with high possibility of short wait time for another ride would they pass to take your trip to take it?? The way an Uber driver makes any money is a high volume of rides. Dead driving and waiting lowers the number of rides.

  8. Any television service that is streamed is IPTV by definition and is 100% legal in the USA or Mexico as long as the provider is following copyrite law in accordance as to where the contend is being played. That is why some people use a VPN in Mexico (which spoofs a US IP address) to view programs that the channel does not have the right to stream in Mexico. Using a VPN to spoof an IP address for the purpose of violating copyrite law is illegal as is receiving Dish USA or Shaw Canada in Mexico. So doing so is a moral choice, as the possibility of any legal consequence for receiving is basically nill. Example the content available in the USA and Mexico on Netflix or Amazon Prime is different. Many programs are only available in country or the other but not both. If you are thinking you can receive copyrited pay channels from a box sold here or anywhere, the service is 100% illegal unless you pay each channel their fee (if subscription service)and as previously stated illegal streamers are being shut down daily. to repeat Maybe you will understand. Buy a Roku or Firestick, or Apple TV, etc and there are hundreds of free and pay channels available .....all legal. You will need to subscribe to the pay channels you want (Amazon, Netflix, Google TV etc). They all will work with ILOX or any other internet provider you have as long as you have the download speed necessary. Right now my wife is watching Netflix and I am watching Amazon Prime . My Telmex download is 9.17 on the basic package

  9. If you mean auto electronics, then El Seiko in Chapala is head and shoulders above the rest. He is on Madero. 269C. About the 4th last shop on the right before you get to the little bridge. You can't miss him; always a buncha cars parked out front. Little garage storefront, right beside a roast chicken place. He speaks no English, but one of his workers speaks some. He's replaced the motors on my power windows (each motor cost about 700 incl labour) and next week he is replacing a motor on my power seat. Some time ago he fixed a car speaker in the door by replacing the tweeter, instead of making me buy a new speaker.

  11. Considering they wanted 300 to sign up, and got 400, I am finding it difficult to believe that they suddenly and fortuitously managed to pick up another 2,400 customers who all got installed before the original group. It's BS, and it is sad to see them not only not giving a crap about customer service, but now resorting to TelMex-type shovels of you-know-what. Gustavo needs to be reprimanded and schooled.

  12. I know of a Mexican citizen living in Texas driving an Jalisco plated Mercedes for 3 years with a Texas drivers license. The car has been back to Nuevo Laredo one time in those three years. He does live in a very upscale community and has been stopped only once( for speeding). He presented his Jalisco registration and Mexican insurance along with his Texas DL. The policeman never questioned the vehicle. Every time the vehicle enters and exits the US it is photographed front & back. I assume the license plates are entered into a database of some kind. On entry they could be linked to your passport. On exit that is not done. Your biggest risk is the requirement that if you are a resident of Texas ( defined as having an address fro more than 30 days) you are required to register your vehicle within 30 days. If you are ticketed for that then you would have to remove the vehicle from Texas within a specified time.

  13. A naturalization letter would be a copy of the document stating that you are a naturalized Mexican Citizen. Canadians are allowed to hold dual citizenship with Mexico. It is a lengthy process. 1st requirement is either be married to a Mexican for 2 years or to have lived in Mexico for 5 years. I agree with AlanMexacali. You are entitled under federal law if you are a llegal resident of Mexico. Download a copy of the law (in Spanish) and present it at Seguro Popular if you are told you need to be a citizen when you go for renewal. Possibly you might want the services of an attorney.

All socialized medicine systems in Mexico are available to legal residents - if they qualify for IMSS - if not they qualify to join the Seguro Popular - under rights of legal immigrant residents in the SEGOB - INM 2011 Immigration Law. This includes Residente Permanentes and Residente Temporal residents. Any state, city or hospital where Seguro Popular is denied to any legal resident is breaking this law and the federal Secretaria de Salud federal law and federal anti-discrimination law. Report them to the Secretaria de Salud administration office in the Seguro Popular hospital you are applying at. You will need the place, date, time and the employees name to report them. Take a copy of the above law with you. Even if the employee was instructed by higher ups the investigation you iniciate will reach those whom have incorporated a policy illegally in their particular sector of the federally administrated by Secretaria de Salud federal employees and federally funded Seguro Popular. IMSS also is administrated and mostly - some fee funded - funded by the federal government Secretaria de Salud and both have to follow federal laws without discrimination. Your 16 percent IVA taxes and any SAT taxes you pay fund it. "Servicios de Salud" of the state of Queretaro are breaking 3 federal laws discriminating against legal foreign residents of Mexico by refusing to enrol them in federally funded socialized medicine in their state. Report the clerk who refused you to join to the federal "Sectretaria de Salud" administration office in the Seguro Popular hospital. Take a copy of this above federal law. It doesn't matter who instructed her to break the 3 federal laws as they will be investigated along with the clerk. Know your rights as a legal resident.

  16. Sherrifs deputies will let you know when to remove the car permanently, not temporarily, possibly. They did with my ex-wife after 1 year seeing it around even though she frequently went to Mexicali. After 7 or 8 warnings she sold it in Mexico at a large loss. It was new when we were married. Big mistake to not buy a US car. The peso devaluation made it a very good deal at that time. 1 1/2 years latter is was a bad deal for us.

  19. People living in the US cannot drive/have a Mexican plated vehicle in the US for more than 1 year no matter if they take the vehicle into Mexico every day/week/month etc.. It will be illegal for any legal resident or citizen of Mexico living in the US to own and drive a Mexican plated vehicle permanently in any state of the US. Forget that idea.

  20. TelMex appears to have done what it does best: make an announcement, ride on the coattails for awhile, then sneak off back to oblivion. There is some fibre installation on their part, but it seems they prefer to work initially with those fraccs that are willing to pay a huge amount upfront. The competition that spurred them into activity seems to be a dead horse to them now. No one at tech support or the local office can tell us where or when, a continuing sign of their inability to do anything right. People complain about iLox's poor customer service (and it is poor), but they have nothing on TelMex, who promise promise promise and never deliver... and never feel the need to offer any explanation.

Spoken with telmex cdmex and local office many times. Thers just not sufficient capacity is the final answer. No sign of it improving. Affecting quite a few areas. We are going to try ilox. God knows whats going to happen when snowbirds get here..

  22. Not a bad location but the name is a bit misleading. The views are pretty good up in there. Considering the fact fuel is pushing towards $5 here, the tolls are sky high and the roads are pretty bad overall I don't see an RV resurgence in Mexico anytime soon. Too bad, this could be a great country to RV in.

It was also much colder when earth endured the maunder minimum 1450-1540. The climate has changed since the world was created and will continue to.

  27. Please don't read any of this. You won't believe it anyway and it will just frustrate you. It's sorta like trying to teaching a pig to sing...it takes a long time, is very difficult and generally irritates the pig! The Frontier Centre for Public Policy's web site published a February 2011 interview, in which Ball told an anonymous interviewer that Michael E. Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Pennsylvania State University, "should be in the State Pen, not Penn State". This referred to Mann's role in the Climatic Research Unit email controversy.[57] Mann then sued Ball and Frontier Centre for libel,[58] and stated that he was seeking punitive damages and for the article to be removed from the web site.[59] On 7 June 2019 the Frontier Centre For Public Policy published a retraction and apology[60] and settled their part of the case with Mann.[61] On 21 March 2019 Tim Ball had applied to the court to dismiss the action for delay, this request was granted at a hearing on 22 August 2019, and court costs were awarded to Ball. The actual defamation claims were not judged, but instead the case was dismissed due to delay by Mann's legal team.[62] Ball is well known as an anti-evolution proponent. He is so far out of the scientific mainstream as to be just a few miles past the moon. In 2011, Ball found himself at the receiving end of a couple of libel suits. In February, University of Victoria climatologist (and now a member of the British Columbia legislature) Andrew Weaver filed a lawsuit against Ball for his op-eds that accused Weaver of incompetence and corruption. In March, Penn State climatologist Michael Mann filed a lawsuit against Ball and his think tank for publishing statements on their websites that claimed Mann was complicit in a "cover-up" of Climategate and that he had committed scientific fraud.[14] Since the suits were launched Canada Free Press has retracted one of the interviews with Ball on the website.[15] Furthermore, they seem to have scrubbed a good deal of Ball's articles and Ball-related material.[16] In February, 2018, the suit by Weaver was dismissed on the grounds that Ball's attack on Weaver was so stupid and inept that it couldn't be considered libelous thus doing no injury to Weaver's reputation to an informed reader. [17] Therefore the official judgement of the Canadian court system is that Tim Ball is either an incompetent :() or someone pretending to be an incompetent :(). If you are going to hook your wagon to Tim Ball's star, I think I'd go looking for another hero. Oh my...there I've gone and done it...I have opened myself up to all the puerile name calling and innuendo of the climate deniers! Why does the fringe even fight this. If 9 brain surgeons tell me I have a tumor and a foot surgeon says it's a hoax, I am going with the 9 trained experts. We are blessed there are not many of you out there! And while we are at it 9/11 and the landing on the moon were hoaxes.

  29. That's truth! Maybe he is a private driver, but the call to Uber drivers!
    1 point
  30. There is no way to choose an "Uber driver" When you open the app and ask for ride the computer estimates your fare and time to pickup and destination. If you click to proceed the computer selects your driver, then sends you the drivers picture, car, license plate, ETA. The driver receives your information & picture. When the ride is over Uber bills your CCard for the fare and any tip you might select. Uber drivers, their licenses, vehicle, and insurance are pre-screened by Uber. Also all the information of your ride is preserved on Uber's servers. In the event of a problem all that information is available to the authorities. If you can call an individual they are not making that ride as an Uber driver. Buyer beware.

The lady told my neighbor they aren't installing out here (west Ajijic). I have been told another week, month, etc. Mr Kessler keeps saying "any day now." The middle of this month will mark 18 months since I prepaid. It will also likely mark the day I go in and ask for my refund.

I am so tired of my recyclables being thrown into the compacting trucks with the regular garbage. On the other hand, it doesn't make ecological sense to drive them across town to your current recycling centre since I am located in Riberas. And, yes, I'm sure I could have asked these questions via pm but I'm also equally sure that others want the information as well. T.I.A.

  36. They referenced is a Gulf Coast salt water fish. Cynoscion nebulosus From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Cynoscion nebulosus, the spotted seatrout, also known as speckled trout, is a common estuarine fish found in the southern United States along coasts of Gulf of Mexico and the coastal Atlantic Ocean from Maryland to Florida. While most of these fish are caught on shallow, grassy flats, spotted seatrout reside in virtually any inshore waters, from the surf of outside islands to far up coastal rivers, where they often come for shelter during cold weather. Contrary to its name, the spotted seatrout is not a member of the trout family (Salmonidae), but of the drum family (Sciaenidae). It is popular for commercial and especially recreational fishing in coastal waters of the southeastern United States. Adults reach 19-32 inches in length and 3-15 pounds in weight. 39. I do not know how to be more clear...I am requesting feedback, good, bad or ugly from anyone who subscribes to a LOCAL IPTV provider here using the ILox internet connection and what is their experience. There are some local providers out there but maybe nobody reading this is using them or does not care to make comments here. That is OK but there is some Guy out there trying to run up his business impressions by demeaning and twisting my original post which I have reviewed and find quite clear.

  40. My question was asking those who use a local streaming service with ILox to give me feedback...the good, the bad and the ugly. So far I have not heard anything in that regard. Just all of the hashed over information regarding modems, routers and technical things that a good local IPTV streaming service should be able to give the best advise on. Funny how some folks do not understand a clearly worded post.
