  1. She was just dropped off. A Mexican family picked her up last night on the carratera! Called us at 12:04m and returned her at 12:24am. They were very happy for us and Honey. Thank all of you who spread the word and prayed. Thank you God!

  2. Vivien- just because a dog is wandering around without a collar or ID tags doesn't mean it's lost. If you take it back where you "found" it, it will probably just go home. Unless a dog is hurt or in obvious distress, you shouldn't take it home with you.

  3. Like Mt Mama , I know Vivien, she has lived here for many years and very involved with dogs and she is not a novice or amateur in this area of whether to take a dog in or not.... she would not 'take in' a dog if it were not indicated. She has checked out the found area, and there are no 'lost' posters in the area... . Vivien has already put up 'found' posters as well as checking local Vet in hopes some Vet would recognize this dog. What is of good cause for concern, this dog has had recent surgery with sticthes intact and a potential for infection if she were out there on her own trying to survive... Quite honestly, it is a bit of a romatic notion that all lost dogs can find their way home, like in the Lassie movies.. Somedogs , as bright as we think they are, just can not do that, as much as we would hope that our lost dog would make a bee-line back home.. I had one get out.. lost for days.. even though she had had walks around where she lived, once she was out on her own, her homing GPS sklls were nil...she was terrified, running in a scattered way , trying to hide from unknown scary things, dealing with weather unprotected from rain/thunder/lightening, and etc.. someone did find my girl, take her in and and because she had a collar and ID tag on, the person called me and she returned home .. and for that I was and am thankful. With no ID on this dog, it is a challenge to find it's owner, but Vivien is working very hard to make this re-union happen.

  4. It's a hard call to make. I know Vivian and trust her judgement. Is this a dog at risk or a family pet who has wandered off? That's why we suggest posters, neighborhood children , social media... A large dog can travel a long distance if it chasing something or lost. If it is just out wandering the neighborhood, someone who knows the dog or its owners are likely to see a poster.

  6. I've been enjoying trout at Gosha's and Nueva Posada, both are excellent although different preparations (Gosha's is grilled, while Nueva Posada's is baked almondine). I asked the waiter at Gosha's where the trout came from; he said it came from Mazamitla. Sure enough there is a rainbow trout hatchery in Mazamitla! The second link below(in Spanish) indicates you can fish for trout at the hatchery. https://www.zonaturistica.com/en/things-to-do-and-places-to-visit/1306/farm-barranca-verde-hatchery-of-trouts-mazamitla.html http://www.mazamitla.travel/granja_piscicola.html This week when nosing around the freezer at SL, I saw some trout (trucha is the Spanish word). For 74 pesos, I figured what the heck and bought it. It is to my eye, identical to what is served at both eateries. The head is included with it, so you can be sure it's not a cat 😸 (that is a joke that has to do with buying rabbit at the Chapala Mercado). I thawed it then seasoned with s&p and a light schmear of olive oil. Grilled it in a pre-heated 375 degree gas grill (lid down) skin side down for 5 to 7 minutes; don't flip it, the delicate flesh will break. It was excellent (with a caper tartar sauce). At the restaurants this entire fillet is served as a meal; for a light lunch two of us shared the fillet with some veggies. Heartier appetites might not be fully satisfied with the fillet alone (lookin' at you CG ☺️); may want to add a starch to round out the meal.

  7. On October 5 the Lakeside Community will have it's first ever event to promote recycling in our area, in the 'south' grounds area of the Lake Chapala Society. The LCS has organized this event in coordination with the Ajijic Citizens Recycle Committee ( a pilot project of the Chapala Administration of Pres. Moises Anaya) and together we hope to offer an educational program and just have some fun too .. First the serious stuff.. The admission fee is one recyclable article .. an aluminum can, a plastic bottle (clean and flattened) or whatever you can bring along that we can recycle.. At 10am the day starts with a free coffee and pastry reception (while supplies last) .. we hope the mayor can join us for the official opening of the program at 10:30am. Beginning at 11am we will have a Spanish version of the Climate Reality presentation provided by the Guadalajara Chapter of the International program founded by former US Vice President Al Gore. Also at 11am will be an English orientation into "how, what and why" of recycling in Ajijic.. At 12 noon, the Climate Reality presentation will be given in English and the "how, what and why" will be given in Spanish. Not enough publicity has been given to the importance of the Climate Reality presentation and how fortunate we are that the International group has chosen this event at the LCS for it's first local visit .. Please encourage your Mexican friends to come at 11 for that program and of course all of you who can make it should do so too .. While both presentations are going on ( from aprox. 11am to 1pm) there will be games and recycle information presented to all the children that are present. Making recycling fun and rewarding will be the goal of this time period and hoping that teaching the children is the most effective way of getting this lifestyle change into the home life of all local families.. If you'd like to bring along a little 'prize' for the kids, please feel free to do so.. Sandy Britton, the LCS Vice President is heading up this effort..which will happen to the East of the Pavillion. Beginning at 1pm; we will offer free a selection of tasting foods (donated by 5 local restaurants) and a cash bar will open to everyone. At that point 'The Waynes' will provide music to lift the spirit and during the next few hours the fun part of the day sets in .. while enjoying the music, food and drink we have organized a wide variety of donated items to be auctioned off in 'silent' auctions and live auctions.. The auction offerings include; dinners at local restaurants (Cocinart, Tango, Ninettes among others), gift certificates at boutiques, Spa Treatments, cooking classes, coffee shop visits, there's a 4 day Yoga retreat at the Hotel Montecarlo offered, B&B's packages, numerous artworks, Trips Burgers, a fabulous offering of a 200 liter solar hot water unit, French Champagne and Imported Foie Gras for 4 and many more items. The 'creme de la creme" of auction offerings is a 7 night stay in the Conchas Chinas Hacienda de Los Santos (Puerto Vallarta) .. a luxury home with 7 bedrooms. Comes complete with concierge, house staff and chef !! This home usually rents from $1500 to $2200 US dollars per night .. so this package is worth way more than $10,000 US dollars . (Maximum 14 adults and the reservation is subject to 'black out' dates, of course). With the funds we hope to generate on October 5, our hope is to purchase a plastics compactor, install large recycle collection bins in front of the Recycle Center in west Ajijic (El Bajio), purchase our own truck to facilitate picking up in the village and also taking materials to market in GDL AND we hope to add another employee or more to handle the ever increasing amount collected each day. You've probably seen the recycle containers all around town bursting at the seams! We still estimate we are only receiving 30-40% of what's available and the rest is still going to the dump!! If you cannot make the event that day but would like to help the program, we do accept donations on PayPal in US dollars and cash donation in Pesos. Message me for details on how we can accept your donation. We still do not have a Non Profit status so we cannot at this time give tax exempt receipts. Some people are donating their gardener's services to help at the the Recycle Center one day a week .. One other thing you can do for the program with or without attending this event is to donate a recycle container for your neighborhood or donate one and let us place it in a needy area.. they cost $2,000 pesos for the container and a steel fork to hold folded cardboard. (We ask a small amount $$ for the installation). You can have your name or that of a favorite cause or your business placed on the donation plaque that adorns the container.. If you'd like to bid on the Puerto Vallarta vacation package but can't make the event .. we can designate a 'stand in bidder' for you, just message me and I'll tell you how to execute an absentee bid.. Thank you for taking the time to read all this .. and for your support of the program. It is absolutely amazing how much recylable material is donated every single day in Ajijic! 8. I have had all three over the 21 years I have been coming to Lake Chapala. And I could not find that much difference in delivery time. No I did not do a speed test or number of day comparison. And because they all seemed to be about the same, time wise, I chose the service closest to where I live. which is Sol y Luna, because I live in Ajijic.

  10. You'd have to ask them directly, either at the office or their email. noc@mail.ilox.mx. Because there are not enough people on this board who have it, and there are certainly no members (except one) who have any insight or contact with them beyond a customer participation level. No one can tell you where they are or when they'll be there.

  12. Diatomaceous earth, which is available in Chapala and probably in Ajijic, sprinkled liberally around the base, is a good deterrent.

  13. This is truly wonderful. I am so pleased you are including the two Climate Reality Project presentations. I can only add 3 things about the Climate Crisis: 1 It's real 2. It's us 3. It's bad And it will get worse if we do nothing! Please see the presentations. A lot of hard work has gone into this program. You folks are to be saluted!

  14. Due to a recent theft, I needed to file a denuncia with the Ministerio Público and follow-up documents with the Recuadadora in Chapala. Not feeling completely confident with my español, I sought the help of Roberto Castellanos, a licensed legal interpreter/document translator. Good thing because it turned into a four day ordeal. Not only did Roberto translate with numerous people, he researched first how to approach the issues and committed completion (and success!) in resolving them. If he doesn't already know how to solve a specific problem or perform a certain task, he knows where, or to whom to go to, to find out. Without a doubt, Roberto Castellanos, is your go-to guy for competent, professional and personable assistance. His contact number is 33 1711 5105 or doctranslator@aol.com.

  15. You said "no previous owner", so what are we supposed to think ? Then your "thinking" here is like the rest of your thinking……….WRONG !!!!!! Like time management is a personal decision and a couple of minutes spent on you doesn´t bother my busy day. Hud and I ???????? I can´t print LOL in big enough letters.

  16. It might be the previous owner but doesn't mean that there was security in place. I am thinking you and hud go for coffee often.

  17. I am sure you have already thought of this and are checking.. take her picture to local Vets and see if they did the surgery and can direct you to her owner. Thank you for caring about her, and trying to locate her owners.

  18. .” Pretentious Standards “ ......B S ...you have to be joking ,those standards don’t even come close to the education ,experience and exposure one needs to rise through the ranks and become the Chef...running a professional crew . ...It takes a Chef or a professional restaurateur to recognize a Chef .

  19. For a real lunch treat, Emma's deli in Ajijic (on Ramon Corona across from Tabarka) has great fresh sandwiches. For those who miss it, they make outstanding matzo ball soup. There are a few tables, but take out is a good option there. They open slightly before noon and close at 5. They have fresh bagels on Mondays and Thursdays.😊

  20. CG et al, do you run them under cold purified water or under regular tap water? The deviled eggs in the photo are deviled quail eggs. I made four dozen, and I will never ever ever make them again. Delicious, but omg the work to peel them.
