  1. Hi Dear ones, I'm interested in your recommendations for a holistic dentist to remove my mercury based fillings and replace them with more biocompatible materials. I would also be interested in a longer-term relationship with a holistic dentist to also provide some dentures as needed. For now, I will be a dental tourist, simultaneously evaluating Ajijic and the surrounding area for retirement. I imagine after I retire I'll have another 20, 30 or even 40 years of life left in me oh, so I need to develop a longer-term relationship with a good holistic doctor who is quite younger than me. Anyone have a recommendation for a good holistic dental practice in the surrounding area up to let's say, within 30 minutes to 45 minutes? Any recommendations and advice would be greatly appreciated! Gregory

  5. Tremendous news for those of us with dogs. After hearing that Art is starting his class again, it took me 2 seconds to decide which of my miscreants is going. Art is starting a 6 week, basic obedience class on Sunday, Sept 22 at Pat Lawrie's old dog park in San Antonio. It's between La Floresta and San Antonio on Ramon Corona, #166. 10:30 to noon. If you're interested, call or email Art for details. artthedogguy@yahoo.com 766-3580

  6. Sorry, Donenrique, I just saw your questions. I don't know if the new server was part of the reason for the issues or not, but everything has been great, so far, with the new modem. I don't know if it makes a difference, but when the new hotel went up on the carretera, our speeds drastically improved. When there's a problem, they usually get to it relatively quickly because the hotel is a major customer. Our problems seemed to appear overnight and then continued. That was our first clue that the modem could be the culprit. No matter what we tried, the buffering was horrible. It was about that time that I remembered the previous posting that others had made about modems and I went back to it. Like I said, I figured the $340mxn was worth it to save me a fruitless trip to TM's Ajijic office. We figured that things were so bad, what's $17usd? At worst, it was money down the crapper and at best, it would resolve the problem.

  7. Wow, this has really taken off since I first checked in. To answer some questions: 1) the modem I bought was a Huawei, same as TELMEX. Here's a link for anyone interested: https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-632599189-modem-router-telmex-dos-bandas-hg659-nuevo-envio-gratis-_JM (Obviously, just type in "modems" on ML if this doesn't match what you need--there seem to be a LOT for sale.)The only thing I wasn't sure about was the line type. This one is copper. I bought it because every time TM goes down, it's usually because someone has stolen some of the copper cable...so...I just figured that our line was copper. I'm sure someone a lot more technical than this technodino will be quivering in his/her boots at my ignorance, but it worked. 2) We have routers because our house is a bit large and hubby has "his" tv downstairs and I have "mine" upstairs (we like to watch entirely different programs). The signal has a bit of distance to travel, with dead zones, so the routers help, but they can be a bit of a pig when you're trying to get everything working (hence, the tweaking we had to do when the modem arrived.) The speedtest is usually around 13-15mbs download with 2+ upload. 3) The buffering was happening all of the day with it sometimes improving a bit at night. Many of the channels wouldn't come in. Now, we pretty much get everything out there. I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask if I missed something.

  8. I love furniture that has a dual purpose and I love the combo desk/murphy bed system. You don't even have to clear off the desk when you lower the bed. There are videos available on the net that show how easy this is to put up and down. This is the most popular site for hardware and plans if you decide to go this route... a number of photos can be seen... twin or double or queen. https://www.rockler.com/hiddenbed-fold-out-bed-and-desk-mechanism Maybe Cadillac Furniture can do this for you.... Edited to add: one video... there are many more...

  10. Thank you Bisbee Gal and NLU! Reacting with anger and outburst is a waste of one's energy. It doesn't hurt me or bother me at all - we all know how to block someone here. At least someone can disagree but without being disagreeable. As an adult we share information here to help each other out. Rants at any poster should be unacceptable.

  11. Yes, Windstar, cypermethrin is HIGHLY toxic to cats. In any home with pets, ALWAYS get the formula you applier will use beforehand, and check out all ingredients on line. Also be careful to read labels on any bug spray product you might buy yourself. For example some RAID formulations contain it!

  15. Its not about charity, never was. Im glad you can not understand these pedophile loving, sickos who love to terrorize the small children here with thier gross Zombie , sick behaviour , From what i heard from some of the Mexican people, the event may not go so smoothly for the ugly gringos this year, time will tell. I just read about a Canadian in Cancun who was allegedly a pedophile, seems that many of the Mexican people have had enough of pedophiles and thier supporters, the guys body was rolled up in a rug, reports said he died hard, if he was indeed a child abuser, I wont be crying about his demise. May he and all child abusers rest in hell. By the way, I was once a significate donor to the red cross, but have not given a dime since they allowed this evil to be associated with tier name.

  18. I appreciate your original post. There are many types of expats here. Some have 2nd homes in the US; some have family in the US whom they visit often and continue to get their medical care there, including Medicare. Some live here full time but have a pre-existing condition that may someday need expensive treatment/surgery, and so they have decided to keep their Medicare. Some live here and think they will never ever go back.....never say never. Crap happens. Smart to keep abreast of all medical options, changes in coverage, whether it be Medicare or SP or IMSS or private insurance.

  20. After signing up with Ilox when the Ajijic office first opened about six months ago and and many broken promises (2 months, 2 more months, then three weeks ago "one week") there is now a rainbow in the sky! I am in SAT on Jesus Garcia in front of the lake and they had strung cable down my street many weeks ago. Yesterday I saw a Ilox crew (clearly marked uniforms and truck) near the corner on my street and La Paz (the next up cross street) and stopped to talk to them. It looked like they were installing some kind of junction box and I explained my situation and asked for a hook-up time estimate to my house a block away. One said "uno semana" but another chimed in "Posiblemente dos semanas". I got rid of my expensive Dish Satellite account months ago and signed up for the My Wi-Fi streaming service in anticipation of Ilox...now very spotty with buffering and freezing with Telmex and have been assured that all will be good when that magic day comes when I can say "Hasta la vista" to Telmex and have the huge choice of channels and viewing options as steady as a rock. Hope springs eternal!

  21. Ajijic is overflowing with gringos and Mexicans almost all year round now. If I had to do it over, I would live in Chapala as things are cheaper, especially rents and you don't have to spend time and gasoline stuck in traffic on the Carretera (highway). They have Soriana, which is a little more expensive than Walmart, but not that much. During high season when the snowbirds are here, traffic on the Carretera between San Antonio and West Ajijic is a slow process to get anywhere. San Juan Cosala is a little too rustic for me. I think my Spanish is good enough to survive in Jocotepec, but now I like Chapala more. Many nice people there. I think you can find rentals in Chapala almost anytime of the year. Ajijic is a little more difficult in high season.

  22. And how many of those were here in Mexico? I always had indoor/outdoor cats NOB too. But here? In the last 21 years in this area, when I still permitted easy outdoor access, I've had 2 that died after catching and eating mice that had eaten poison, and one more that got a bad infection from lizards she ate, tearing her esophagus and giving her an unstoppable infection. Mexican neighbors nearby have lost many to poison ( another neighbor keeps a dirty back yard and is known to be liberal with the stuff) including a mom cat that had 2-week old babies. Another Mexican neighbor lost a very fav cat because a neighbor was taking pot shots from his balcony with a shotgun loaded with home-made shells --- lead pellets. Vet found 50 pellets on xray but since we didn't get the cat to him for 14 hours, it was too late to save him. Then there's Rosa and Toño, whose mom cat and HER mom both got exposed to a neighborhood cat with FeLv. Kittens in one litter born dead. Kittens in other all positive and had to be EU. All adults cats in the house sterilized immediately and Rosa and Toño strictly warned not to get any more until all die off (and they will) because the adults are positive as well. And that's only ONE of the many fatal diseases etc. awaiting cats exposed to local ferals. That's before we talk about kids that try to catch/torture cats, or street dogs with strong prey drive who kill cats for fun or food. So while the four I had left when I closed the doors back in 2004 didn't like it at first, they all adjusted. Two are gone now (13 and 15) due to illnesses and a 16-yr old is going strong. Four aged 5 and under will never set one paw outside, and likely will also live long and happy lives. So judge not when you don't know the realities of cat life in Mexico

  24. The problem seems to be with all the dishonest people who generally realize how easy it is to scam any government funded plan and especially Medicare. Do a search on Medicare fraud and you will see how big a problem it is. Maybe if we put a bounty on these low-lifes the rest of us could have everything at a lower cost. But then some people would complain we are abusing "the poorest among us". Right, if you buy that I have this bridge that I really need to sell, and today only....

  25. I posted the article because it was the first time I heard of a US insurance company sending patients to Mexico for medical services and paying for their care here. I found that a hopeful sign that perhaps one day Medicare would see the cost savings in allowing expats in Mexico to be covered for medical services here. I really don't care if it is a US doctor or a Mexican doctor; I have seen excellent doctors and gotten great care on both sides of the border. I just saw it as a sign that if one insurer is doing this, others may follow with the ultimate hope that Medicare would get in on the action. Given that Mexican doctors would be even more cost-saving (no transportation costs, lower wages), it may dawn on US insurers to expand the program to include Mexican doctors. Yeah, yeah....pie in the sky.

  26. The closest fabric store other than the one in Chapala is the fabric warebouse Textiles Capilla. This is on the highway to Guadalajara right after the La Barca highway. Watch for the Pepsi plant on the right and the warehouse is immediately following on the road that exits to the right. Real hit and miss as to what they have. In my opinion, the best fabric store in Guadalajara is Centro Mercantil Villanueva on Pedro Buzeta street in Santa Teresita. Large selection of all kinds of nice quality fabrics at reasonable prices. Also has notions section and some yarn. Even carries Burda patterns.

  27. I don't think you can jeopardize your permanente status simply by not "checking out", in fact some permanentes who drive back and forth to the US don't even bother to check out. The way you jeopardize your status is by reentering Mexico and checking the "tourist" box on the FMM, or not making sure that the INM officer understands that you are not tourist, but a resident.

  29. About 3 years ago, I crossed using the CBX at Tijuana for the first time. What others have said is exactly what happened to me: got my baggage at baggage claim, walked back a few feet and got my CBX ticket, and walked across the bridge, showing my USA passport to the INM desk on the bridge. Because it was my first time using the CBX, a USA government employee actually took me across the bridge, asked if I wanted to see how to get back into the bridge on my return trip to Mexico, walked me through the whole process, showed me every detail, and walked me to the door, where my friend was waiting to pick me up. I was amazed by the extraordinary service I received--without asking, just as a favor--from the USA government. Bdlington, I'm sorry your experience was less than excellent. That guy you talked to didn't know what he was talking about and caused you a bunch of problems.

  32. A little bit of water is not going to hurt... in fact, may make you stronger. Of course, it depends where the water comes from. 1. Yes, really clean; we're talking about bacteria that you would worry would harm your gut, not your skin. 2. No, this isn't like water that has creepy, pustulating disease floating in it. 3. Just wash the dishes. After the dishes dry off, any "problem" is gone. Look, I live in Riberas where the water is supposedly really nasty, and I brush my teeth with tap water every day. I do not drink it, however. And I use tap water to steam my vegetables.

  33. I believe it is already catching on. I'm still in the US, not retired yet. Plan on being retired and at Lakeside by November 1. Was going to retire earlier this year although my local US doctor kept making me wait for a knee replacement. Went back after much research and told him if he wasn't going to perform the replacement then I am having it done in GAD for about the same as my total out of pocket expense. Hmmm, all of a sudden, they got me in and had it replaced on July 8th. Recovering well, all household items sold or in storage, house for sale and have a place rented in Ajijic November 1 through January. My biggest fear is the American mentality, (a cancer) appears to be spreading into Mexico. I wish people would just chill and forget their past values and establish better values? Just a thought.

  34. Just called them. 45 mins. Same bs as last week, but last week they said they knew about the problem, today no. Insisted was only me...told them no, my neighbours as well and a lot of san Antonio and parts of la floresta. Told them if they didnt get it sorted as promised they will be losing more customers. Water off a ducks back. But yes im going to telmex office asap. Ridiculous when i cant even watch my own tv system.

  35. Doubt very much it's being four laned. Heard the same about walking and bicycling lane. Too many buildings and houses close to the road to widen to four lanes without a major commitment. Thought they might put in suicide lanes, which they will truly be.

For those of us who cannot mentally, spiritually, or emotionally bear to step foot NOB again, and/or who no longer feel safe in a country of gun nuts and mentally deranged white supremacists, they couldn't pay us to get care there. Furthermore, all the constant nattering about health care is enough to make anybody sick. Can we please talk about shitty internet service some more?
