  1. Thank you. I was just going to ask why somebody is inclined to answer this way. Not helpful at all. Why can't they just say that $500.00 is very low rent for the area, especially for a two bedroom/two bath house with parking as described? Hopefully the OP has done or will.do research about rental availability and cost before moving here.

  2. *264 supposedly kills unwanted text ads. To cancel TelCel TIPS (consejos): send NO to 2525. Follow instr. To cancel CHAT: send BOR to 2525. Pause PROFILE (perfil): PAU to 2525. This supposedly deletes your profile so that nothing can be sent. STOP UNOTV texts: send a text with BAJA to 2222. Did this May 31, 2018. OR 2252.

  3. Covered parking for two vehicles and a trailer is really a reach at any price.

  4. Lots of options if that's per week! If per month, go into the smaller villages / pueblos, and ask at the plazas / stores there. You'll find something basic from a local to meet the spec.

  6. For those who have made the switch and are interested in logging into your account to look at statements, billing history and make a payment here's how. The main page is located at http://www.ilox.mx/ At the bottom of the page there are 6 boxes. The rightmost one on the top row is called "Más Servicios". Click that to box to get to the login page. There you enter the email address you gave ILOX when you signed up. The password instructions reference a FSAN that don't exist the back of the black 4 port modem. Maybe it does on the 2 port but if your modem does not have a FSAN you enter the SN (serial number) that starts with FHTT. The first 4 characters must be entered upper case while the rest are lower case. Auto payments by credit card must be set up at the office.

  7. Hello all you lovely people, My wife and I are exploring a move to La Ribera and to that end, we're heading down in December to reconnoiter. I have been happily watching all the videos from the two Jerrys and have learned a bunch.....but!! I have a few passions: 1. I have been playing guitar for 55 years (you'd think I'd be better at it than I am) and love love love the Blues and Rock and Roll. I am hoping there are a few other old farts also so inclined. I plan to come down, once we move, with a few guitars and an amp or two. I am guessing gear is pretty available in Guadalajara?? 2. I have been flying since 1979 and I do see a little airport up the road right on the lake. Any pilots out there? 3. I am a very passionate Largemouth Bass and Trout angler. I keep reading reports of some of the best Bass fishing in the world on Laguna Chapala or nearby. Looks like there is even a fishing club. I will surely be looking for some folks who want to drink coffee and swap a few lies! Oh...almost forgot...I have been hearing rumors about Peacock Bass. Do I have to go to the Amazon or have a few made it north? We have joined the Society and been in contact with a few folks. We are coming down in December for our first "feet on the ground" look see! Hope to meet a few of you. David Rodwell, Winston Salem, NC david@davidrodwell.com

  9. Ian Greenwood: "Anyone who goes to a restaurant which has been open less than a week and posts an extremely negative review probably received the food and service they deserved .... lemmings perhaps ?" ..... this is what I get when I post. Smarts just a little for someone to be so caustic. If food or service is bad ... it is bad and should be reported as such for those of us that don't have so much money that it doesn't matter if you throw some of it away. There are those that have enjoyed this chicken, so now when we decide to go, we will at least know to watch what is coming out of the kitchen, pay attention to the smell of the place ... if all is good that day, then we will probably enjoy the chicken also. But if it isn't we will know that if we are getting "take-out" not to trust and to look at it before we pay and walk out the door.

  10. The Ajijic Fishing Club will meet on Monday, December 2 at 9:00 am. The location is Fonda Dona Lola. They meet on the first Monday of each month. There is bass fishing at multiple lakes within a half day's drive from Ajijic and Lake Chapala has bass, too. The fishing club is gauging interest in a peacock bass trip to the Amazon or Panama or both. Here is a link to their website. There is a link to the club's Facebook page on the website. https://drhook50hp.wixsite.com/ajijicfishingclub

  11. There have been 2 international Large Mouth bass tournaments in Lake Chapala now. The Peacock Bass rumour is pure BS. Pic is in front of the Town of Chapala. There may be some stocked Rainbow Trout fishing in Michoacan and I believe that there are some rivers and streams in Mexico stocked with Golden.

  15. I posted the article because it was the first time I heard of a US insurance company sending patients to Mexico for medical services and paying for their care here. I found that a hopeful sign that perhaps one day Medicare would see the cost savings in allowing expats in Mexico to be covered for medical services here. I really don't care if it is a US doctor or a Mexican doctor; I have seen excellent doctors and gotten great care on both sides of the border. I just saw it as a sign that if one insurer is doing this, others may follow with the ultimate hope that Medicare would get in on the action. Given that Mexican doctors would be even more cost-saving (no transportation costs, lower wages), it may dawn on US insurers to expand the program to include Mexican doctors. Yeah, yeah....pie in the sky.

  16. Producing large quantities of correctly fried chicken is virtually impossible without commercial pressure fryers . Regular commercial deep fryers cannot hold the 325 degree temps needed when you drop 6 - 8 pieces of room temp chicken in there..never mind refrigerated ! The temptation is to raise the temp , which burns the coating before the chicken is cooked .The size of the chicken is also V I P. .. in the U S the bird of choice is usually a “ broiler / fryer “ which is a designated age and size , not to be confused with a “ spring chicken “.... not too many of them around here anyway....no offense ladies......

  17. The thing is, it's not just a question of time, with oil. It's how much it's been used. Oil that stays hot enough to cook dozens and dozens of pieces just... wears out.

  18. Or Canada. Neither are the alleged antique shops here but like anything, you can find exceptions for the odd treasure. As an example,I got this Maine, Federal period ,circa 1820, tilt top lamp table from an antique consignment shop in west Ajijic which is no longer there unfortunately.

  19. It seems a shame to smack a restaurant so early in the game, but Ismat should know his stuff by now. My guess is he caught a taste for a quick buck selling steamtray food those first couple of months at Pancho's, and thought this would be a good (and needed) idea. I waited 30 minutes for my order, because they took phone-in orders before they cooked mine. Okay, they'll learn. The manager even said they need a third fryer to keep up. I had no complaints at the time about that. Here's what I didn't like: the worst fried chicken I may have ever had. Overcooked by many minutes, practically black. When chicken skin gets that overdone, it becomes a crusty displeasure. And greasy... way too greasy. A companion said there was no flavour in the chicken, either. Then I found out on my way home with my takeout order that they gave me two thighs and two wings instead of thighs and legs. $119p for four pieces, whatever they are, is twice what Soriana and Walmart charge. Why compare to those stores? Because they use pressure fryers, on timers, which means they cook properly internally without burning on the outside. But it's more than that. I was perfectly happy to pay the price when I thought it might be good. After all, I went there and ordered, knowing the cost. No, it was the smell of overripe chicken that finally did me in. You know that smell that chicken gets when it's been thawed for too long? Considering the rather large orders and long wait times, I would assume that they were using fresher and fresher birds... but maybe not. And when you over-use deep-fryer oil, it gets burned itself, and takes on the flavour of whatever is in it. So that smell, just a whiff of it, was probably a mix of both overexposed skin and flavoured grease. On the plus side, a couple of nice small warm buns (oh, burnt on one side from being on the flatop), some delicious "country gravy" as one of the sauce selections (delicious for me means overly salted for many others), and cheery service. I could not finish the chicken, and I love fried chicken. My stomach is still reeling; not from bad chicken, but too much grease and cooking. (NOTE: I didn't compare it to Tony's fried chicken, which is also costly these days, because that's not southern fried chicken. That is some kind of battered chicken I've never seen anywhere else.)

  23. Natasha, you are correct that anyone with pets need to provide for their care in case of death, sickness, etc. However, the way you deliver your message may not be as well accepted as you might wish. It very much felt like you were jumping down the poster's throat. Of course, the poster did not have to take on their friend's responsibility and the way they were verbally attacked may not encourage looking further for a home for this pet. I sure hope the poster knows that many of us are so thankful they are helping their friend.

  24. Natasha answerwas stillinsensitive.. No one chooses to have dementia , drop dead some people plan for that but dementia is anotherr problem and few people thingk about that. I have a dog that I adopted because the owner had dementia.. THe owner love his dog bu became incable of taking care of it and really did not realize it.. It is life things happen.. Yes we should all think about our pets and not adopt when we are in our 70´s without makingproision but no one is perfect and it happens. I can see how people who devote their time helping pets get very annoyed about this type of situation as well..but still no one is perfect.

  25. Warehouse is located on Jose Santana Ote Just before you get to Hidalgo Eje Sur. From plaza you can walk one block south on Hidalgo Eje Sur turn left at Jose Santana Ote and you are there. I bought a sleeper couch and table and chairs at prices cheaper than Ajijic or Chapala.

  26. "Cooked to order" makes no difference if it comes out like burnt toast, Tom. And Soriana's chicken goes fast. And to me there is a huge difference between "nit-picking" and "disgust". And Tom: what about the smell I mentioned? I should add, it wasn't just mine... everyone's plate looked the same. I didn't see the takeout stuff, of course.
