Speculation and innuendo about her age and condition will only stop on an individual by individual decision and not something mandated as a group order by another member. It has always been that way on these forums. That aside, the facts we do know are indisputable, such as where the vehicle started and where it ended up. We also know that this is entirely outside the norm for how one should leave a parking area in front of Pancho´s Deli. We know that there can´t be hardly any good or legitimate reasons for doing same. Most people have given the benefit of the doubt and said it was not deliberate but unintended, which is the softer approach. Even if you take the softest, kindest, gentler approach, you still have to question the driver´s ability, to be driving. Of the millions of drivers in Jalisco, Mexican and foreigners, how many drive through store fronts for any reason, or no reason?...….not many. To treat it as a non-event and just another "all in a normal day" of traffic mishaps, and feel sorry for the poor lady, is really putting your head in the sand. The punishment shouldn´t be greater than the crime but ignoring it or playing it down because I´ll get you when you have accident, escapes my reasoning.5 points

Exactly, saying she had an "accident" and not be held accountable or that´s somehow acceptable doesn´t cut it with me. Aging should not be an excuse for poor driving ability for senior or any other citizens. Most of these driving through store fronts in this area over the last few years has been older drivers who should not be driving. It´s like. "Oh I only drove through one or two and it was an "accident". Give me a break......there comes a time when people just don´t have the physical reflexes or become mentally "confused", AND SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING.4 points

Thanks, but this is like one big safety pin. Easy to keep track of the sizes. Crown Royal bags are for my marbles... 😉3 points

It's a hard thing to face, but many of us realize it: there comes a time in old age that some of us are no longer good drivers, we're a danger to ourselves and others. Some very responsible people give up driving cars. Others, even after being the cause of bad accidents because of their age-related loss of skills, keep right on driving. We don't know what caused this woman to have this accident. I wish we would stop speculating about her. But whatever happened that made this driver lose control could happen again to some other driver in our community. Actually something like it is bound to happen again. Has happened, will happen again. I think about the local businesses that create parking directly in front of their stores or restaurants, where passing customers are potentially at risk from an accident like the one we're talking about. Worse yet, I never pull in to park in front of Super Lake without being distressed to see the Mexican women sitting on the steps with their small children on their laps or letting them run around near the cars coming or leaving every day. To me, there's a horrible accident waiting to happen. Some people have brought it up to management at Super Lake, I've heard. But nothing changes. At the very least, as Slainte39 mentioned, barriers are needed. Lexy3 points

It is amazing to me that so many "holier than thou" people are on this board. So many perfect people who never, ever have made a mistake. It is called an "accident" for a reason. ac·ci·dent noun an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury. "he had an accident at the factory" synonyms: mishap, misfortune, misadventure, mischance, unfortunate incident, injury, disaster, tragedy, catastrophe, contretemps, calamity, blow, trouble, problem, difficulty; technicalcasualty "he was involved in an accident at work" . an event that happens by chance or that is without apparent or deliberate cause. "the pregnancy was an accident" synonyms: chance, mere chance, coincidence, twist of fate, freak, hazard; , I doubt she did it on purpose.3 points

Mike has just been found! A friend spotted him a couple miles away walking with a woman and her young son. They got the reward and Diane got her dog. Thank you very much to all of you for your support.😗2 points

Is this the only time the word "confused" is used in this thread? I don´t know if she was confused or not, but I do know there is a difference on gear identification between R and D, and not being able to handle that minor aspect of driving would have to be poor eyesight, confusion, or possibly a medical condition, all or any of which, should preclude one from driving.2 points
-
What more facts? you have seen the photos of where the vehicle wound up, the knocked down steel pipe in concrete, the shattered to a million pieces plate glass store front. I suppose we will get a confession from the Caterpillar operator who shoved her through the obstacles.2 points
-
SHE did not say she was confused. YOU all said she was confused. You are putting words in this woman's mouth, and presuming absolute horseshit about her. Leave the damn woman alone. Or I'll be there to snark and chortle the next time you have an accident.2 points
-
My father had this problem and after 2 accidents we had to stop him from driving. When you get older you can get confused easily.2 points
-
No one is saying she did it on purpose. She admitted that she was confused. As we get older, our reflexes usually slow down. Her reaction time could also be impaired due to medications she may be taking. The driver should have to take a complete driving test just to make sure that she is capable, so that she doesn't hurt herself or others.2 points

Sometimes, such strange things happen because of a very bad habit, You may have seen evidence of it when following a car with occasional brake lights but no slowing or stopping. It happens when the left foot is used for the brake pedal, and the right foot for the accelerator; a very improper and dangerous habit. In a panic, confusion results and both feet may be pressed at the same time. Brake failure, or full throttle? Drive with your right foot only, unless you have manual transmission and a clutch.2 points
-
I can't believe the crap on this thread. NO ONE was hurt. I was there; spoke with the lady. Yes, she got in the wrong gear, and as bad luck would have it, her brakes repeatedly failed. She has insurance. Pancho has insurance. The woman is incredibly distraught, and Pancho is pretty upset himself... just think of what they are both going through. By the way, she has her driver's license, and the postulation that people come down here and avoid having such a thing is ageist and ridiculous. A gigantic unfounded rumour within a rumour. Shame.2 points

Sounds like a scam. Driving to 3 hospitals? Any medical profesional would know which ones to call and unfortunately many are taken advantage of for rush issues. Prepare ahead of time or be a victim. There are many affordable hospitals but more crooked doctors who prey on the elderly and foreigners.2 points

Oh please, no more leaf blowers. They are so noisy as compared to the nice old fashioned swish of a homemade mexican broom. Our neighbour has one and I would like to grab it and throw it into the lake. He revs it up and down up and down to get a leaf out of a crack. Sooo annoying. Please lets not add more noise to our Enviroment.2 points

First I've heard of US medical insurance company arranging and paying for non-emergency surgery in Mexico for US patients. Maybe Medicare will get the hint https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/09/business/medical-tourism-mexico.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage&1 point

Twice in recent weeks I’ve bought wonderful fresh farm raised mussels at Costa Alegre , (near Tony’s and Superlake ) . I bought two kilos and found only half a dozen dead ones .They are not necessarily cheap 170 pesos per kilo but if like me you are addicted to moules and frites ..well worth it .perhaps not quite as good as Prince Edward Isle but awful close ...young , sweet from the cold waters of the northern Baja .1 point

thankyou i guess i just didnt know why people would mention my name with other people i dont know. nor do they know me. the 1st situation was explained by many and recently i posted what i thought might be valuble information on a couple of all natural items that might help people sleep during the noise and some natural drops for dogs who get fearful of thunderstorms and cohetes as my dogs do. as i said i evidently offended people that post and was unkind to you but have my name thrown in when all i was doing was reading information that is good information especially construction information. i welcome anyone to pm me if there is a problem but right nonw i will only post information that i feel may be of some use for some people. certainly got off on the wrong foot by simply not understanding a long time running deal with someone and went to the defense of someone i did not know and have been hammered ever since. thankyou for your comment..it certainly helped slaint39. bonbelle1 point

I thought what Wookie reported about her experience was fair, even understnding of the situation the owners had that evening. If the food was cold, it was cold--Wookie was tolerant, the owners apologetic and quick to respond. And, she says, it isn't Tex-Mex, and sounds like it isn't. A helpful review in my opinion. Rolly Brook was a kind and generous person who, over the internet, helped a lot of us figure out how to move to Mexico, and he did it with extraordinary grace. When he moved his life here, México gave him a giant, welcoming hug. And he hugged México back. Thank you for all those lessons Rolly and RIP.1 point

The updates and newer programs that come along with Windows 10 are designed to run on machines more powerful than your original Windows 7 laptop. And so things tend to run slower. In particular, video display drivers... the software that runs your screen and everything on it... often can not keep up-to-date, and they can really slow you down. Microsoft knows this, but in their efforts to get everyone onto Windows 10, they have little regard for the impact that pushing people from 7 to 10 might have. If you hold down the CTRL - SHIFT and ESC keys at the same time, you will get a window. One tab is labelled Performance. It shows a graph of how busy your computer's CPU gets. Watch this graph when nothing else is happening on the computer, with no programs open. It should stay fairly low. If it appears to constantly spike to 25, 40, 60, 90%, then you undoubtedly have a slow PC. What it shows is how busy the computer is, and if it is busy when you are doing nothing, Windows has been damaged internally. All Windows computers display this reduction in speed over 3, 4 or 5 years. All can be fixed by reinstalling Windows. But I recommend against it unless you just can't deal with it anymore... it's a fairly big job to do it right.1 point

This is an option you might explore... There is a gentleman who lives locally, his name is Alex Peterson who brings packages sent to him at a Laredo address and brings them to lakeside about once a month. I have found his fees very reasonable. this is his e- mail address: rapidpackman at gmail.com .. substitute the 'at' with a @ .. That would be the second leg of getting your books and telescope here. . Check out sending it from your location to Alex at his Laredo, Texas address via GreyHound bus - they do ship packages in the US . They have a very good on-line system to figure out the cost of sending the package(s) .. you would would need to have a guess for the dimensions of the package... and they will insure each package ,up to $1,000 USD.. I do not believe they are 'cheap' , maybe easonable compared to airline luggae - I don't know .. but it might be an option for you .. This way you can figure out if you want to use this method, air lines luggage costs , or ?? PS .. if you can not get your small telescope sent down, contact me.. I have a small Tasco 20X-60X50mm zoom telescope that you can have, that belonged to my husband.1 point

I guess I've been living in Mexico too long. Can't think of a thing that I miss. When I first arrived in Mexico, there were a LOT of things that I missed but the times they are a changin' and nearly everything that I missed is now available here. I am also willing to try new flavours and presentations. YMMV.1 point

When in the mood for one, I miss Manhattan's Kosher delis serving piled-high pastami on rye sandwiches. But I really, really miss those plain, no-frills restaurants in Chinatown specializing in Hunan or Szchuan cuisine and the Chinese places in my neighborhood that would deliver that food pronto. We stopped at the Tucson consulate on our way here. They were extremely helpful and even bent the rules a bit so we could get our visa. A word of caution- We saw people who seemed to have more money than we did arguing with the consulate staff when asked for additional information. It did not go well for them and frankly, they were an embarrassment. Be kind, give or get the staff what they ask for, keep your mouth shut unless they ask you a question, and DO NOT question their system. And please, do not arrive with the attitude I can already detect in your post. We have far too many people here already who get their panties in a twist over nada.1 point

Property taxes in Mexico do not pay for anything like you think. Their tax distribution system is federal. IVA taxes and SAT taxes are distributed by the federal and state governments according to population and budgets proposed and approved and federal low interest loans. Be assured paying a pittance in property taxes is because there is a clause in the Mexican Constitution called Patrimonio Rights: https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrimonio "Patrimonio:" - Heritage " Heritage - Wikipedia: Equity is the combined property and rights, charges and obligations, ... From this point of view, the value of the assets that are ..." Legal definition: The patrimony is the combined property and rights, charges and obligations, belonging to a person, legal entity." ... which prohibits any government charging property taxes in excess of what the poorest families can afford to pay each year.1 point

I just don't hear any of it anymore, praise or condemnation, since nothing changes. For less than $200 US a year in property taxes I figure I buy some group of 4 a nice dinner at in some conference city where they contract for municipal services we don't want or need. What I get tired of is the whining. Add $275 more to your tax bill and then spend it on your own street fixing potholes lots of guys know how to do that work. Or for $100 pesos a week hire a neighbor kid to put clean bags in the abandoned wastecans on poles on your street and they can take them ut on trash day too. That was another poorly executed cleanup plan with no funding. My next expenditure on my street is going to be painting the poles grey or brown over the "art" kittie cat faces or butterflies or bows from a couple years back art effort. Those things look terrible all weathered. I got tired of being disappointed.1 point

In my case we had eight foot compound walls, so that didn't work out - although it didn't stop me from chucking fallen palm fronds over the wall into the vacant lot next door as is traditional locally - and to be fair, several of the palms were on the lot line so depending on the wind, most fell over there anyway, I just added to the collection.1 point

When I went looking for one a few years ago I had to go to Guad and at Home Depot the small one was at that time $820p, the same thing NOB is about $35. So, I bought NOB and imported it for my gardener. And, as far as neighbors not liking it? - nobody blows leaves at midnight unlike music until all hours and barking dogs with no "off" switch.1 point
