  1. Chillin, pappysmarket--stop the usual crap, please, that you two play at on these forums. You're two colossal narcissists and nobody thinks you're as cute and clever as you think you are. I'm looking for and need a serious answer to my post. Lexy

  2. I presume you didn't read my post. They - tradesmen - know how to communicate with their clients. It appears the OP doesn't know how. That is his problem that has him so frustrated probably.

  3. I’ m sorry I should have stipulated....”in Mexico “ ....let’s not forget we are in a small Mexican town , many of these wonderful would be entrepreneurs are families risking hard earned dollars in the hope of making a living , without professional chefs or service staff . The idea that we should denigrate their efforts so soon after opening just pisses me off ...unless you’ve ever been in the arena etc .etc ,you probably wouldn’t understand . Lakeside 7 asks how about soft openings ,wonderful...the only way.. if you can afford to give away food for a week or more ! Because of my usual high end competition my highly choreographed openings last at least two weeks and cost a significant amount of money . The first few days we only feed the staff...and l have at least four professional cooks /chefs , beside myself..then I gradually incorporate the public ,much to their chagrin... only two tables every half hour...no more than 4 -6 persons . The longer they can’t get a reservation , the more they want to come...we still limit numbers for weeks ! By now I’m sure I’m boring you all . My main point is... ‘’ give ‘em a chance ‘’...spend a few dollars...just maybe a sows ear will become a silk purse with your help . If

  4. RIP Rolly. He would have been 89 next Tuesday. He selflessly helped countless people with his informative blog on all things Mexican. Who among you who wax poetic about this wonderful guy actually repaid him in a small way by spending some time visiting with him? He told me that hardly anyone did.He welcomed being able to converse with a visitor even though it was an effort to speak with the hole in his throat.

  5. Chillin, if you are not interested in discussing rib eye steak why even get involved in a thread about RES? If your interest is in poking, prodding, insulting other posters you are on the wrong web board as the mods here have often enough pointed out. Why not just let people discuss a topic in which you claim to have no interest if you are not spoiling for a fight?

  7. That range of symptoms suggests that you see a good orthopedic doctor for evaluation. I am very pleased with mine and he is not the kind of doctor "looking for work". DR. Gabriel Martinez, who comes into Quality Care at the Laguna Mall on Wednesdays. Rare quality: he listens.

  10. Very good advice in this particular incidence as someone should be supervising the OP on such matters.

  11. You might be more successful getting the subject back on topic by, oh I don’t know, talking about the topic. But you have said you are not interested in this topic. I completely understand certain types of people getting under your skin. However, this really is not the venue for dealing with that in your preferred manner. It has previously been suggested that people take these types of discussions into private messages and have at it. Of course, this does not provide an audience for your attempt to take someone down a peg or two which appears to be part of what you want. Believe me, I have been there. It takes way more energy than I am interested in expending at this point in my life — you know, like nearer to the end of it than I am comfortable being.

  16. Did it ever occur to you that some of us don’t like to fly?
    1 point
  17. save money, expenses and time fly a discount airline by the time you pay hotels, gas. tolls, food there is no other option that can beat a discount airline. people drive down, because they want to have access to thier own car, or they are bringing down items they can bring on a plane. Their is no way you will save money by sharing a ride. unless you have some secret or reason , us lakesiders don't know about. it safer also, flying is much safer than a long distance drive in a car, is she afraid of flying, maybe that is the reason.

  19. CG already won the prize. It's a chuck roast approximately 4 inches thick closest to the large end of the prime rib and furthest from the shoulder. One can easily see where those ribs are the resemblance to the large end of the prime rib 6-8.The great Canadian Super Store had frequent specials on these chuck roasts, about 1/4 the price of a prime rib roast. I would get 2 nice thick quality rib [but smaller] steaks and the rest i would use for goulash and thinly cut some for my Italian steak on a bun. When that wasn't on sale I would get the prime rib 6-8 and cut that into steak. Chuck aka blade yes . 7 bone chuck is the portion closest to shoulder and doesn't have that cut in it that looks like prime rib. note the difference in the blade bone shape in this picture of a 7 bone portion of the chuck/blade. Apparently it's called that because the blade bone sort of resembles a 7. the portion under the blade is useful for thinly cutting for Italian steak on a bun. the rest is good for stews/goulash or whole as pot roast.

  20. Also, I am remembering when Mr. Greenwood said very negative things about my posting of the Southern Sisters that did not serve Southern food. When I posted that Southern sweet tea doesn't come unsweetened and cream gravy isn't the consistency of milk, and that biscuits were not corn muffins, etc. he was upset about that as well. Unfortunately, they didn't change their recipes nor did they learn how to cook and it is now a very good pet place.

  21. I've lived here long enough to know not to expect "everything right" when a restaurant opens. And yes, this is definitely a family run operation. So while I usually insist on waiting a couple of weeks before trying a place, I disregarded that in this case. Tonight I went there for the second time because some friends really wanted to try it out. We were a party of five and intentionally chose to go "late", arriving at 7:15-7:30, hoping they'd be less busy, etc. We didn't want to overwhelm them during rush hour, etc. Their menu is extensive. Being a Friday night I thought they'd come back to the table and say "we've run out of that". Nope. Five people ordered five different items and all arrived in a timely manner. And it was all hot. And the salsas were great, again. And everyone seemed happy. Admittedly, I liked what I had tonight (Chile Colorado) better than what I had the first time (a smothered burrito), but that's just me and my taste. Prices are so reasonable at Elena's, trying it out is not placing a big bet. Roll the dice.

  22. Your best source of current information is the INM website. All the requirements for temporary (temporal) or permanent (permanente) resident status (there's been no "inmigrado" for years) are outlined there. Depending on your heritage, marital status to a Mexican national, finances and current residency status, the information and requirements differ and are too specific and variable to provide you with a definitive answer for your situation. Application (with some few exceptions) starts outside of Mexico at a Mexican consulate and, for most, can be started on your own.

  23. Fill out the one you have. Rip off the lower smaller half. If you want when you pass through Immigration at the airport you could mention you lost the other FMM half and this is another FMM form. If not I feel it won't matter one way or the other. They have all your data they need. Don't worry it is common.

  28. I reread this thread to be sure I had not missed something. The OP talked about “thoughtless, rude, inconsiderate tradesmen” who don’t make a telephone call when they will be late or not be able to keep an appointment. Every comment after that discussed this problem. Where did you come up with this being “apologists for scam artists” and telling these imaginary posters to go jump in the lake? But, that was not enough. You continued your rant calling these people “criminal co-conspirators” along with the Mexican “crooks” they defend. Really? Workers are crooks and criminals because they don’t call or show up when they say they will? Over-react much?

  29. Oh My Goodness ! And here I thought it was really quite simple. A matter of common sense, good manners, a grasp of communication skills, and an understanding of the culture where you live.

  30. I love the show, too. I don't hit the tianguis any more, but two brothers down at the bottom end should still be there. One sells flowers; on the other side of the street, they make the tostadas, and I would buy a huge bag (20 pesos!) and ask for extra salt. What a great hot snack.

  31. My personal experience, thus not an opinion nor factually correct except in my one case, was that my fibre speed decreased by over half over about 3 months after Telmex switched us over in PV. Whether that was due to intentional throttling by Telmex, maybe everyone gets the top speed at first or because others were added, I'm not smart enough to know but in my case, that was the result. Hope I didn't waste too much of GH's time.

  33. I have written that I was not interested in someone hanging out their memories to dry, from another country, in another culture, from 50 years ago. This is the same man who has claimed, many times, that he is writing his autobiography. Snork! indeed. I know about blade in beef chuck. If you look under the what I miss Lakeside, I posted a couple weeks ago that I missed this fatty cut, cooked in a ceramic Romertopf cooker for a couple of hours.

  34. While I apologise for not keeping up with every detail of Pedrostronics. I do not find it interesting. The part that I did find interesting is that you claim to be in management training - for a company which became known as the worst example of labour and management relations - in Canadian history! They still have problems finding workers. I have two nephews that worked there for a very short time. They managed to get special permission to sponsor Mexican workers, with their families (this is unusual). About 18 families came, a few months later, only 4 remained. Sound familiar? https://www.packingtown.org/timeline.html

  35. The topic is "Thoughtless trades people". For a very general idea about using, for example, a simple phone message template or app to provide a specialized, convenient and timely source of actionable information, particularly for those familiar with such technology but not its' most efficient use, see: https://captology.stanford.edu/about/what-is-captology.html

  38. Mainecoons is 100% correct. Use this site for good references. As for all the apologists for the scam-artists who are "just Mexicans trying to make a living".. go jump in the lake. "You just dont understand the culture" is total BS... and posturing yourself as noble is even worse. In law, we call that a criminal co-conspirator. Living here as long as I have... I am possibly more Mexican than my bloodline shows. A crook is a crook no matter where they were born or their nationality.
