  1. What's wrong with you people? How many times do you need to hear this in a multitude of threads on here and in Jalisco Espanol,English media and News releases from SEMOV?? If you don't have a 2018 sticker, you are fair game for a ticket, maybe/maybe not, but NOT for 2019. IT IS NOT BEING DONE IN THE ENTIRE STATE OF JALISCO UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Have a big gulp of tequila, relax and think of some other non problem to drive yourself crazy with.

  5. Bless you! Grandma Nini had a small chicken n' egg business on the Galveston Highway in the 40's and 50's and we either grew, raised, or caught every single thing we ate... I thought we were rich because we had a cow, and Nini taught me to churn butter. My heart will always be in the garden....

  6. The thing I miss most here in Ajijic is good old home cooked fried chicken, Most of the people here will never know what a skillet of fried chicken tastes like. There is one or two places where the chicken is not too bad but not as good as home cooking. I hope you make gravy with the chicken leavings and home made biscuits. Now you've made me hungry I'll have to bring a skillet back with me next trip. I'll also bring one for Alpha1.

  7. SAT comprises of more than just the village, Chula Vista, Chula Vist Norte, Ciele Vista, Mirasol, El Parque, Birds of Paradise, El Dorado, etc are all in SAT. Perhaps there are more high priced houses in Ajijic, but not really by much. The taxes on all the village buildings do not amount to much and many in Ajijic are always boasting on how little they pay in property taxes. (All the while complaining that they are not getting the bang for their buck). I do not know the boundaries of Ajijic, but SAT is very large, beyond the Fire Department on the Liberanmento, it includes Tobalandia, the Laguna Mall, Walmart. The sign on the libramiento welcoming everyone to Ajijic is in SAT not Ajijic. It goes to the lake, and to Riberas on the east. So I believe it contributes to the coffers, perhaps not as much, but then it does not get the attention from the municipality that Ajijic does. BTW, it is my understanding that the taxes go to the state and then is allocated to Chapala. The VAT is probably as high or higher from SAT due to the mall and Walmart. The residents there are not demanding or whining, just patient. They are happy and content for the most part.

  8. Popcorn topic completely off course, so starting a cast iron thread here. Quote from raftrbr: "Glad you still have your seasoned skillets. I know they are great for cooking. I have a set of Griswold skillets but like other older people I've gone to lighter cookware. Big Mistake!" Cast iron skillets were of their time. Their resurgence is a sentimentality thing. So many companies now selling "hand crafted and forged" frypans, as if the original way was any different. And some are absolutely insanely expensive. I was happy to give up cooking on those sticky, hard to clean, super-heavy, over-smoky, ridiculous frypans, with unnecessary maintenance requirements. I keep one only now, for steaks and other items that require super-hot surfaces, or finishing in the oven. Sure, I've made fried eggs in them, but why bother going to all that trouble when a non-stick, heavy duty, aluminized for TFal pan does the job in seconds with no cleanup? Professional chefs in busy kitchens don't use cast iron any more than I do. There, I've said it. Feel free to hit me with a frypan.

  9. To get the ball rolling I will say two. Southern fried chicken and English/Irish pub quality fish and chips. I don't mean it cannot be found here. What I mean is it cannot be found in the quality one would desire.

  11. Do everybody a favour and stop promoting something that has not been approved by SEMOV. Your link is to a mechanic who like all the mechanics in Jalisco has not been issued the new computer. I have unequivocally and absolutely no non problems to keep me busy but it appears that you have the time to seek out and disperse erroneous information primarily directed at people that fall under P.T. Barnum's definition.

  12. At just about any of the materials yards you just ask and if they haven't got it on site they bring it in. Or a better way might be to ask a small business person who has access to that type of product but ordinarily doesn't stock it. I would talk with Elvis at the wood lumber shop on the lateral west of 5th de Feb just across from Waffle house. The lateral is south of the CArreterra and you get on it at Fonda restaurant heading west Elvis is down almost to the end. Open garage door with wood stacked inside. He brings in product from his family store in Joco. Runs this shop. Could probably get it cut for you. It is important to patronize the small businesses or they are going to go away fairly fast.

  13. Just another Utopian…. Lamenting about fried chicken that was last seen here when they killed the last unicorn. (if it was ever here) Indeed!!! Indeed!!! Indeed!!! Maybe it will return with the second coming along with real Irish pub fish and chips.

  15. A seasoned skillet does not stick. The problem is most people don't properly season a skillet and than wash it to clean it and there goes the seasoning. Taiwan has flooded the market with skillets and these cheapies have given a real skillet a bad name. Besides Griswold, Wagner also makes a good skillet and these are the two most sought after skillets in the USA. Some people collect skillets and a rare one like from Alabama Iron works can bring a little bit of cash. Skillets aren't as popular as they use to be and you can buy a Griswold for $20 to $50 but a good seasoned skillet is hard to come by.

  16. I still have my skillets but they are at my ranch in Oklahoma. I might bring you one before Christmas as I will be traveling back and forth. I usually sale my calfs in October.. As you know they are quite heavy so about one at a time or maybe two is about all I would be able to manage. I think everyone should have a good skillet so it would be my Christmas gift to you.

  17. Transitos will continue to look for the gullible expats, hoping to make them tremble at the thought of getting involved with authority, and completely unable to chat politely in Spanish in order to ask for the ticket. Smile, "please and thank you".....¡Nada mas! 😮

  18. It seems to me that the rumor, gossip, speculation, and fantasizing about emission testing changes hourly. The official stance remains the same, but some people can not accept it and so spread the rumor, gossip, etc.

  20. He has been whining since his arrival...1st it was LaBodega that was across the street from him long before he moved here and always had music that wasn't to his taste. He ranted a bitched about that for years without success. Then it was the new neighbor who built a new home that compromised his view of the lake. Now a continuing assault about Chapala and how splendid it is there compared to here..Never one to be satisfied...best to ignore a fool.

  21. Thank you for telling me what the conditions are where I live and you don’t. I should have realized you would know more about it than I do. I am sorry that you are so unhappy where you live but attacking people living in another town is not the answer to your unhappiness. You are a very fortunate man living a privileged life and yet your posts grow increasingly angry, bitter, and mean spirited. I am done.

  22. “That is different from disparaging a corrupt government that pretty much shafts the entire municipio outside of one town. Of course some of the residents of said town don't like to be reminded of this so they take refuge in personally attacking and misrepresenting anyone who has the temerity to do so. I'm sure the politicos responsible appreciate the support.“ You are so wrong, Mainecoons. The local government also shafts most of Chapala too. You don’t live here so you do not know that most of us also drive on pothole riddled roads, some days have no city water, and never know if our trash will be picked up or not. We complain about the money being spent on the Jesus bridge and fancying up the area around the malecon and roads in Centro for the tapitios and tourists while for us driving home is a game of Dodge the Potholes. But you have created your story and seem uninterested in whether it is accurate or not. That is the part that annoys me about your posts.
