  1. What an absolute load of unmitigated hogwash. CHECK YOUR FACTS. Allyn and Beverly Hunt bought that paper decades ago, both Americans. Sean is as reported, American, Michael British, both have Mexican status. Their interest is in serving the expat populace. Dale is a reporter and does not run the paper or decide what goes in it. If I want a biased viewpoint of the U.S. I'll read your stuff. Your denigration of the viewpoint of the entire country of Canada is shameful to me, and smacks of xenophobia.

  2. I was fine with the bra thing and protesting, bashing Walmart, but then it turned to the logic for the same, was that Mexico is just brim full of lawbreakers of every stripe and this was the logic for objecting to not being able to try on a bra, whether it be store policy or law. Personally, I don´t care about the OP topic but I do care when I think someone is bashing the country and the people I am a part of. You don´t go to someone´s house and start running down their family.

  3. You say i have no clue about the culture or the people. You dont even know me. You only know a few sentences that I posted. I know there are good and bad in every culture. Can you not be so quick to judge others and their motives based on a post? I feel that lacks mercy towards our fellow man. Its ok to say the French people are a wonderful people. Or Americans are a wonderful people. I realize there are bad people in every culture. That goes without saying.

  4. We are such a miserable country of miscreants, aren´t we. A lot of us (Mexicans) stand in line for hours at 5 different locations in Guadalajara to get or keep our driver´s license or stand in line to pay the predial every year. I don´t know hardly anyone who isn´t Mexican and I don´t have many friends or relatives that fit your descriptive mode. Many Mexican property owners don´t know what predial is???...…..hard to believe!!!! "they run them while the gringos stop"...…...Boy!!!....what did we do to deserve this angelic wave of immigration?

  5. Versatile thread. What started out as a "Perfectly good reason to bash Walmart, they suck" thread began morphing into a "Wow, there are quite a few foreigners living here who are ignorant about Mexicans, possibly predjudiced, and even rascist". Then it starts drifting back to "Why Walmart is uniquely terrible". All in under 10 posts! Impressive! 😄

  6. Sputnik you were not funny and you were the worse offender. We were talking about bras nothing else.. You are a gringo , like it or not and , Mexicans are people like all of us no pont tellng ust how wonderful they are. Some are good and some are bad.. that is realty all over the world.. You are being very paternalistic another way of being a racist and looking down on people and you do not even realize it. The bra thing is obviously a store policy and has nothng to do with the law..

  7. Oh please dont misunderstand my post. I absolutely LOVE this country and the MEXICAN mindset. The gringos might not appreciate this but I didnt explain I was just trying to be funny. I think all the rules in the U.S. are insane. That is why I love this country and the culture. Many run the red lights because it is early in the morning and no one is coming. I see NO problem with that!! If there is an accident, people take responsibility usually. It teaches people to own up to their mistakes. When there are many many laws in a country I feel that people tend to blame others. Then the law suits come. I also dont agree with property taxes. Paying them means you never really own your home. You are paying rent. In the U.S. we paid $4000 a year so at least here it is so much better. And NO, many gringos are FAR from angels in fact we are getting out of our current neighborhood and moving to Chapala where all are dear Mexican friends live because we are so tired of many of the gringos trying to change this area to be more like the U.S.with all its laws. Please forgive me for giving the total wrong impression!! I am a "guest" in your wonderful country, and am so sorry that in trying to be funny about trying on a bra i gave the wrong impression.

  10. Apology accepted! Just remember there are many, many Mexicans who read this board but don´t post because they don´t feel their command of the English language is good enough. I am one of the few exceptions except for a few naturalized citizens like bmh. Even more difficult is for them to understand your attempt at humor that comes across as flat as a pancake. Mexicans who have a fair comprehension of English love reading these boards to get a better understanding (sometimes curiosity driven) of all these foreigners who have relocated here and to learn about them. Paternalistic or "better than thou" attitude is not hard to come across to Mexicans from even what you consider trivial or trying to be funny. I speak up because i want the Mexicans to like foreigners and accept them and when I see that´s not happening, I raise the issue. My family is mostly bilingual with Spanish being their first and preferred language, and some follow this board, just to improve their understanding of things that identify the culture NOB, and a few say they wouldn´t be bothered with some of the garbage on here. True, that some people living in Chapala who travel locally between villages, do not bother to get driver´s license or maybe insurance because of the difficulty of going to Guad., or cost, or whatever, but just over the hill is a metro area with 6 or 7 million people and millions of vehicles from motos to camiones de doble remolques and they for the largest part by far are licensed properly. Too much of the foreign population´s idea of Mexico and Mexicans in this area is based on their perceptions gained from a small area of small pueblos, when less than an hour away is a huge thriving metropolis that more genuinely reflects the more realistic Mexico. It´s like comparing a small town in southern Missouri to New York, Washington DC. Chicago. LA, and on and on. Almost all Tapatios would laugh at you ideas about people without licenses, or knowing what predial is, or some of your other remarks. ! México es mucho mas que un calle residencial en Chapala o Ajijic ¡

  11. Lots and lots of scam artists. NEVER lend anyone money. Never, nope doesn´t matter if they have a great business idea, 99.9% of the people get scammed and never paid. You may be different and if not naive and you have some gift or ESP then day trading will still be more profitable.

  12. you are paternalistic when speaking about Mexicans and that s a form or racism..more positive than the ugly one but it grates on my nerves big time.. I am Frenc and when I go to the French forum I hear the same BS... oh the French are so happy they know how to enjoy life and on and on..it is all paternalistic and offensive. people are people no matter what their culture or nationality.. nothing is perfect in any culture. You may not realize it but all these generalizing statements are a sign that you hav no clue about the culture and its people .

  13. yes i knew they dont want you to try them on but we go to walmart so early and i said to myself I'm trying this on whether they like it or not. I grabbed 3 boxes, went to try them on cuz no one is ever attending that early in the morning. I did buy them. Yes that is crazy. Our boobs are just all different.....I dont think they will wrestle you to the ground and grab your bra!!! The law says stop at red lights, they run them while the gringos stop. The law says get a drivers license, we have many mexican friends who have never had one. The law says pay your property taxes, many of our mexican friends dont even know what that is. Now if they ignore those laws, trying on your bra to make sure it is a good fit is WAY more important that those laws......lol.....

  14. I have one brief question. If people with property don't pay taxes on it - particularly high value properties - where does the money come from to pay for roads, and bridges, and sewers, and police and fire protection... ? It seems the money fairies aren't doing a very good job of providing adequate funds to pay for all these services so I guess it will need to come down to paying property taxes.

  15. ...Add ice cubes to the cold water to really chill them down quickly. Then tap the eggs on both ends and all over. Gently roll the egg with your palm like using a rolling pin to loosen the shell. Peel under cold running water and about 90% of the time the shells almost fall off. The other 10%? Quien sabe.

  16. If one were to go by painting the persons in the french culture by pop discourse, one would come to the conclusion that they are all rude to everyone except their own of course-hmmm?

  17. More than 20 years ago when we first started scouting Mexico to live we were told that laws in Mexico are routinely ignored and broken. We were advised that if someone is not able to adapt to that mindset, culture or whatever you want to call it, living in Mexico would not be enjoyable. The passage of time has made that statement more and more true and relevant.

  19. RV it is irrelevant, The OK got the price for Uber and the cabs from the airport what somone paid to go from Guadaljara to Ajijic is irrelevant to the OP and makes sense as the town is further than the airport... The prices are fixed and not negociable so the OP wll not get cheated one way ot the other.

  20. I know this is a useless rant, but every once in a while topes really get to me. This rant was triggered by the appearance of new "metal bump" topes either side of the Pemex far west of Ajijic. As far as I can tell the only purpose is to try to get more customers into the station. I have questions: is any approval required from anyone too install topes in the middle of the night? If so, is there any way to find out who gave the approval? Is there any way to protest and request their removal? Now don't get me wrong, I have no problem with topes installed for safety reasons e.g in accident black spots such as La Canacinta. But it seems that many these days are purely for business enhancement purposes. That's it. End of rant. No solution expected.

  21. Dra. Claudia's sister is covering in her place and I used her when I had some follow-up treatment. If Dra. Claudia trusts her with her practice, then I trust her. When it comes to my eye sight, I would not trust any one else other than the folks at the Camacho clinic (including their retina specialist Dr. Silva). Without going into boring detail, I have no doubt that they saved my eyesight and gave me 20/20 & J1 (? or whatever you want to call it for clear vision at all distances).

  25. To say that French people are wonderfull is just as bad as saying they are rude to everyone or to say gringos are bad because they are trying to change Mexico..Mexico could use some good changes but it is what it is take it or leave itu. It is all stereotyping. .. Sure there are Americans and Canadians and others trying to change the culture but that does not mean all Americans or Canadians want to change the area.. French manners are different from Anglo-Saxon manners and that does not mean all French are rude and on and on.. No I do not have any patience for that kind of talk and it has nothing to do from the fact I am from France.. I have lived in the States longer than in France and I have lived in Mexico almost as long as I have lived in France so I really do not feel more like or dislike for one culture or another, they are 3 different cultures and "all the dear Mexicans" are not great jjust like all the" gringos" are not bad , to use a vocabulary that some people here seem to be in love with.

  29. No it does not, and you have to spray them with oil first (which makes them more difficult to clean, and the damn things make your eggs look weird, no matter how much you practice. You also have to make very sure the lids are on as tight as can be or the eggs puff out. I can't believe you prefer that, Justathought; so much extra effort. Eggs have their own cooking cover, lol.

  34. Yo1, I've been wondering why he posted here since the post appeared. This insurance thing doesn't exist in Chapala, but it definitely does in Mexico City and probably does in Cuernavaca. I paid it for the first time when I rented my second Mexico City apartment in February 2018. The cost of a year-long policy at that time was $6000.00 pesos over and above the cost of the deposit and the first month's rent. Mine was through a company called Previsión Legal, which anyone is welcome to look for on Google, just to see what it's all about.

  39. Yes, one would think so. Frankly I could care less about their highly biased op eds on U.S. politics and wish they would stick to things of local concern. For example why Ajijic and the rest of the municipio crumbles while there seems to be all sorts of improvements in Chapala. Or why the folks in GDL are enjoying serious enforcement of noise ordinances against these bars while they blast on locally. Or why Chapala seems quite happy to ignore height limits everywhere but Chapala. Or why Chapala gvernment is constantly in hot water with the legal system. And so on. If I want a biased viewpoint of the U.s. or its president from some Canadian (GDL Reporter is Canadian owned) there are countless sources for same. What is lacking is vigilant, skeptical and probing coverage of local affair. A little light and exposure might go a long way around here to get better government for the entire municipio.

  41. I have mild arthritis in my right hand from years of hand writing prescriptions and medical charts during the era preceding computer records and rare recurrence of left knee arthritis from an old injury. When I lived in Phoenix for 34 years it rarely bothered me except during the monsoon season a little but I used to make frequent trips to San Diego and by the third day there I felt miserable in all my involved joints plus others I wasn't aware of! Flying back in the plane in that dry environment made it all go away and it stayed away in the desert home climate. I've noticed the same thing here at Lake Chapala, arthritis is only mildly bothersome in the dry season and maybe a little more in the rainy season as I think the drier higher altitude mitigates the higher humidity here at least for me. If I go to the beach in the summer it's really bad and less really bad in the winter. I now spend the winter in the Caribbean on a mountain island at 1200-1800 feet most all of the time with higher altitude drier breezes and it's OK there too, similar to Chapala in the summer. I suspect an individual person's amount of joints involved with arthritis, the type, and length of history will impact his/her reaction at different altitudes and amounts of relative humidity so that my experience can easily be the opposite of others' stories noted above. Newcomers would likely have to come here and experience it for themselves. Before I moved here I spent a two week vacation here in all four seasons and since my arthritis was good here, I was good to move.

  44. When we lived in a town without a pizza place, I also doctored up frozen pizza (we didn't have a Costco, but did have a lot of frozen choices at Safeway). My 'trick' was to heat it on a well-seasoned gas grill (and by well seasoned, I mean rarely cleaned ). I still use my gas grill whenever I reheat leftover pizza.....it imparts a flavor similar to real pizza oven.
